Brushfire
I am way under quailified to talk about this, but I like Dethklok.
Devyn
Dethklok is awesome. They're taking themselves way more seriously on their new album, which is cool but not as funny as the first album. My favorite off the new one is Comet Song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy7_0TpVEZg I still feel kinda embarassed that I listen to this type of music in my late twenties, but screw it, it rocks. LuketheXjesse
I have not bothered listening to the new album yet, although I do have the disc laying around. Loved the first album, however.
Devyn
You should probably go listen to it right now. They take themselves way more seriously, but it's really good. Production is way better too. Oh, and for the rest of you, a true metal classic:
NNY
Ha ha. Six pages in and no mention of VAN CANTO.
Necrotic
Can't forget Gojira. Mario Duplantier is a hell of a drummer. He makes complex poly-rhythms look and sound so simple. Also I can't believe these guys are tuned to D-fucking-standard (and Drop C occassionally) on 6-strings and are still heavier than life itself. Bahamut
Ha ha. Six pages in and no mention of VAN CANTO. Van Canto is indeed awesome - man its been like 2 years since I've heard of them.
PriZm
No Andromeda love ? Even from Bahamut and Luke ?
Bahamut
I haven't listened to much of them actually - have heard some good stuff from friends, but haven't gotten to listen to it myself.
Demonstray
I actually can't see how someone can talk about Dethklok seriously here. They are taking themselves probably way LESS seriously nowadays as you can plainly hear by the overuse of double kick (which gets really, really annoying quite fast, I had to listen to a lot of prog rock to remember why I like music). At least on the first Dethalbum they had interesting drum beats/fills and some interesting melodies and riffs. In this one, it's like Brendon took what everyone loved about the first Dethalbum and changed it ever so slightly (recycling old stuff) but by then I was already bored with it. The joke actually fits with the show, so the music should stay there. Anyway, fuck that, Edge of Sanity. Crimson (38 minutes) & Crimson II (41 minutes) bitches. Exciting the whole way through. The Biznut
Van Canto is indeed awesome - man its been like 2 years since I've heard of them. Van Canto! I have a few friends who have made the journey over to Wacken the last two years, and I remember them telling me about them. If you are on this thread and you don't know of Wacken Open Air festival... well, I don't even know what to say next. Go look at it now at the very least, put it on your bucket list, whatever you gotta do to rectify. Andromeda was mentioned. I had a listen and liked it. Scale the Summit should get a mention for the progtologists out there.
Bahamut
One of these years I want to go to Wacken - although the past few years I haven't been terribly impressed with its lineup, it's still THE metal festival.
Brandon Strader
Gojira kicks butt, I saaw them live with Behemoth in Pittsburgh. It was one heck of a show. Better than Mayhem Festival this past summer. I'll definitely see them again if they come through. Sigh is a pretty cool Japanese metal band, I'm only mentioning them because they have a new CD which I have not yet heard, but the editor for the ezine I work on is mailing it to me... I'm excited. Check out Imaginary Sonicscape -- 2001. Also I have my own metal bands... commentsplz http://www.myspace.com/instaidgrace and www.rainwound.com (full CD on the music page)

The joke actually fits with the show, so the music should stay there.I wholeheartedly disagree, the 2nd album is miles better than their first one and shows they're pulling away from their gimmicky imagery (in the music obviously, not the show). The songs are structured much better, they have a more mature feeling to them, and unlike the first album, there's some pretty thick atmosphere going on. The Dethalbum II is my surprise of the year I think.

Fishy
deathklok are pretty hilarious imo. They don't take themselves seriously at all and there's some pretty cool riffs. Also, Mike Keneally plays with them live; I'd go just to see him to be honest.

Necrotic
I know I tend to lean towards the more technical/brutal/heavy stuff and a lot of people don't dig it the same way I do, but I really feel like The Faceless (progressive technical death, it's got energy but it's also got concept) and Neuraxis are really worth bringing up. had arguably the best black metal album of '08 so I highly recommend them as well.I know they've already been brought up but everyone needs to listen to times infinity and then some. A Random Tiger
Only band I like that people wouldn't already know of is Root. I've seen them called Dark Epic Metal Which is a pretty stretched label, but makes sense
SonicSynthesis
In the metal genre, I have heard the good, bad, ugly and genius. It seems that the bands whom suck consist of this: 100% energy and 0% concept *looks at DragonForce* ¬¬ This looks like my type of thread. My favourite type of metal would be Progressive, but i like most metal sub genres. Here's a few bands i would recommened. Dream Theater, Black Label Society, Symphony X, Metallica, John 5, Trivium, Disturbed, Fear Factory, Megadeth, Static-X, Stratovarius, Racer X, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, Machine Head, Bullet For My Valentine, Iced Earth, Rob Zombie, System Of A Down, Mnemic and Ozzy Osbourne to name a few Here's a song to check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU_GrAZrpHA
The Phalanx
There is a distinct lack of Touhou metal remixes in this thread. Lemme remedy that real quick. Demetori is pretty much gold-slathered gold. Can't really go wrong with their arrangements overall, as each one is distinct enough not to get boring and are chock full of energy WITHOUT lacking substance. Septette for the Dead Princess ~ Ascending Into Naught http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-WmpoP6ZSs Bloom nobly, cherry blossoms of Sumizome ~ Border of Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36S6zc4GLA&feature=related Youkai Mountain ~ Mysterious Mountain Kid's Festival ~ Innocent Treasures The Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood Necrofantasia ~ Remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAiEEOxM6Yo Xi-on is a bit more peppy and light-hearted compared to Demetori, but this is far from a bad thing. I've only just started listening to this circle, and I like what I'm hearing. Cinderella Cage ~ Kagome-Kagome Gensokyo Millennium ~ History of the Moon Nostalgic Blood of the East ~ Old World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wR_pYJ7q9U Crow's Claw is pretty crunchy stuff. That's all I got to say on them, really, though they DID do an FF remix album; haven't checked that out yet. Salluz
Ah, isn't it great to rock out to excellent metal. Dragonland and Dream Theater win on so many levels, as well as everyone else on here.
