  1. Finished? No. Awesome? Yes. More? DUH! Although I have to listen to this on low volume since people are sleeping in the house, this sounds awesome! I honestly don't see why you wouldn't want to make this submitable. It would go great with the rest o' the metal mixes here. But I'll download it whether or not you submit it, lol.
  2. Awesome! Lovin' it, dude. Lookin' forward to the next one (there will be a next one, right? There had better be!).
  3. Only a few hours old!? O.o Holy crap... Dude. Awesome. Totally not familiar with the source tunes, but thats not unusual. Still awesome. Keep it up!
  4. Heh, I hear ya. Not a big fan of it myself, lol. Upon further listening I would say, yeah, basic as in the tones, pitches, n' whatnot. But that is the style. My ears have just been spoiled by non-chiptune style music, lol. And since it is designed with games in mind, it needs to be basic but memorable. I think you've accomplished that. I guess my comments would be more for if you were going for a non-looping song... erm... like, say, Norrin Radd style chip-tune songs...
  5. Listened to the one you posted as your fav. Pretty interesting. Is it for a game, of a game track, or just Blank 'cause you can't think of a name just yet? Also listening to your Ultimate Final Boss Music (does the title really have to be yelling at me?). Also interesting. The galloping bass works well for a boss theme. They seem very short and very... I dunno... basic. Mostly just short. But that may be what you are wanting to go for, which is fine. I just kinda think you could expand on these more. Work in more variations, a solo or two; that kinda thing. But like I said, you may be going for the short, loopable track like one in a video game, in which case, you've done a pretty good job. EDIT: Also, you may want to exercise some patience when posting here, esspecially in the WIP:Other section. Believe you me, it can sometimes take a while to get responses. Had a post that went 10 days (and a title change, lol) before getting a reply. Maybe changing to a more descriptive title will draw more attention to your music.
  6. I take it you're refering to the caffiene molecule? Not in large enough quantities for it to have that effect, no, lol.
  7. I'm likin' this thread. Some cool artwork. I do a bit of art every once in a while. Took art throughout highschool (instead of learning to drive... *palmface*). My last project for my last art class in highschool. Don't quite remember the specifics of the project, but it had something to do with picking your favorite art style and tying in little bits about yourself. I chose surrealism/comic book style.
  8. Got that right, XD... but yeah, most of it is just to clarify or comment on what someone has suggested. Other than that, I figure its good to acknowledge people's contributions. Maybe I just spend way too much time in the customer service field, lol. Lol, I'm workin' on it. Odd. I do have a C-Bass in there as well as some lower brass parts, but I guess its not being heard. I'll play around with the EQ on it and see what I can do about it. Considering I'm working on this as an OCR submission, being nit-picky is good. The judges will go over it with a fine toothed comb. Anyway, thanks, jabond. PS, no need to go to your Reverbnation page; Abbadon now resides on my iPod.
  9. Unfortunately the vst I'm using does not allow automation of the vibrato Otherwise, I totally understand what you're getting at. Mayhaps slight variance in the pitch and volume will attain said effect? Hmmm. Something to test. So should I back off on the Cello a little? I wanted something with the punch of a brass instrument (or a distorted guitar, lol) and I figured the cello was my best option. But when I switched out the cornet for the cello, it wasn't loud enough, to I kinda EQ'd it forward a bit. Maybe a little too forward? lol. O.o don't listen to real orchestral, lol. I did that today and now my stuff seems pithy in comparison, lol. Kinda wish I had a real orchestra at my disposal, lol. That'd be nice. The legato bit is good to know. Something to listen for on my next round of editing. As for the brass ensemble (yeah, just a generic brass ensemble setting within the vst): a little off you say? Hmm... I'll give it a listen again, esspecially at that part, and see if there's something I can do about that. Thanks for the comments, SoulinEther!
  10. New version is uploaded and ready for listenin'. Hope I've made some improvements.
  11. So... awesome... *face melt* The kick is coming along nicely. Definitely more audible than it used to be, a lot more remenicient of Into Eternity (a good thing in my books, and I think close to the sound you're trying to go for as far as the kick drum is concerned). Mayhaps another Mod-Review is in order?
  12. Yes, this is the kind of feedback I was hoping for Thank you. Thanks.
  13. What? Overdone theme? Crappy composition? Not original enough? Too complex guitar parts? Unrealistic guitar parts? Or is it just 'cause its a midi and doesn't have super fantastic awesome sound quality?
  14. Pretty cool. Different that most of the melodeath I listen to (granted that only really spans In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Quo Vadis, and one Soilwork song) but thats not a bad thing. Its kinda your own sound, which is good! I gotta say, there are definately influences from other music genres (metalcore i think, which in itself is tied to melodeath) in there too, which, again, is not a bad thing. I like it. And, btw; dang Cyril! Talk about versatile. Clean vocals, pantera style, screams, and growls. I'm impressed. Good job!
  15. Point taken. But alas the B section (where the cornet kicks in) kinda needs that umph of a brass instrument, otherwise it just sounds horrible. I'm not sure what to do with it at the moment. I may just have to rewrite the entire section... Hmmm... thats odd. The violins are panned to the left and the violas to the right, along with the bassier strings. I tweaked the 'Stereo Enhancer' to further distinguish the panning. Hope that helps. Problem I'd face with this is if I add the vibrato to, say, the violins, it'd affect the violins throughout the song... and with this particular vst I can't automate the vibrato . I am, however working with the velocities to give the song more personality, so to speak. I just hope it works... Thanks.
  16. Lol, I think its just the fact that I'm not a fan of the thrash metal style vocals. Truthfully prefer the clean vocals that're used in a lot of power metal or the Rob Halford style... or the death growls. Yeah, I'm weird, lol.
  17. Just popping in to say I'm still keeping tabs on this, even if I don't post. At this point the tips and suggestions have gone way beyond my area of expertise (which is to say, absolutely nothing, cause I'm a n00b, lol). Anyway, keep up the awesome work, jabond, and I look forward to the next update.
  18. I think death growls might fit this better... not a big fan o' that style vocals. Prefer Cyril's vocals on the Mega Man mix he did for DoD. Someone should totally send Bruce an email, lol. Kidding, obviously, but I don't think the operatic style would fit well with this kind of metal. Much more aggressive than Iron Maiden and his solo work. Brandon, you def need to go for the growls.
  19. First off, thank you Emunator. Yeah, it is by no means complete and I fully intend on working on it more. I just needed some feedback to get me started in the right direction. Exposed... erm. My ignorance is sometimes embarrasing, but how do you mean? And how would I go about fixing this problem. Bummer. I kinda thought it sounded cool. Shows you how much I know. So the course of action I should take on this is... new brass vst/soundfont? new instrument? Would EQing help with this, or is it just an unrealistic sounding cornet (which is the instrument it's supposed to be, lol)? Oh... I'm... not sure what do do about this. Understandable. I'm guessing you're refering in part to the intro. I know in a real orchestral setting where you have a dozen or more strings all playing at once you can have the players trade off reestablishing a prolonged note... I'm not sure how well that'll work in a sequenced setting, but I'll work on it. Obviously mixers like Nutritious and Random Hero are able to pull it off, so its not impossible, lol. --- Thanks jabond Glad you like it. But... never played FF9? This must be remedied! --- Her mix is pretty awesome. Again, forgive my ignorance, but which parts should sound more legato (smooth and connected; without breaks between the successive tones). I've included the definition for the sake of clarifying that I have the correct understanding of the word. Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHsXNkI1rfA --- To everyone, my thanks and appreciation.
  20. Man... I wish I could contribute to this. This is gonna be epic! Looking forward to this!
  21. Nice! Sounding very symphonic power metal at the beginning there with the strings and the galloping riff. Very cool. Hope you continue with that. Looking forward to more!
  22. Lol! Silver Surfer! Totally gonna check this out.
  23. I'm with Archangel on this. Really enjoyed Brandon's vocals on "Monkeys Disarm Their Kremlings." Can't wait to hear what he has in store for this.
  24. Okay. It's me again. So apparently MIDIs are a big no-no here, eh? Oh well. I was hoping for some feedback on that. So about this remix. This is an orchestral remix of one of my favorite themes from Final Fantasy IX, and maybe one of my all time favorite game themes. When I first found OCRemix.org, this theme, plus the Legend of Zelda Theme and Gerudo Valley, was what I first looked for, and I think I downloaded every remix of the theme at the time. Okay, so, this remix is orchestral, and very much influenced by soundtracks like Star Trek, and Star Wars, and the like. Its also a bit of a test of an orchestral VST which I recently got my hands on. So far I'm liking it. If 'Ride of the Hero' gets a No (resub) then I might just redo it with this VST. Any suggestions, constructive critisisms, and comments are welcome. Stuff I'd Like to Do: - On the last runthrough of the 'chorus' (B section of the source?) have a choir voice (or a series of real recorded voices) go along with the melody. Maybe a future collab post... - er... Thats it really. As always, Enjoy! Version 4 ---------- - Once again attempted to humanize the instruments a little more - Changed out the intro with something... simpler... Crap, imo, but I don't know what else to do - Changed the outro - Added more reverb - Altered the harp section to be more... harpish... - Tried to make the solo cello suck less - Altered the final iteration of the second half of the original tune Version 3 ---------- - Instead of using the Solo Cello Vibrato, I changed it to plain-ol' Solo Cello, and manually set the vibrato to kick in after a certain amount of time. I'm hoping this at least makes it sound better than before, although it will never compare to a real Cello. - Changed up a few parts (hope you hear 'em. Let me know what you think) - Tweaked the Eq some more. Hope it helps. Version 2 ---------- - Tried to make it less mechanical (emphasis on 'tried'... not sure if I succeeded) \- Tried to give some parts a more ebb and flow feel - replaced the corny cornet with a solo cello and Eq'd it forward more cause it wasn't very audible - tried to make the strings less exposed - Added some vibrato to the strings. hope it helps. note: wasn't sure where (besides the intro) the strings were too drawn out, and as far as the intro goes... I haven't the foggiest how to make it more realistic. *shrug* Any tips or suggestions on that front would be appreciated.
