Emunator Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I'm a huge fan of Skrypnyk's style of mind-blowing electronica drumwork and have spent a lot of time searching for similar artists but to little avail. It's one of my favorite styles of music and it's disappointing that I've only been able to find one artist that actually uses it on a frequent basis Also, is there a technical name for that subgenre of electronic music that might aid me in my search? Thanks in advance Quote
Nase Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 IDM/Braindance? Dunno what Skryp's been doing lately really, but that's the genre that came up with the beats you're talking about. Quote
OverCoat Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I can only think of a few artists that are vaguely similar One of my favourite electronic artists would be transient http://www.frontiernet.net/~transient/ has a very unique sound, on his mp3s page I would check out "a sudden soft implosion of noiselessness" and "hexual ceiling" to start out. Some other artists that are great idm/glitchers are Kaneel [ http://www.mynameiskaneel.com/ ]and Lackluster [ http://www.lackluster.org/ ] For Kaneel, check out his La Pink Note EP, and Lackluster I would recommend CDR#2 and lax EP. I highly recommend all 3 of those. Also, Skrypnyk and I team up quite a bit for albums Quote
Skrypnyk Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I suppose I should chime in with my two cents. YOU HAVE AWESOME TASTE IN MUSIC!!!! . . . anyways. if you're looking for other artists on OCR with a similar style, I would like to think that I'm pretty original and you won't be able to find anyone on here. That said I could be wrong and I can give you a couple of artists who may come close: About:Blank, Radiowar, Overcoat (and the links/people he mentioned above), Another Soundscape did a couple of remixes with "wannabe-skrypnyk-drums"., and then there's the dirty mix. As for genres/sub-genres, I guess it is commonly called IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) or Glitch. Or Braindance as Nase mentioned. Quote
prophetik music Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 hey, there's some good stuff referenced in this thread. i'll be listening to some of this at work this week =) Quote
The Joker Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Been meaning to get in on this for the last few days. I've been listening to "Skynyk-esque" music for the last few weeks. Found a lot of good artists that fit what you seem to be looking for. Apparat Zagar Mr. Meeble Moby (his newest album) Amiina (not so much the beats as the ambience) Trifonic (someone mentioned them, & i agree) So, yeah, those are some good ones off the top of my head. Quote
Hy Bound Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Trifonic is awesome at that kinda glitchy, technical programming. Also, for some reason, I hadn't really checked out Skrypnyk's stuff that closely. This is some seriously awesome glitch-beat music. I want to hear a lot more! Also, what programs do you use for that? dBlue Glitch? I have a back-asswards way of doing glitch stuff and kinda want to be able to do it better Quote
Vilecat Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 But skrypnyk sucks! And he's ontarian too!!! Quote
PrototypeRaptor Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 How about Trifonic? That video reminded me of Gantz Graf, one of the craziest music video sync jobs ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9lpy6UROF4 (watch it in HD) It's a bit...crazier....than some of the stuff posted, but when I think of glitch beats, well, Autechre is where my mind goes. YMMV...it's either awesome music or unlistenable noise Quote
Deathtank Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 That video reminded me of Gantz Graf, one of the craziest music video sync jobs ever.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9lpy6UROF4 (watch it in HD) It's a bit...crazier....than some of the stuff posted, but when I think of glitch beats, well, Autechre is where my mind goes. YMMV...it's either awesome music or unlistenable noise lol, they must german right? those germen are always creating crazy techno like Kraftwerk Anyway Trifonic sound like BT's This Binary Universe to me actually. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-duqsCFXxc Quote
ambinate Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I just heard about Trifonic and I checked out their latest CD. I really dig it, but yeah, it definitely reminds me of This Binary Universe. I don't consider that a bad thing, though. Skrypnyk is rad, too. His NiGHTS remix is one of my favorites. Quote

Radiowar Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Off the top of my head, Ochre is pretty great. I've also been listening to Fahrenheit Fair Enough by Telefon Tel Aviv a lot lately. Quote
