  1. That's all the Queenslanders need after the floods! Yeah, it's been all over the news.
  2. I know what you mean man Thing is, I'm moving on my own... as far as I can gather, Norway is pretty decent when it comes to immigration... it's the asylum seekers etc that are causing quite the stir over there at the moment. It's the same here in Australia at this point in time. I plan on contacting the embassy here to make sure I've got all my info right; I want to know exactly what it'll take for me to be allowed to move. Yeah, it's a complicated process, but I've got my heart and mind completely set on it. I'll do whatever I have to. Besides, I'm a nice guy.. who could say no? Haha
  3. I'm definitely gonna check out other places, but anywhere near Oslo is fair game for me... and with the alcohol thing... you haven't been to an Australian pub... wow. Especially out here just west of Sydney where I am. Australians are probably the most disgusting when drunk. Grog is cheap, prevalent, and a vast majority can't seem to function at a social gathering without it. I used to be a big night-clubber when I was younger, but I think I'm way past that point in my life haha, so the alcohol won't be an issue for me. I've still got a lot of research to do, and a fair bit of time to do it Thanks for the advice!!!
  4. Yeah, I've done a lot of price comparison with living in Sydney... Olso especially, is not too much higher than Sydney. I realize alcohol is quite dear, but I don't mind. That's why I've given myself a 2 year deadline... to save as much money as I can!!! I'll need it haha
  5. Awesome! Lotsa great responses... I'll definitely hit ya'll up!!! I picked Norway pretty much because all my major musical influences hail from there, and I find I hear a lot of it in my own stuff I'm doing now. I figure if I can make it any place, then Norway is the go. It's good that Sweden is so close too though... I'm in Australia, so I'm used to traveling hundreds upon hundreds of kilometers to visit people. My uncle lives over 700km away from me at the moment, so it's not unusual for us to hop in a car and take off. That and the fact that I've always felt something for the country... dunno what it is in me, but it's there
  6. Yup. In a couple of years, I plan on totally relocating to the complete and utter opposite end of the globe. SCARY The reason I'm bringing this up here, is because I would really like to get in touch with any of you who live there. I plan on moving to Oslo, so it would be awesome to stay in communications with someone who could tell me what it's like there, customs, all those kinds of things. I've done a LOT of research in the last few days (pretty much non-stop), but nothing beats a human to talk to about it. I've even just started a 'Teach Yourself Norwegian' CD course thingy, and I plan on taking lessons too. This will help in giving me the best chance of finding work when I do eventually get there, as well as allowing me a broader range of courses to study- I'm kinda hoping to be able to go the Norwegian Acadamy of Music. I'd really like to stay in touch until my eventual move. I have no friends or family there; no support network at all, and any avenues I can take that will make the move that much easier, such as just even one acquaintance, I would appreciate very much. The reason I am dead-set on this move, is that I want a complete fresh start for myself, and I feel that if anywhere in the world my music could even be successful and/or noticed, it'd be in Scandinavia. So any of you out there who could help me out with this, I'll be eternally grateful for the help :D
  7. Agreed. When I first got wind of the 'rear touch panel', it sounded like a stupid idea, and I really couldn't see any real use for it. And after seeing that vid earlier, I'm even less hot on it. It is, literally pointless. That crawling rope action is something that could very well be done (and has been done since the dawn of time) with regular input methods.
  8. Battery life will most likely suck. We'll never get decent battery life out of handhelds... sigh...
  9. Cause it's so hilarious. Ridge Racer(s) were great additions to the series.
  10. Dude. Wipeout Pure and Ridge Racers were launch titles...
  11. Fucking awesome. That's all I have to say. Gimme a day and I'll take a crack at the vox. I adore this source. Dunno if my vocal style is what your after, but there's no harm in taking a stab at it Here's a (rough) current vocal sample of an original I'm working on... it'll give you a good idea of my vocal style. I can also add in a bit more mongrel to my vocals when it's called for. http://www.box.net/shared/90domvl50m Lemme know man, either way. We should collab one day anyways
  12. TOTALLY the first thing I noticed too; it's gorgeous! Track is awesome. Big fan of this genre, and great to hear a classic tune like this all Electro-Housed up. Love it :D
  13. Small update. http://www.box.net/shared/trgt9c64zf Got rid of most of the percussion for now, so the rest of the track is more exposed. Changed my bass samples, so the bottom end is a lot bigger. Again, this is a rough sketch still, but I'm hoping to get the guys together soon and record the rest of the track. Enjoy
  14. Yeah, I've got a female backing vocalist. My bass player sings also, and my brother is on drums, and he can hold a note quite well. So we've got 4 part harmonies already At the moment, I'm recording my vocals with a condenser mic in Soundforge, editing them in Acid Pro, and de-essing and such in Cubase. Need to learn Cubase and get out of working with Reason
  15. Thanks! I'm currently working on a re-write for that section of lyric... It sticks out to me too, and I am not happy with it. Awesome to see that was picked up I'll get the rest of the track down, and get the guys to do their bits and hopefully have a decent demo up soon! Thanks again for the comments
  16. http://www.box.net/shared/trgt9c64zf Ok, so I'm getting a band together. 80's inspired, synth pop/rock stuff, with catchy hooks, and a sense of fun missing in most modern pop music. So I'm writing a couple of proof-of-concept tracks for us to work on. This is the first: 'Lonely Girl'. Now bear in mind, this WIP doesn't include any of the band members yet (of which I've already got a bass/rhythm guitarist, 2 backing vocalists, a drummer and myself on lead vocals and programming duties). This is purely, as I mentioned earlier, just proof of concept. This is of the first chorus featured in the song. Pretty much everything is placeholder at the moment, so a lot of it sounds a little average (percussion etc...) but I think I'm onto something. Full lyrics to the song here (for a little context of the lyrics you'll hear). I used to know this girl. Her name was Laura-May. She’d spend her days on the phone just talking her time away. But all her friends grew tired real fast Of hearing her life stories ‘bout her wicked past. (They said) to know the girl was to tolerate her. (They said) the more she talked, the easier it was to hate her. Lonely, lonely girl; Nobody loves you anymore. Poor outspoken girl; The minute you try, they take off out the door. I wonder if you’d tried just to go with the flow and keep some things inside, (would you be the) lonely, lonely girl I used to know? She never really could decide who she wanted to be. Everything to everyone meant she could be nothing to me. You’d ask her one day; she’d swear she was gay, then spend the next ten minutes in the corner with Ray. (They’d say) she’d put it on and take it off at leisure. (They’d say) I wonder if she’s doing it for pleasure? Lonely, lonely girl; Nobody wants you anymore. Poor outspoken girl; The minute you cry, they kick you to the floor. I wonder if you knew that you were doing everything you really shouldn’t do, (would you be the) lonely, lonely girl I used to know? So one day this girl decided she was gonna change her ways. Nothing’s worked up until now; And she was gonna show them how... (She’d not be the) Lonely one. Ooh the lonely one. Oh yeah. (You’re not the) lonely, lonely girl who sits waiting for the phone to ring. (You’re not the) broken-hearted girl who’d been doing it hard, no kids; no house - no ring. You’ve stepped into the world to find that everything shines like its diamonds and pearls. (Now you’re not the) lonely, lonely girl I used to know. lemme know what you think!!!
  17. And that's the number one reason I want one. I've always been very fond of the DoA games, and this one looks (well, from the trailer anyways) like it could be the best yet. Actually, it looks like it's got a lot more going for it than any of the recent console versions... it looks rather ambitious. I'll be putting my pre-order in soon. Don't know how people can be all like "the launch line-up sucks - I don't want one." What system (apart from the Dreamcast) had a phenomenal launch line-up? There's always enough in a launch to tide me over for a couple of months till the rest of the games start to trickle out. The original DS was no different. There's still downloadable titles to take into account too; I'm sure we'll be seeing some stuff announced in the downloadable arena soon too. They'll want some neat things in there for day one. I'm just happy that I'll have a handheld with shiny graphics AND a good control system. The PSP was ok, but I've struggled with the PSP controls since day one. The nub was terrible, Sony's D-Pads have always been shitty, stiff and counter-intuitive, and it looks like there's more of the 3DS to fit into my rather large hands. I'm really looking forward to the 3DS A port of NiGHTS for the 3DS? YES PLEASE.
  18. My favourite Zircon mix to date. I'm all about this style of music, and yeah. Top, top stuff.
  19. Oh man, a thread totally after my own heart. Some of Tommy Tallarico's tracks for Exhumed/Powerslave (Sat/PSX) Lords of Thunder (Mega CD version) The Ninja Warriors (Mega CD) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f7qbG2ZgPs&playnext=1&list=PL4098551EBFC56F44&index=6 Sword of the Berserk - Gut's Rage (Dreamcast) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWXIQN7b9hw More to come eventually
  20. Awesome stuff Stevo. I'd say it's a pretty big improvement on the previous version of this track! Love your vocals in here man, and all your little synth arps are absolutely divine. This is could be one of my favourite mixes of yours, dude. Of course, I'm totally partial to the source material, so there may be a little bias in there Your totally right dude... definitely not enough Saturn ReMixes on the site. Saturn gaming was awesome, because it was part of that strange little period of time where most games had their OST's on the actual discs in the Redbook audio format. Moar Sega Saturn Mixes Plz.
  21. It is the game choice. This is my absolute favourite ReMix of yours. I think it just comes down to 'if it ain't Zelda, FF, or Mega Man', then anything gets overlooked. But man, Akira's theme is my favourite track from VF2 in the first place, and this very much sounds like a massive expansion on the original. You should be goddamn proud of this mix
  22. Definitely sounds beefier man, and I got no complaints whatsoever. You actually remind me a lot of Vangelis for some reason. Not saying your sound is that similar, but you seem to follow the train of thought he seems to in his pieces. Especially when it comes to background elements and the like. Actually, you just seem to remind me a lot of classic 80's synth composers in general. Very atmospheric, melodic, and engaging. Top-drawer stuff dude... keep it going :D
  23. Dude, this is one sexy-as-hell remix. I'm really, really enjoying this... I adore the source, and this is a fantastic spin on it. I'll chime in with some more constructive feedback later (if I can muster up any, that is.) As always, it's a real pleasure to listen to anything your working on. I can't really say that your stuff sounds quite like anything else I hear around these parts
