Nope. If there's a headphone jack, you only need one cord. But the headphone port is amped, so make sure the volume is down-ish so you don't blow anything up [shouldn't really be a problem].

He's not using any program. Tragic Hero: You'll want to find a 1/4" audio cable and an adapter for the 1/8" line-in jack on the back of your computer, or a cord that goes from a 1/4" to 1/8" jack, but the 1/4" to 1/4" is much more common [and cheaper]. You'll also need a means to record. Audacity is freeware: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ I think Usa used a PSR-3000, but he upgraded recently to this Tyros 2 thing: http://aux.music.yamaha.com/tyros2

What you're suggesting is like a co-op Megaman game with a character and level editor? You're still delving too deep I think. The idea is already much more complicated than the game we were working on before. Even USB 1.1 is more than enough bandwidth and latency for a single MIDI device, but yeah, the PCI card is optimal because you'd also be getting [variably good] audio inputs. I think the Audiophile 2496 has midi ports on it, but I can't think of anything else under $100 that does. There are also super-fancy USB2/Firewire I/O boxes that have midi on them, like the RME Multiface II. p.s. It is now a historically-based dating game. Sort of. You wouldn't know the two other people working on it with me (`･ω･´)
