As a new player, two things you need to be aware of:

1) DO NOT craft a flint! Flints set fires and fires can and will spread out of control, regardless of how confident you are in your ability to contain it. So just don't.

2) DO NOT destroy other people's stuff or steal from them.

Otherwise, welcome to the server, follow a highway, pick an empty spot and build away!

Work, real life and Disgaea 2 been keeping me away from the server but I know I haven't been gone THAT long for any one to forget already.

I tried that and either ended up crashing or going back to the spawn. Its all good though, its not like I have a giant house like everybody else.

Take the East highway from spawn, keep going past the Pyramid of Lava, past the face of trolls, then take the first highway exit on the right going towards the tower with a glass observation deck. There is a dungeon to the left of the exit uncovered.

hmm, that is weird, none of my cloth from my cloth tower has dissapeared yet/ever. although whats happening to your cloth could have been caused by all the lava (in theory)

yep, if lava is within a block or two of flammable materials, you can be sure that they'll catch fire

flammable items within three blocks of lava will burn.

as will anything you throw into it. Makes pretty useful for getting rid of that 500 blocks of dirt you don't need.

because, you know, you can't just toss it on the floor, and wait five minutes for it to clear.

OK, but the cloth isn't within that distance of any exposed lava. So unless it can go right through stone to catch it on fire, the cloth shouldn't be affected.
