great_staryu Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I would like to again give a big thanks to a fantastic mixer, a "shttyjudgefgt", and my good friend Ari Asulin for not only hosting, but encoding this mix and its 9 minute ogg counterpart. encoding a variable bitrate mp3 isnt easy, as you dont know how big it will end up, and we were kind of working under a strict 6 meg limit with a 7 minute song, so everybody give Prot a hand.-Jesse Any chance the 9-minute original will turn up as a bittorrent somewhere? This is one of my favorite songs on ocr and I'd love to hear the full, high-bitrate version. Quote
Vig Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 probably not, but i'll tell you what i AM going to do i'm going to sooner or later update the entire song, better patches, better recording, smoother edges, and i'm gonna trim the fat so i can include the segment that the OCR version is missing. shooting for early 2005. As with any Vigilante mix the highlight of the song is the guitar work and I am definitely loving it in this one. I can't wait to hear an improved version. So the song can sound as good as the arrangement and guitar playing is. Quote

shrimpchips Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 The best thing about this song, is that it's long, over 7 minutes long, which gives us more mp3 to love. What can I say? Superb, in every meaning of the word - I don't see this coming off my playlist for a long long time. Quote
aj_hix36 Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 why does my computer insist that this song is 13 minutes long, when every1 else says its only minutes long? Quote
Vig Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Variable bitrate encoding. thanks for the wonderfuly thoughtful review. Quote

Wow, I'm more excited over then that then like.. Half-Life 2 or any of the other games that just came out Loved the song man. Quote
big giant circles Posted January 11, 2005 Posted January 11, 2005 The guitar line throughout is well thought out and well executed. i was glad there was no attempt at any sort of "cop out" electric lead. the choice of effects on the guitar was great. not much i can say except i thoroughly enjoy this piece. recommended. jordex Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 wow this is a great mix its got all of the best songs from super metroid usually transitions between different songs throw you off but its not like that at all in this song i was impressed with how vigilante put together brinstar and kraids hideout i love the changes he made to kraids hideout he finishes off the song by gradually slowing down and adding some strings to make it all the more beautiful the song clips a bit but its soft and soothing, one of the best metroid remixes out there, definatly worth the download Quote
ghaleon Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 Yes! Finally! An absolutely BEAUTIFUL Metroid remix! The transition at 1:43 is superb...in fact, the whole song is superb...recommended for pretty much anyone; it spans a wide array of musical tastes. Quote
TheDro Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 All I can say is smooth. It reminds me so well of such a great game full of great music. gj Quote
Zaknafean Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 This is in the top 5, of my favorice ocremix's list. It's just nice easy listening that I can't get sick of. It really takes the metroid theme in intersting ( and jazzy ) directions. I especialy love the kraids theme reinterpret. All this being said, does anyone know where, or have the 9 minutes version mentioned on page one? I'd love to hear it. Or even better an original wave ( tho that may be asking a bit much ). To keep the forum clutter free, a PM will suffice. Quote
fel!x Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 I cannot express how absolutely much I love this remix. Most songs with a pleasant, relaxing tone don't leave me feeling pleasant or relaxed, but this one never fails to calm me down and make me at least crack half a smile. When I'm having a hard time sleeping, it helps put me out. When I'm ticked, it helps me think rationally. A shrink could prescribe this song and cure a lot more patients a lot faster. [/rant|rave] Short version: Bloody awesome ReMix. Quote
Mario25 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 No doubt about it with a little jazz in there this is the most best song i have ever heard out of all my other metroid remixes and adding kraids lair just gets even better i recommond this song to alot of people cause i really think it runs into anybody who listens to it uve done well Vigilante well done superb!!!!!!!!! 42 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 imo, the initial flute seems a little off, but that can be forgiven because this mix is epic. This mix is definitely something you want to have coffee over; one can almost even smell the beans roasting. At least, until it gets sort of frantic. Still, I love how the terrain changes throughout this mix. In most mixes, new territory is fairly in your face, but the changes here are more subtle, more "look where you've came from" instead of "looking where you're going". Great work. Quote
maniater Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 this is magnificant, althought one particular part was very off or just seem to annoy me, sry if i sound like a bitch, the guitar part at 0:35 with the guitar changing from one speaker to the other seemed to switch at a bad time. Quote
phillbato Posted May 31, 2009 Posted May 31, 2009 Beautiful remix. I could honestly imagine this being played in the background at a fancy, romantic restaurant without feeling geeky Quote
JP_Wright Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 One of the truly 'elite' tracks from OCR. This song is so masterfully crafted that I can play it for my dad or my son and both like it. To achieve such tight unity in a medley is hard, but it is done here. Seriously a 10 of 10. Quote
yosefu Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I love the intro because it reminds me of space as being cold and lonely. The rest of the song is just beautiful with the piano. Great job! Quote
liquid wind Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I love this, does anyone still have the full length ogg? Quote
Kaxon Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Yeah I would love to hear the longer version too, this is one of my all time favorite remixes. Quote
ella guro Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I uploaded the expanded version to some temporary webspace if you wanna hear it: http://www.mediafire.com/?6s69h6mu2k9m2xv It should be up there for awhile, at least. edit: link should be working now. Quote
Emunator Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks, if that mirror goes down I can host the extended version on Tindeck or something Thanks for sharing Liz! This is really a masterful track, the extended intro was a nice surprise and transitioned pretty well into the meat of the track. The guitar sounds a lot better than it did in some of Vig's earlier tracks, you can tell there was some real improvement on that front. Honestly, this is the kind of thing I can just fall asleep to just because of how chill it is... at least, for the first few minutes of it. After it takes a more dramatic tone, I can't say it's really as enjoyable for me but I can't deny the musical prowess behind all parts of this song I dunno if I would consider this to be Vig's best work, as I still like the instrumental variety of Beneath the Surface better, but in terms of arrangement and just sheer epicness, this one wins out. Absolutely stellar work! Quote
