  1. Sorry GT, I'm pretty sure thats not NWG. The only comparison I see is that he has a vaguely similar moustache. The NWG is without a doubt not spanish or hispanic; which is just what this guy looks like.
  2. So I downloaded the new "Album" (its not really meant to be an album in the normal context) done by NIN after they got out of a bunch of contracts with their label, apparently. I'm not sure what to think of it truthfully; it seems like a lot of ideas for full-blown songs mixed together. I haven't listened to the whole thing straight through yet, which I'm told is where the real feeling comes from. It actually sounds like Trent Reznor's answer to BT's TBU with a bit more of an Amon Tobin's Foley Room feel thrown in. Coming from someone who really enjoyed With Teeth, this is coming from a pretty different place. I really like quite a few of the single songs, but a lot of them don't really seem to go anywhere. For instance "34 Ghosts IV" starts out with an awesome buildup that gets completely taken-out for a piano and distorted pad bleh feel for the rest of the 5 and a half minutes. It just feels like they just kinda fucked around and tried to put it all together for an art-y project. What are your thoughts?
  3. His reviews are still awesome-tastic. I haven't played Burnout Paradise, but I agree that having races based on trying to read a tiny little pixel-map while flying down and around curves at 150 mph is a tad on the retarded side. I don't really see why hes bashing the game for all the crashes though... thats kind of the whole point of the game. However, I'm only too familiar with the crash-ten-feet-before-the-finish-line-to-watch-your-first-place-go-to-5th-place poopcannon that mires Burnout 3. "Catch-up" in racing games is quite shitty. Anywho... Awesome review as always. I've re-watched all of his reviews probably more than is healthy while I'm at work and I still can't find them to get old.
  4. Damn dude, you my sexy Swedish hero. this is an incredibly enjoyable track with some pretty awesome sounds that mesh really well together. I really like that ending effect of the song kind of slowing to a stop. Just all-around a dern sexy song and really well-produced.
  5. This is so incredibly awesome. I can't put how much I love this mix into words. It has such an amazing feel to it and feels like it should be in some incredibly well-done Tim Burton movie; which, from the sound of it would be a Grim Fandango movie. One of my favorite tracks form mazedude and possibly on the site. Very amazing production as well.
  6. I can't say its my favorite style, but the processing and mastering are incredibly well-done. I especially like the bass drum in that little break in the middle. I can see that some people can think its a bit abrasive, but to each their own; I like it quite a bit though it is relatively repetitive. Good work and don't believe the haters, platonist
  7. I just wanted to mention that it doesn't really matter if you make money at it; you should still pay for it if you use it. The try-before-you-buy idea is a great one that i frequently enjoy the use of, but if only the people who made money with the programs paid for them the industry would be financially screwed. Most of the people using the software are hobbyists, like 95% of the users on here; sure the companies like to highlight the fact that pros use their software, but thats hardly their core demographic as far as sales go.
  8. Truthfully, I have only illegally pirated one piece of software: the Waves Diamond bundle, but I felt so bad about it since I absolutely LOVE the product and use it all the time that i bought one of their lower-end bundles (cuz I don't have the 2 grand needed to pay for the diamond bundle). Well, I had such a horribly shitty time getting it to install properly and not fuck up a bunch of stuff in the process that I felt that using the cracked version was worth the 700 bucks i spent. So yes, I am currently using a cracked version of the program i bought because it runs better... Go figure. However, the people that are using all of the highest end products on the market that haven't paid for any of it should go suck some poo. I have literally spent thousands of dollars for all of my software and hardware and have all of the boxes on my shelf as trophies of said monetary suicide. Truthfully, I think thats part of the experience of music; working your way up from shitty software to better and better pieces of musical equipment to the point where you can do anything you want after years of wading through the stuff you've bought to help you out.[/self-righteous rant] All-in-all, pirating stuff isn't the way to go if you want to establish yourself as a producer in my humble opinion.
  9. I like the bassline a LOT, very grungy and sexy low-ends. Very minimal arrangement, I would add a bit more to it like pads and the like, but I tend to be a bit more... maximal? in my arrangements, which can be super annoying to master. I would suggest compressing the drums a bit more to make them sound a bit more heavy to go with the bassline. I may also suggest layering your synths a bit to make them stand out. Otherwise, this is pretty fun to listen to and should pass once its filled out a bit more.
  10. heh, yeah, this is VERY rough so far. I only just started playing around with the various main themes in the song and this is by no means indicative of the arrangement and/or final mix-ness. As for the house comment; Its kinda gonna be a bit more house oriented than I had first done and possibly a bit more breaks/house later on. I'm really shooting for a Junkie XL in "Today" "Mushroom" and "More" vibe with a bit of a "Cascade" (from Hybrid of course) atmosphere to it. So basically, i'm gonna shoot for around 5-6 minutes in length with a bit more atmosphere and more synths and effects and much more fleshed-out guitars. I only spent about 3 hours from start to finish on that little wip (which is astoundingly quick for me, especially since my comp loves to lock-up on me now), so there is definitely more to come on it. Thanks for the feedback; much appreciated and definitely needed What do you think of the guitars? too chromatic? or too inaudible?
  11. I have to say; I'm really not into Happy Hardcore music and I had this playing on repeat for about half an hour yesterday while surfing the web. Pretty dern good, I'd say.
  12. UPDATED! completely new and different, please leave feedback!!!
  13. This is freaking awesome! Very chill and ambient, yet feels very much like a MarioKart song. The only little quibble I have with it is that the drums kind of sound distant and some of the other pieces feel a bit too background-y even though they're supposed to be foreground-y. Not a big deal in the slightest; I'm just nitpicking. I definitely think this will get passed as-is and will probably be one of my favorite ReMixes for just lounging to.
  14. This is pretty dern awesome! I like the solo female vocals and that beginning lil distorted perc bit at the very beginning of the break out is quite awesome. Very good feel overall, but I would say that adding a bit more punch to the percussion would help it feel more powerful. Otherwise, i can't think of anything else I would fix though. Good schtuff.
  15. OK, so I've completely re-done it into a more rock-like song. It's a bit reminiscent of Junkie XL's "Today", but mostly rock at the moment. What I have is very rough as far a arrangement, but the sounds are gonna be pretty close to what I'm shooting for with a bit more synthesizers added on. Any comments for arrangement and even mastering are much appreciated! www.myspace.com/hybound
  16. You can use an LFO sent to a pitchbend and filter freq. with a sawtooth waveform. I've done it a few times before for the sound Hybrid uses in stuff like Kill City and TFWA (VIP edit) or (Rolling Thunder edit).
  17. I really like this a lot. Definitely feels a lot like old Prodigy and Crystal Method shtuff, which is quite the compliment. Make it longer dammit!
  18. This is pretty awesome. I love chiptunes and this captures the feel of old NES stuff and seems like it would fit well with an airship theme from one of the old-school RPGs incredibly well. Overall, fun stuff and a great kick back to the nostalgic times.
  19. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPS! I accidentally clicked on buy downloads over at soundclick, lemme just go change that, but the actual song can be downloaded over at myspace as well; i guess only if you have an account there though. It'll also be a free download somewhere else in the near future...
  20. This is some sexy shtuff. It is definitely reminiscent(grrr, sp) of Nobuo Uematsu's kind of battle theme styles and some of his other theme's styles. Very good stuff, and i think the instrumentation is fine for an OST of a sprite-based game; personally, i think it would be weird to hear a very well-done sweeping score alongside crappy sprite characters in sprite forests outside of a sprite town named spritesville. Thats just me though.
  21. ...just try it... but it just completely thrashes the signal and leaves it as basically pink/white noise based on what the source is. I don't think I've ever used the small distortion unit for anything other than making a layered sound a little different so it doesn't phase-out the original.
  22. Thanks for the comments, i guess you have to be logged in to myspace to download it... Sorry about that.
  23. They only stole the registration book... Like, I'm glad they didn't steal more, but its kinda creepy that that is all they took. There was a nice jacket, CDs where they would have brought there head in to get the book, a turntable (pretty ghetto, but still) and plenty of other stuff in my messy car that they could have taken. WTF? Anyone know why they would do that?
  24. I've decided, after listening to this song a LOT, that i want to re-master it. If anyone has any advice, it would be very much appreciated.
  25. I have the problem where the audio cuts out. I'm actually pretty sure that its the RAM load on the computer. It only happens to me if there is a lot of STREAMED audio, not necessarily the CPU load (from synths and such). If that isn't the problem, then someone could definitely save me a LOT of time and effort by telling me what is wrong.
