Mr Azar Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 A Super Mario Brothers tune done 60's/70's style. Neat! I liked the piece for the most part, but it was a little rough in the recording. 8 out of 10. By the way, I recognize it vaguely from SMB3, but can't quite recall the source tune. Anyone know where it's from in game? Quote

Mr Azar Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Gaspolamitsumarishinkamasamayo! I should really find the power cable for my GBA... Quote
superjoe30 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 The beginning of it sounds like that one Red Hot Chili Peppers song. *looks it up* Under the Bridge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQOYCXKfpt4 amiright Quote
MechaFone Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I found DJ Pretzel's initial review to be most entertaining. Also, this mix is very uh...I don't know how to describe what it makes me feel. But I do like it. Now that I remember the song that is being remixed, I do have to say that is a very lofty, dreamy take on the warp area. It is very nice. Quote
Yuiopdude Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Dude... wait... what? God... when they say it makes you feel sleepy... they mean it... But it also makes me feel a bit mellow... I can only imagine what this is like ON drugs, though, I had a long hard day... so my tiredness could be adding to the effect of this song... Wow, I DEFINITELY got this one... it's forcing me to post a review... Which, since it's not really alive, is a REAL accomplishment... *listens again* Whoa... dude... Quote
goombapatrol Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 sleepy *yawn* decent remix. nothing particularly outstanding, but nice and unique. i like it. Quote
Dhsu Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Maybe it's just me, but I got a Latin vibe from this. Very similar to something I would expect to hear in Grim Fandango. It is a bit short...I could easily see this progressing into a heavier track through adding elements like electric guitar and percussion. Digging it very much though, great work. Quote
Evahn Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I almost wish this hadn't been accepted, so I could record a better version of it, especially now that I've got better equipment (and a better ear for good tone). I also have a version that incorporates the final Bowser fight theme from the same game. Can't use it now, though ... I was not expecting all the drug mentions in reference to my recording. It hadn't even occurred to me that it sounded that way until I saw the judges' decisions. I'll have to show it to my stoner friends and see what they think of it. Quote

I kinda like it short like this... and as the Pretzel man says, it's infinitely loopable... meaning it has the potential to have a run time of infinity... Ok, I swear... I DON'T do drugs... I'm just really tired, and extremely overworked... it's the same kinda feeling... Or... at least that's what I think... OH GOD, you all think I'm a stoner now =P... Quote

Either way though, you should post the updated version here. Quote

Red Shadow Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Nice writeup djp. Hahah too bad zyko didnt have anything to say in the decisions forum Quote
ZealPath Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Considering the length of the original I think the length and variance of this mix is perfect. Very dreamy, or whatever other word you want to use to describe it. I can see it being used as an intro to some sort of bizzare 70s movie or something, very different. Funny thing is somehow, this ended up being the first SMB3 mix that I have downloaded, considering how often I come here to check out new and old mixes alike, that was a bit of a surprise. Quote
Evahn Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 My thanks to everyone that liked this. I'm totally going to record my new version. You guys have inspired me. Quote
Polo Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I'm getting a really Earthbound-ish vibe from this, like from Summers or the Cliff That Time Forgot or the coffee break cutscene. It just feels so warm and reminiscent. Plus it makes me chuckle. No laughing gas necessary. Quote
Mr Azar Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Uh, djp kinda says what it is. I read the first post of this topic, but didn't see any mention as to the song's specific origin in game. Quote
John Revoredo Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Wow,.. pretty sweet mix. The recording is pretty rough, yeah, but is a nice add to OCr anyway. Good job Quote
CarnCarby Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Polo, I was wondering if anybody else picked up on that. This screams Earthbound to me. Or, well, sort of mutters it in a David Lynch-esque fashion. If Earthbound had a secret warp area, this would totally be its soundtrack. Quote
Eino Keskitalo Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I enjoy this one very much. Sparsity of the instrumentation is good. Sounds tired, in a good way. --Eino Quote
The Bologna Did It Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 I can't say that I like this one all that much. It's very repetitive and there really isn't all that much substance to it. It's kind of nice to listen to for a little bit but not for the full duration of the song. Quote
Red9 Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 This is deffinately a sleeper hit..........i need a cup o' joe after listening to it for too long. I like it. Quote
LuigiFan Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I just wanted to say that I used this song to cure the small bout of insomnia I had the other night - it's perfect for calming down and relaxing. I'm interested to hear what else you can do - please do post the updated version, I think it'd be very nice to hear. Quote
