MnP ARCHIVE  made by Trism ;)

The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required.

MnP Instructions/Guidelines

  1. Covers and Sound Upgrades are permitted.
  2. Most or all of the source notes must be present (but not necessarily in the exact same order), secondly the mood (energy, pacing, feelings being conveyed etc) should also be retained. For example, a source tune that is fast-paced and energetic that's remixed into a mellow/chill-out theme would be a hard sell.
  3. If you decide to do a genre swap (i.e. symphonic to techno), make sure that the conditions of #2 are met.
  4. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max).
  5. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry.
  6. Please don't make any comments about people's entries - including your own - until the Voting process is concluded.  BONUS entries are exempt of this rule.
  7. All competitors and voters must adhere to the rules stated within: Competition Code and Conduct

- When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make ppl's lives easier.
- In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)

Meant to participate, but I got distracted by Let's Plays, vidyagames and real-life shit.  But largely disorganization :P - maybe next round.

Submitted my bonus entry! I've noticed everyone comments that I need to go deeper with my ReMixes. I think I failed to create something unique this submission. Again.

I really don't know how to make a good ReMix and I want to learn.

Explain your usual workflow and describe what aspects of it you think need to be improved. Or maybe pick a part of someone else's remix that you enjoyed and try to recreate it.

  • Zorrakh got 1st with 3 points.
  • Trism got for 2nd with 2 points.

Zorrakh PM me for the round 87 entry!

And I dropped the ball on the voting process too.  Good host I am not, this round.  Luckily, Dex swooped in to save the round - I thought I would submit a late vote but realized that Dex had MOSTLY said how I felt about this round, in terms of placement and feedback.  Also, Really glad to see you return, Trism, for a kick-ass rock 'n roll entry there - really liked the sample quality of that E-geetar.

Ah crud, I thought the vote ended today. XD Sorry about that, I got wrapped up in work. Good round, Trism and Silverpool, I really enjoyed your interpretations. Trism, what'd you use for the drums and bass? The tone and groove sound real nice and tight.

I'm lucky enough to have access to a pretty extensive Kontakt library, in this case it was the Scarbee Rickenbacker Bass along with Superior Drummer 2.0

I liked your entry, by the way! Very dark and moody, an excellent take on the source.

And @Silverpool; I liked the 16-bit take on the tune, though the opening was a bit busy with the bitcrushed cymbals overriding a lot of the soundscape. The track did suffer a little from repetition as there weren't many variations between the different 'sections' of the song. A cool bonus entry though.

I've been hearing some good things about Superior Drummer 2, and I was looking at EZ Drummer, they both sound good. I wish the MIDI packs were compatible with other software, because I was going to get some of those while they were on sale. I've got the Scarbee Bass, so I'll need to take a look at that, it sounds real nice.
