  1. I'm going for some tickets later today, no promises, but I'll see if I can get one for you.

    Also! GOOD NEWS, EVERYBODY!

Another GameStop (and presumably, EB Games) event for October! Volcanion will be available for download via code. Unless you managed to get one from Japan earlier this year (or cheated), this is going to be your only legit chance to get one for Gen 6. It will likely be availiable at some point for Gen 7, but who knows for sure? Updating the front page.

  2. You would think so, but we're living in a world where one of the most popular TV shows in recent history is about people fucking everything up during a zombie apocalypse. Not to mention all those games where you have to kill or be killed survival games like Rust. Human beings fucking loooooove horror settings. Some are even willing to pay money for the closest thing they can get to  living out the real thing. Check out any of the zombie run companies. They hire dozens of people to be zombies, and then you get to run around pretending it's the real thing.

Also, this is a fantasy topic, so "no shit" doesn't apply. :<

  3. Back on topic: Not any of the Mega Man series. It's either robots blowing up the world, or a world where humans are long dead. Oh, spoilers.

Another bad one would be anything with "shock" in it's title. Underwater cities filled with murderous citizens, sky cities with racist nationalists (who are also murderous), some damn computer system in space (again, murderous)... the whole "something shock" thing is not people-friendly.

Tetris would be a terrible world, mainly because there isn't one. Not by human standards. A narrow chasm there is no escaping, but then it starts to fill up until it it reaches an invisible barrier at the top, crushing everything in it. Sometimes the ground that is building up falls away, but that is only a momentary reprieve from the sky falling and the earth raising. Fuck that.

  4. Oh, Surge killed them with his bare hands or with a knife. He states that his pokémon " zapped my enemies into paralysis " ... letting him finish them off. And since there is never any sign of any kind of weapons aside from medieval-level swords and shields.. I'm thinking strangulation or vivisection. Or he used a parachute cord as a garrote. 8O

Team Rocket's main modus operandi is to steal pokémon from non-trainers (who would be more capable of defending themselves) and then using them as either power sources (think about the Electrodes powering the Radio Transmitter in the secret base under Mahogany Town) or selling for money (the game center in Celedon City, for instance). Hell, their plan at Lake of Rage to force pathetic Magikarp into mighty Gyarados is so they can catch them for profit.

Turns out Team Rocket is less mafia and more unethical business.

But hey, it's just a theory. A game-specific, backed up with known instances and easily verifiable facts, based upon quick research to fill in any gaps from personal memory, but still accurate, theory.

    Thanks for reading!

Pokemon would be a pretty decent choice.  It's based on the modern day, with internet and all, just with pokemon.  On the other hand, while there don't appear to be any conventional weapons, so no fear of mass shootings or bombings per se, some pokemon have some awfully destructive attacks.  Unleash a Hyper Beam or even a Surf in a crowded area and you'd have a lot of deaths on your hands, and there doesn't appear to be any kind of regulation.  It must be very Wild West behind the scenes, with the "good guy with a gun" mentality being the default.

Not really. Even in the games, there are very few instances of pokémon on human violence. The only one I can think of is Lance ordering his Dragonite to use Hyper Beam on a Team Rocket Grunt in Mahogany Town. Even then, the Grunt just flies back a bit, and you talk to him afterwards. No injury.

It seems that Pokémon attacks are largely ineffective against non-pokémon targets, including buildings, vehicles and machines. If you're thinking about all those times Pikachu used Iron Tail on a Team Rocket robot and it exploded, sending Jesse and James (and Meowth, that right!) blasting off again, I'd like to remind you that this thread is about video game worlds, not anime/cartoon ones. The cartoon may be based upon the games, but they don't share the same physics or rules as the games.

So, therefore, it would actually be one of the safest video game worlds there is. Oh, what? Those pokédex entries about pokémon throwing buses over mountains and eating lava and eating people's minds? Dex entries are written by ten year old children that dropped out of school!

  6. So, more info on z-moves.

    http://www.pokemon-sunmoon.com/en-us/z-moves/

So it seems to be a matter of having a Fire type move on a pokémon holding a Fire-type Z-Crystal. I guess it will act like a fifth move slot, but only accessible when in battle and with the item being held.

Also, they're selling a physical version of the Z-Ring that lights up, plays sound effects and vibrates when you play Sun and Moon when wearing it. So.. yeah. Crazy gen so far.

  7. I'm looking at the video and I'm saying "what da fuuuuuck?" at everything.

Fire types becoming Ice types? Ground types becoming Ice types? AM I TAKING CRAZY PILLS!?

That dancing bird has four different forms and types, and it's all about DANCING!

A mini Majora's moon that turns into one of those star candies from Mario Galaxy.

The yellow weasel thing from last month now evolves into Donald Trump. MAKE ALOLA GREAT BALLS AGAIN. (Yeah, I know it's supposed to look like an old fashioned private detective, but that hair looks more like Trump's. You can't deny it!)

Mudbray is fucking adorable. Will not evolve.

It seems the small sections where you got to ride a Ryhorn in XY ae really expanded upon, as you can now fly a Charizard and ride a Sharpedo. I doubt this means HMs are gone, but are used for very specific points in the game.

So, there seems to be a non-linear system for facing "island challenges"... so does that mean no more gyms in the traditional sense? I like the idea of non-linear progression, but removing gyms seems contrary to the series and what they have stated before with Sun and Moon.

"Totem" pokémon seems to be an attempt to have a difficulty spike, where you face a more traditional "boss" type battle. Could be good. We'll see.

I'm not impressed with "z-moves". It's like Mega Evolving... but not as flashy and doesn't give pokémon new forms. (side note, I am hoping that they ditch Mega Evolving and just make all the Mega forms new evolutions. Most of the pokémon that got them needed proper evos in the first place, not temp ones. Make it happen, Game Freak!) And by the video, it seems to only be for the starters and a Pikachu... so, it's restricted to just four pokémon? Can others use it? It is based upon the move a pokémon has, or can it be used by any pokémon of that type?

  8. I don't know... being a NPC could be good. No one expects you to stop the evil wizard when you're just selling apples from a cart.

Or restarting a reactor to get the defense shields up before the aliens attack. Nope, just sweeping this corridor.

Depending on the game, it might be the safest situation there is. The world can't end if the hero doesn't start the game...

Damn it! Now I'm torn between blowing up the world and waiting for someone else to do it!

  9. Depends. Am I visiting as a NPC or as a player?

That makes a big difference. For example, if I chose Pandora from the Borderlands series... I'm utterly fucked if I'm a NPC. In that game world, if it isn't the Skags/Spider Ants/other wildlife, it's the psychos that wear your face during their pizza parties (fun fact: 72% of Pandoran pizzas are also made from someone's face). If it ain't the psychos, it's the killer Hyperion Loader bots with rocket launchers for arms. And even if you manage to avoid all of those things, you still have all those fucking Vault Hunters (the players) gunning every thing down the instant they think it can drop loot.

Now, as a player (Vault Hunter), I would be nigh unstoppable. I get infinite respawns, can buy guns, shields, grenades and ammo all I want, or just blow up a herd of innocent animals until something drops a gun I like. If I want to go somewhere, I have access to planet-wide teleportation (Fast Travel stations). If I feel like just relaxing, I'm the only person of the planet that can play the slot machines in the various bars around the world. If don't want to do any of that, I still get the option to actually leave a town by walking out the front gate, unlike all the NPCs who have to stay there, behind the desk or on the road, forever. Never moving, never leaving, never doing anything.

    See? The difference is important.

  10. Well, it's one of the better synth orchestral attempts. It doesn't sound overly fake and there's enough variation in the instruments that it doesn't suffer from sounding like a midi file.

But it's also not really breaking away from the original composition much. It's well done, but it's not exactly breaking any new ground. What is this version doing that the other orchestral versions have done? What separates it?

I'm not shitting on your effort here, I'm just thinking you need to do something different that makes it stands out.

  11. For anyone that is slightly interested, I found some videos about building and fighting. This one seems fairly positive, specifically the designing, building and using of a craft in a game. Some mild swearing, so maybe NSFW.

Note that I am not a player of this game, nor am I affiliated with the developers. I just thought the video was kind of interesting.

I like the block by block design/build aspect, but what I really want to see more of these days in single-player campaigns. It seems everyone is ditching that in favor of multiplayer combat only games. Oh well.

  12. When you go to the remix's page, and try to join the thread by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page, you get this message:

With the error code " Error code: 2F173/H".

Of course, by the time someone reads this, it will have fixed itself because that's how things work for me. I point it out, it starts waorking fine whenever somone else looks at it, and then I look like I'm making things up. Thanks, internet.
