I know everyone's kinda sick of TF2 with all this halloween stuff, but can we get some non-eyeduct games going on BLU? It's empty every night now it seems, and that makes me a sad panda.

I just fixed a bug in MapChooser Extended on that server that caused it to stop working whenever a custom map was in the vote.

However, BLU is now also running the BuiltinVotes extension, so expect it to look different.

Does anyone know what the abusive servers were doing that was considered abuse? The blog post didn't really elaborate.

Sadly, no, because they didn't elaborate. I assume things like tricking the server into thinking bots were people, then allowing one person to run around collecting gifts and things like that.

Likely, the Steam accounts associated with the servers got all their other servers delisted as well.

On another subject, I scheduled a Good, Old Fashioned, Traditional Quest... er... game for tonight at 9:00pm EDT / 6:00pm PDT / 1:00am Saturday UTC. This doubles as a public test of the BuiltinVotes extension and MapChooser Extended 1.7.2a's BuiltinVotes support.

If it crashes, I can unload said extension and continue with normal vote support.

(Side note: US DST ends this weekend.)

As a reminder, Valve says the Halloween event ends today. Which, as I recall, is midnight UTC (24 minutes from now).

Finally. I was getting tired of the Halloween menu.

Unrelated: In an attempt to figure out what's causing my ping issues, I discovered that checking the servers through Steam before opening TF2 yielded more standard ping levels. So I told my antivirus to ignore everything in my TF2 folder. This was last night, and except for a few seconds at the beginning of each map, it ran pretty smoothly.

So...yay?

Even more unrelated: There is very little in the world that can make my soul hurt as much as watching our Spy in the deathcam attempt to snipe across Nucleus while an undisguised enemy Spy walks up with the Sapper, stands behind our own Spy, and walks away without doing anything. True story.

This just hit:

An optional update for Team Fortress 2 is now available. The specific changes include:

- Ended the Halloween sale/event

- Fixed a client crash in the replay editor

- Fixed a client crash in the fullscreen store preview

- Updated the localization files

Since it's optional, and seems to have no server-side components, I'm not bothering to update servers,

SourceMod 1.4.0 has a bug that prevents my Force Holidays plugin from running correctly, so it's not yet installed. Otherwise, when it is working (in SourceMod 1.4.1), I'll likely turn on full moon mode, which enables just the Halloween costumes.

Edit: If you see me hopping on and off servers tonight, it's because I'm testing BuiltinVotes changes dealing with Yes/No votes... and eventually testing L4D2 support (can't test L4D, not installed).

What bothers you more, the firs Spy's ignorance or the honor among thieves?

Oh shi- do you think the second Spy thought he was a friend?

I think it was a combination of the first Spy having the situational awareness of a brick and the second Spy not doing anything. I honestly think he was trying to backstab with the Sapper. (Also he was completely undisguised, etc.)

Well, looks like we finally know what happened to the Steam forums:

November 10th, 2011

Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Gabe.

Woah...what the hell? Hadn't heard anything about that until now. Don't script kiddies have something better to do with their time, like fap to tentacle porn?

And either I'm just logging in at the wrong times, or the servers have been unusually empty for the past week or so.

This happened several hours ago, but I wasn't around:

We've released a mandatory update for Team Fortress 2. The notes for the update are below.

Thanks.

-Eric

----------------------------------------

Source Engine Changes (TF2, DoD:S, HL2:DM)

- Added rate limiting for connections and added the following ConVars to support that:

- sv_max_connects_sec

- sv_max_connects_window

- sv_max_connects_sec_global

Team Fortress 2

- Added a full moon background for the main menu

- Added new promo items

- Fixed a Linux dedicated server crash when using +randommap on the command line

- Fixed some bugs with the way items appear in the Steam Community and Steam Trading

- Optimized several materials to improvement performance

- Updated the localization files

BLU has vanished off the face of the planet, I'm trying to find out what happened with it. RED should have auto-updated.

Hmm, are those rate limits client-side? That might solve the issue my crappy modem has when the server browser opens, where all the incoming connections overfill its memory and nuke my connection.

And looks like the new promo items are for Saints Row: The Third. There's a luchador mask and new gloves for the Heavy, and a badge for all classes. The gloves look like they act the same as normal Fists, except they make someone explode if you kill them with a critical hit. Fun!

If you missed out on getting halloween parts, I have a plethora of extras that I'm offering up on a first come first serve basis, unless I hate you, then I'll just reject you and move on to the next person.

Try to be generous and not just claim all of them, leave some for others.

They're free, but I won't say no if you feel you must give me something in return.
