Well guys, RWBY made it's debut last night. I was worried about the voice acting, but they really nailed. I don't know how they did it, but every aspect from the music, to the story, to the action is looking really good. The only thing that doesn't get me excited is the school setting. But I have a feeling we wont be spending that much time there. Check it out!

It's been over 20 days since someone has posted in this thread, and that person was me.... EDIT: the last two posts, actually.

Strike the Blood seems pretty generic as anime go, but that's not really an issue for me so far. Kill La Kill has that style going similar to FLCL and Gurren Lagann (same director apparently). I'm not sure what I think of it yet.

I recently read through Superior and its sequel (didn't finish it before, restarted it). I enjoyed it, even though it had its moments where the plot line got weak and the story didn't flow right. I've also been reading a few Korean webcomics that have been translated. Noblesse and Kubera are a couple I'd recommend checking out at least for a few chapters. A lot of those Naver comics seem well written to me. I've been keeping up with regular manga like Beelzebub, too.

Allow me to break that combo, then.

First thing first: if you weren't already aware, the third Madoka Magica movie is coming to North America in early December, and tickets are on sale in most of the theaters showing it!

I've already bought my tickets. Have you?

-----

In other news, it's likely that the AIR visual novel will very soon have a proper English translation! Apparently this guy has been working on it for a while, and his goal is a "late October" patch release. Which means... maybe any day now, if he's keeping to it. I've been waiting for this ever since I finished Planetarian. Very exciting.

-----

I've recently started watching currently airing anime, instead of exclusively anime that's already finished. This season, I can definitely recommend you check out Kyoukai no Kanata. It's your typical KyoAni goodness. So far the story and characters seem to be developing pretty well. Also on my list this season is Coppelion and Nagi no Asukara. Coppelion has lots of potential but hasn't hit its stride yet. We'll see about that one. As for Nagi no Asukara... goddamn beautiful. Even if it had nothing else going for it, the animation is still goddamn beautiful, but it does have other things going for it! Compelling conflicts, strong characters that, particularly with the main character, are quickly evolving with time... Good stuff for a drama so far. I'm really wondering where they're going to drive the story, though, since it's a two-cour show.

I have a few others on my list, but no real thoughts on them so far beyond Kill la Kill just being completely over-the-top crazy.

-----

If you haven't noticed already, I've stopped with my reviews as of late. I don't know if I'm going to continue them, since it's a bit pointless if no one cares to read them. If you want more, let me know. If you don't... well, I guess you don't need to do anything! Lucky you. If there's interest, I'll continue, otherwise, I may just give little quick shoutouts here and there for shows and such that I'm enjoying.

My favorites this season are Ace of Diamond, Yowamushi Pedal. I think it's cause I'm in a mood for sports animes. Hajime no Ippon not as much but I'll give it a few more eps. Oh and Teekyu is still good. Overall I'm happy with the season lineup.

They'll probably not show Madoka in Sweden, maybe in Stockholm on a special event but I haven't heard of that before. I think I'd prefer watching Madoka alone anyways, although watching it in a cinema would be pretty sweet.

I've actually been pleasantly surprised with how much I'm enjoying this one. On the surface it looks pretty generic (and come to think of it, there's really nothing overly unique or spectacular about it), but there's something compelling about it. :P

I've also been surprised with how much I enjoy Kill la Kill, considering I couldn't at all get into Gurren Lagan. I love the way it's a sort of homage to classic 70's - 80's anime and superhero stuff. And the quality of the animation and directing is just enough to overcome the fact that there's so much fanservice.

Speaking of "homage to classic superhero stuff", anybody else been watching Samurai Flamenco? I've only watched the first two episodes so far, but I'm really digging the style, and the concept of a guy who isn't at all a superhero going around doing vigilante stuff is neat (kind of a more light-hearted take on the Kick-Ass concept). My only concern is that -- as of the two episode mark, anyway -- there doesn't seem to be any sort of goal or direction at all for the show to go in. I like it so far, but if it keeps meandering about, it won't be able to hold me all season.

Animeigo is having a kickstarter to fund a deluxe Blu-Ray set of Bubblegum Crisis.

It's already made significant progress, which is good.

Since the original Bubblegum Crisis is one of the single finest examples of anime (and one of the best examples of 80s action anime), people who claim to be "anime fans" should check it out! The HD music video on the page is gorgeous.

Yesssssssss

Fully agree. Bubblegum Crisis is a damn good anime. It deserves the BD treatment.

Strike the Blood pales in comparison to Beyond the Boundary imo, which follows from a similar premise (monster hunter girl meets monster boy WITH A TWEEST!). It's shaping up to be a pretty neat character drama with some STELLAR action and downright beautiful animation/color.

Also, SERIOUSLY EVERYBODY WATCH KILL LA KILL

Sorry, I didn't think much of the ending of FMA: Brotherhood. The rest of the show is incredible though.

I recently watched all of Hajime no Ippo and caught up to where they are at on the newest season. I love it. My backlog of anime is huge. Dying to watch Kill la Kill, Coppelion, Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, Gailei Donna, and after reading up on Nagi no Asukara I want to start that one up too. And despite the puke-inducing 3D of Arpeggio of Blue Steel, I want to watch Battleship the Anime more than I can say. However my upcoming PCAT and my far-too-frequent Physical and Inorganic Chemistry exams have been hindering me to no end. At this point it's just a wishlist.

And for what it's worth Halcyon, I always enjoyed reading your reviews!

Honestly, they ended Brotherhood conclusively, and with a relative minimum of pseudo-philosophical rambling, and they avoided making it a bad Mind Screw Ending, which is pretty typical in many series. The final fight may have been brief, but it wasn't ridiculous to either extreme of being overly easy or impossibly difficult for Ed to handle. They tied up character arcs in a very satisfactory manner, too. I really couldn't ask more of an ending than that.

I caught up to the most current episode in Hajime no Ippo: Rising! after taking about a month to watch all of Hajime no Ippo and Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger from the beginning. I really enjoy the show.

As for FMA:B I just though it was a little to curt of an ending. Maybe I'm too caught up in philosophical ramblings and whatnot, but I just didn't think there was an exciting conclusion to match the strength of the rest of the show.

Okay, there's one anime I've been talking about lately that I watched. It's called Spice and Wolf. I don't doubt that it's already somewhere in the thread, but I really like how it does things so differently that most other anime. A wolf goddess who has been providing a village with good harvests for centuries sneaks aboard a traveling merchant's cart and makes a deal with him to take her back to her homeland in the north. The series is basically medieval/renaissance economics porn. All the action and plot devices and twists and turns are all about various intrigues related to making trades at a bargain, understanding currency exchanges, purposefully manipulating the price of a booming commodity, etc. It's really really fascinating. Naturally, it's still anime weird, but it's really good in a subtle way.
