Rapidkirby3k Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Looking back on my very old music/remixes many years ago and having to face reality in such a repertoire fashion related to feedback, among other things in life, I really wanted to start fresh by improving my music ability. Since there's now a rule stating that I'm supposed to update my old remix threads with brand new content, I really don't want to reply in them. This is primarily because I feel very embarrassed of my dated works, which leads to three of my questions: 1. Is there a way to delete some of my old remix threads? 2. Are there any exceptions to that rule? 3. Has anyone here ever had to go through the same uncomfortable feelings about your old musical works? Btw, I'm not exactly sure where post this thread, so if this is in the incorrect category, please let me know. Quote
Argle Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Just make sure the links don't link to anything. Even so, you can't erase all traces. Awhile back i was easily able to find my shitty old game remixes that i haven't even posted anywhere in a decade. I didn't even have them on my hard drives anymore! So no, don't worry about rewriting history. You sucked then, you're better now, keep moving forward. Quote
ad.mixx Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I think it's good to keep old stuff in your memory. It has actually been encouraging for me at times just to see how much I've grown. Quote

Some people don't even think of viewing threads from the beginning all that often because the topics are just so old. [/sarcasm] 2. There's no rule. Several people have updated old remixes before, and they've posted in the same old topic as expected. 3. Yes, but I don't really feel bad that I made them. Quote
AngelCityOutlaw Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 A friend and I got together a while back and had a fire. We burned the last remaining copies of a CD we made about ten years ago. I refuse to do a Google search to see if any of the music remains in the online realm. Such garbage was not meant to be heard by human ears. Every year I nuke my soundcloud of its worst tracks and leave only the good stuff. I'd say if it's possible to eliminate all trace of music you made that you hate - do it. Full-on musical genocide. Lemonectric Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) Alternative opinion: Save and cherish your most awful early work. It is a beautiful reminder of how stupid you used to be. case in point Anyway. You can't delete threads, but you still have full control over the content of your old posts. If you're updating an old track, edit out the outdated links and replace them with new ones before you reply to the thread. If someone quoted the old links, whatever. You'll be judged by the most recent work you've shown. You can also just abandon your old work and focus on new tracks. Sometimes it's best to move on. Either way, you can edit out the old links. Liontamer Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I'll co-sign what everyone else said and also point out that you 1) can edit your old posts) and 2) don't need to waste energy being self-conscious about the old stuff, because no one cares. Face forward. Less thinking. More doing. Quote
XPRTNovice Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Face forward. Less thinking. More doing. That's the POWER of the home depot? Quote
Rozovian Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 As a workshop mod, I can tell you how I see you, your old works, and your old threads: Welcome back! Your old works are useful references for people who wonder when in the process you came up with which idea, and a nice history of your development as an artist. I wouldn't delete any of my own old terrible stuff. They're useful. Embarrassing, sure, but useful. You don't have to necro some post that's years old. Feel free to make a new one. The rule/guideline/whatever is mainly so that people don't post a dozen threads that are just updates of the same track and clog up the workshop with that one single track. While some of us might find it useful to have a look at your old thread to remember what we thought back then, you don't have to mention it, you don't have to link to it, you don't have to necro it. Pretend like they don't exist, start fresh, post new stuff, and we'll complain about your new stuff. Quote
Jamphibious Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Most of my old crap is on Newgrounds still and I'm too lazy to delete it. Sometimes its funny to look back at it And sometimes there's the odd idea that I actually DO like but can totally spruce up! Quote
