Cerrax
Cheating Chiptunes OR How To Make Chiptunes Without Learning A Tracker First of all, if you are dead serious about making chiptunes, you should go over this thread ( http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=13715 ), because real chip musicians use trackers and its the only way to get the truly original chip sound. For the rest of us who just think it's a neato sound and maybe want to stick it into a mix, this thread is for you. Anyway, linky link: [http://cerrax-rant.blogspot.com/2010/08/rant-titlecheating-chiptunes.html Enjoy
Tex
Link is broken. Might want to fix it --> http://cerrax-rant.blogspot.com/2010/08/rant-titlecheating-chiptunes.html Anyhow, I use this thread as reference (and then there's this neat thread on 8bitcollective) to make NES music in FLStudio. Here's a recreation of Magnet Man from Mega Man 3 (though I didn't bother adding drums yet).

RushJet1
I agree, trackers are kinda lame, and I rarely use them. I've been living the dream for years now!

Namo
There are some NES soundfonts for midi.
OverCoat
There are some NES soundfonts for midi. I think Midee made a NES soundfont a long time ago [like 1997 or some shit] that got really widespread, it's probably the one you could get off zophar.net forever. Anyway, the NES soundfont off zophar is fucking terrible, the samples all have an attack of like 30ms which makes them incredibly useless if you want to make authentic chiptune stuff. Plus soundfonts are terribly obsolete, try thinking of anything other than FL Studio's soundfont loader or SFZ+ that loads soundfonts and does it right! Best option for people using DAWs is probably the magical 8bit plug, YMvst for Atari ST stuff, and VOPM for genesis/MVS yamaha FM stuff
Tex
3xOsc is lightyears more effective than magical 8bit plug as described in the links I provided earlier in this thread.
DDRKirby(ISQ)
neat, but also covers some techniques that people getting into tracking (maybe myself) should know, such as the echo+chorus type stuff. Also, attack, decay, sustain might not necessarily have to be at 0, unless you're trying to do your volume fading manually.
PROTO·DOME
Anyway, the NES soundfont off zophar is fucking terrible The drums are alright, the GB kit in particular.

Tex
I stand corrected. The drums are alright, the GB kit in particular. I don't really find the quality in those GB drums to be that glorious. Drums sound weak and it doesn't even have tom toms. There are Game Boy games with much more impressive percussion, like Trip World.
RushJet1
Fixed the troll. I don't believe you. LIES are coming from your mouth!Admit your tracker love to everybody! I use PPMCK. It's silly to assume trackers are the only way to make real chipmusic If you want me to actually troll, I can accommodate but ... I'd rather not. Nase
Rushjet is simply too hardcore. but really, may i ask why? don't tell me that you're faster with it than an experienced famitracker user... it just seems like unnecessary geekdom unless there are any advantages to it that i'm not aware of.
