  1. Says the guy who didn't mention goat
  2. http://www.egmnow.com/press1.html So, after nearly twenty years, EGM was unceremoniously canned out of the blue. The "final" issue, February 2009, still has yet to be released via PDF as it was promised to be by James Mielke back in January. Everyone thought the magazine was dead and gone. Think again. Steve Harris has made a deal with Ziff Davis to re-acquire the trademarks and publishing rights. You remember Harris. The one who created EGM back in '89? He's got his magazine back, and has apparently decided to bring the magazine back some time in the second half of this year. There are plans to make an announcement at E3. For a bit more info, read Mielke's blog post here. Is this just a joke? Will it fall through? I don't know. But the idea of EGM being back on the shelves does put a smile on my face.
  3. Why would I use a browser that plays my gifs too slowly (last time I checked, both use a down throttling setup like IE does)? Besides, it has something to do with FireFox 3. Various interactive things simply don't work, like the play buttons on that site, or the newer interactive radar on weather.com. They work fine on the final versions of FireFox 2, so I just downgraded.
  4. Shame I can't hear the comparisons I'm not familiar with. Even with Adblock disabled, and NoScript allowing everything, not one music link works.
  5. Duke Nukem Forever No, that's not a typo.
  6. Did you ever get over the mental scars made by all the comparisons to the Dell guy?
  7. I just got done trying a few things. Here's what I did. I made a bin/cue file of my MechWarrior 2 disc, and saved it to my desktop. I then mounted the cue file in Alcohol 52% (which has a free version here), and ran the DOS install. For me, the virtual drive is drive F, and in DOSBox, I have it mounted as N (for reasons I explained earlier). So, I fired up DOSBox, changed the drive letter to N, and typed "install". This brings up the DOS v1.1 for Mech2 on my disc. I did a full install (very important), and then went to the page on Vogons that I linked to earlier. I grabbed the crack for the two executables from the link on that page, and pasted them over the original executable files. Once that was done, I unmounted the disc image, started up the game, and everything's peachy keen. If you have the DOS v1.0 of Mech2, you need to upgrade it to v1.1. There's a link to the patch on that Vogons page that has the cracks (yes, the links all still work). Install the patch (I believe it must be run from within the Mech2 folder), and then paste the two cracked executables over the original ones. It has to be v1.1 of the DOS game for Mech2 to run in DOSBox. Even if you have a cracked version, get those executables from the Vogos page, and paste them in anyway. This way, you're sure to have the executables that run fine in DOSBox. So my suggestion is, delete the current Mech2 folder, to do a fresh full install of your game through DOSBox, make sure it's v1.1, and use those two cracked files from the Vogons page.
  8. Try changing what you're calling the CD-Rom in DOSBox. I've had issues with CD-Roms being mounted as "E". Instead, mount your CD-Rom as a higher letter. As an example, my CD-Rom drive's letter is "F", so in DOSBox I have... mount n f:\ -t cdrom "N" is what DOSBox will think the drive letter is, while "F" is what my drive's letter actually is. See if that helps.
  9. Several questions come to mind... - Did you mount the CD-Rom you're using in DOSBox? - Which version of MechWarrior 2 are you using (v1.0 or v1.1)? - Did you follow this guide after it was installed?
  10. Greetings newcomers. Welcome to OCR. Due to the recent outbreak of various illnesses, and to keep in good standings with the health department, we've begun screening all new OCRians. If you'll kindly form a line right over there by that door, our resident doctor will check for any viruses, prostate problems, hernias, lumps in your testicles and/or breasts, yeast infections, runny ears, watery noses, happy feet, idle hands, wandering eyes, drifting minds, and other assorted health and/or mental issues. Enjoy your stay!
  11. Well, that was a monumental waste of six-and-a-half hours. I get to "loading textures", and the XRay Engine tells me a crash happened. No settings changes fixes this, and I can't find anything on Gametap or the Web that explains what happened and how to fix it. THANKS GAMETAP!
  12. A much needed bump for my guide. Don't want this dropping off.
  13. Should this actually be real, then allow me to say this once again... To those who wish to make a ROM hack, or fan game, or what have you, of a popular game with a history of C&D orders... KEEP THE PROJECT TO YOURSELF. Don't post everywhere that you're doing it, don't put out trailers advertising it, and don't make a website for it. That's how these projects get found, and shut down. Keep it to yourself until it's done, THEN release it and pimp it. How many times is something like this going to happen before people figure this out?
  14. You know, I've never been one to talk about what happened with games like Doom 3 and Half-life 2, but I'm hoping this game gets a similar "leak" at some point.
  15. Thunder Force IV- Genesis synth-Metal baby. Thunder Force V- The great synth-Metal continues on the Sega Saturn. Lords of Thunder- A great rock soundtrack on the Sega CD. Android Assault- Not as heavy as the LoT soundtrack, but it's still a good guitar-driven selection (Sega CD again). DoDonPachi- Very nice rock tunes (Sega Saturn). Broken Thunder: Project Thunder Force VI- No, not the God-awful PC "fan" game, but the album. It would have been the soundtrack to Thunder Force VI had Techno Soft not died off, and it's quite good. Gate of Thunder- Another soundtrack that's not heavy, but it's still good guitar driven stuff from the PC Engine/TG-16. Stellar Fire- Not the best Sega CD game out there, but it has great soundtrack. The Amazing Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin- A surprisingly nice rock soundtrack that frankly hits you out of nowhere given the game, and it's done in an 80s style.
  16. http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/avidivx.html Try any of the stuff on there yet?
  17. Well, I didn't see myself because the game wouldn't run for me back then. I eventually just gave up and deleted it, so I've never known if I was in there or not.
