Yeah, I think NOC or PYR would be a good fit for you. Metroid Prime: Hunters has a unique remix of VS Metroid Prime, and there's a lot of "Dark World" type stuff from Prime 2 that would fit with it being the dark sector. If you want more material for arps/hooks there's Luminoth Energy Controller and Sanctuary Fortress Depths.

Halo - source tune selection This list isn't all-inclusive, it's just popular or interesting/remix-able tracks from across the franchise. Halopedia is Halo's most popular wiki, with some Halo staff collaborating with them and vice-versa, and is a good/accurate source for looking into its music. In particular 2, 3, ODST, and Reach have most of their songs combined into suites on the soundtrack, which is broken down in detail on the wiki. Resources: Rampancy.net has a lot of Halo MIDI / sheet music in addition to vgmusic. A large number of Halo's early synths, drum machine sources, etc. have been figured out similarly to Metroid Prime. A spreadsheet is available here. Halo: Combat Evolved (and its remaster Halo CE Anniversary) From 2001 (2011), by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori Ambient / electronic / modern classical / rock / world Truth and Reconciliation Suite (Anniversary ver.) Enough Dead Heroes (Anniversary ver.) Perilous Journey (Anniversary ver.) A Walk in the Woods (Anniversary ver.) The Gun Pointed at the Head of the Universe (Anniversary ver.) Under Cover of Night (Anniversary ver.) Covenant Dance (Anniversary ver.) The Maw (Anniversary ver.) On a Pale Horse (Anniversary ver.) Suite Autumn (Anniversary ver.) Halo (main/title theme; Anniversary ver.) "The Lost Song" (named "Arborea Above" for Anniversary ver.) Halo 2 (Vol 1, Vol 2) and its remaster Halo 2 Anniversary From 2004 (2014), by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori; guitar by Steve Vai Electronic, rock, alternative rock, world Halo Theme Mjolnir Mix (Anniversary ver.)Peril (Anniversary ver.) Heretic, Hero (Anniversary ver.) Impend (Anniversary ver.) In Amber Clad (Anniversary ver.) Heavy Price Paid (Anniversary ver.) Earth City (Anniversary ver.) The "Arbiter's theme" (first shows up in Prologue, or in Anniversary as Second Prelude) is very popular and gets reprised in most future games. Mombasa Suite (Anniversary ver. broken up into Skyline, Moon Over Mombasa and Africa Suite) Unforgotten (Anniversary ver.) Delta Halo Suite (Anniversary ver broken up into Only a Star, Only the Sea and This Glittering Band) Reclaimer (Anniversary ver.) Halo 3 From 2007, by Martin O'Donnell, Michael Salvatori, and C. Paul Johnson. Less rock and more orchestral. Remixes a lot of Halo 1 and 2 songs, which is broken down here. Luck Sierra 117 Suite: Released / Wild Life / Another Walk This is the Hour (in-game version of Halo 3's original trailer music, Finish the Fight) One Final Effort Halo Suite: Greatest Journey / Flood Rising / Halo Finale Wake Me When You Need Me Halo Wars From 2008, by Stephen Rippy - the Ensemble Studios composer/producer who also scored the Age of Empires and Age of Mythology games. Halo Wars is an RTS and the only non-FPS game in this list. Features a mix of more ambient/"cerebral" tracks during gameplay, some similar to Halo 1 (with short piano/guitar hooks), while cutscene tracks are more orchestral/arranged-feeling. Spirit of Fire Money or Meteors Just Ad Nauseam Flip and Sizzle Action Figure Hands Insignificantia (All Sloppy/No Joe) - the game's credits track. In-game it also accompanies a final goodbye/thank you message from Ensemble Studios, who got shut down after Wars was made. Halo 3: ODST From 2009, by Martin O'Donnell, Michael Salvatori, and C. Paul Johnson. ODST has a high-concept noir/mystery theme where you navigate an Afrofuturist metropolis in Kenya; has a lot of jazz/industrial influence, and uses FM8 a lot in its synth production. Overture - Yet Alone (0:00-1:53, main menu music) The Rookie - Strong Silent Type, Postpartum (0:00-3:08, 3:08-4:59) More Than His Share - Become the Hunted. (3:14-5:08) Asphalt and Ablution - Still Grounded (0:00-1:44) The Office of Naval Intelligence - Uphill, Both Ways (2:31-4:07) Skyline - Air Traffic Control (4:35-7:02) Light at the End - Another Rain (0:00-2:32) Finale - From the Ashes (Reprise) and Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (0:00-1:12, 1:12-4:55) Halo Reach From 2010, by Martin O'Donnell, Michael Salvatori, and C. Paul Johnson. Reach is a gritty prequel and is less high-concept than ODST, but still uses a lot of FM8 for its ambient/synth production. Overture - Swift, Strong, Brave (0:17-2:04, main menu music) Winter Contingency - Lone Wolf (3:10-5:33) Just about all of ONI: Sword Base is unique dark synth/rock tracks, save for the end, which uses strings/choir. Tip of the Spear - Unreconciled (0:00-3:09, briefly uses the "Halo" theme. It's also in 11/8!) Most of New Alexandria is strings and dark synth. Halo 4 (Vol 1, Vol 2) From 2011, by Neil Davidge (from Massive Attack) and Kazuma Jinnouchi (composer for Metal Gear Solid 4). Tracks rarely get grouped into suites from 4 onwards; Vol 1. is all Neil Davidge (sans "117"), Vol 2. is mostly Kazuma. Legacy Haven Nemesis To Galaxy Immaterial 117 (intended to be a "theme of Master Chief") Revival Pylons Escape Convoy Armour / This Armour Mantis Halo 5 From 2014, all Kazuma Jinnouchi. I personally really like 5's arrangements - a lot of them show a technical understanding of Halo's "DNA" without being straight remixes. "Unearthed" explores a couple basslines from Halo 3, cutscene songs like "Keeper of Secrets" use repeating trumpet stabs similarly to the cutscene arrangements for Halo Wars, etc. It also uses u-he's "The Dark Zebra" expansion for Zebra2, so some later tracks have a very The Dark Knight / Inception sort of feel. Halo Canticles (main menu music) Light Is Green (James Bond-esque motif that gets used a lot) Argent Moon Meridian Crossing Unearthed (this uses basslines from Halo 3's "Sierra 117 Suite" tracks and "The Covenant" tracks) Warrior World Covenant Prayers Advent (this reprises "Move Mountains", from Reach's "The Pillar of Autumn" suite) Walk Softly (reprise of "Mantis" from Halo 4) Crypt Osiris Suite, Act 3 ("sub-tracks" were never given individual names) Osiris Suite, Act 4 (see above) Halo Infinite From 2021, by Gareth Coker, Joel Corelitz and Curtis Schweitzer Infinite is kind of the "anti-5" musically - there's a lot more direct remixes and the instrumentation/arrangements are very conservative, mostly using strings, choir and ambient synth. It's the Halo 3 to 5's 1 or 2, in a way. This is partially because Infinite is open-world so the music cues behave closer to Minecraft, Breath of the Wild, etc. in-game. Halo 5's level/encounter design is very "arcadey" by comparison. Zeta Halo Gbraakon Escape (light "airy" reprise of the Halo theme) Ransom Keep Through the Trees (modulation/remix of "A Walk in the Woods", from Halo 1) Endless Adjutant Resolution Nexus Never Tell Me The Odds (modulation/inspired by On a Pale Horse) Hunter's Dance

Hey all, I wanted to put feelers out for a Metroid Fusion EP/album. I have a more specific tracklisting/direction in mind than the Halo album idea, which is meant to be more franchise-wide. Timeline/Production - I'm gauging interest now and would plan on formally starting production in January/February 2026. - The plan would be to have it out-the-door right around Metroid Fusion's 25th anniversaries; either November 17th, 2027 (US) or February 14th, 2028 (JP). - For visual assets, I can be in charge of it unless someone else wants to be, along with my girlfriend helping with key art illustration. - The album art will probably be split down the middle, because... - The album title will be something like Metroid Fusion: Sister Sectors. Remix Guidelines - This is similar to Double Wing Damage where there's a "traditional" half and an experimental half, however there are no restrictions on genre. Jazzy Sector 1, Breakcore Sector 3, etc. are all fair game. - The "traditional" part is that the first half's arrangements would be dominated by the source tune. Small references to other sources are fine. - The experimental or "Depths" tracks should fuse the Sector tracks with other sources, as only a few "Depths" songs exist in-game, and only one (Sector 4) is exclusive to that area. Tracklisting/Direction: The album would use "slots" and be 13-15 tracks total, with an A-side and a "Depths" side, like how Metroid games have expanded "depths" areas on revisit. Examples include Brinstar Red Soil's area or Phendrana Drifts Depths. Side A 1-1. Intro (I have something in mind for this) 1-2. Sector 1 (SRX) 1-3. Sector 2 (TRO) 1-4. Sector 3 (PYR) 1-5. Sector 4 (AQA) 1-6. Sector 5 (ARC) 1-7. Sector 6 (NOC) 1-8. Optionally there can be an interlude, probably referencing the Restricted Zone. ("Warning: No entry without authorization!") Side B (Depths) Not every Sector has "depths" music, so incorporating other sources is encouraged here. These can be area bosses, adjacent areas, etc. Some examples of non-Fusion Metroid combos could be NOC (a dark area) with VS Dark Samus or ARC (an ice area) with Phendrana Drifts. 2-1. Sector 1 Depths. Related sources: VS Arachnus-X, VS Neo Ridley 2-2. Sector 2 Depths. Related sources: VS Zazabi, Barrier Core-X, VS Nettori / Chozo Statue First Form 2-3. Sector 3 Depths. Related sources: Security Robot B.O.X., Sector 3 Emergency Situation, Crisis Mission 2-4. Sector 4 Depths (Underwater Area). Related sources: VS Serris/Yakuza 2-5. Sector 5 Depths. Related sources: VS Nightmare. (ARC + Nightmare = mix could be named "Cold Sweat"?) 2-6. Sector 6 Depths. Related sources: Security Robot B.O.X. 2-7. We can either end with 2-6 (vibes permitting) or have a dedicated finale/outro track. It would probably involve either Final Mission, Crisis Mission or the Credits theme. Note that the related Fusion sources aren't all-inclusive, and there's a lot of wiggle room. For example the BOX robot and the SA-X fight Samus in multiple sectors, Facing a Huge Reaction plays in like 3-4 sectors, etc. As long as you have a reason for your secondary source it's probably fine, and multiple people having the same secondary source is allowed. If there's interest I was thinking about taking either Sector 2 (TRO), TRO Depths, Sector 6 (NOC), or NOC depths and doing the Dark Samus thing I mentioned above.

Hey all, I wanted to put feelers out for a Halo album since there's not much OCR content for it. Some notes: Timeline/Production - I'm gauging interest now and would plan on formally starting production in January/February 2026. - The plan would be to have it out-the-door right around Halo 3's 20th anniversary date of September 25th, 2007. - For visual assets, I can do a lot of branding and stuff directly. My girlfriend and I team up on art a lot (she illustrates), so we could most likely do key art for it as well. Remix Guidelines - Even though it's Halo 3's release date, sources from all Halo games are allowed. No "original trilogy only", spinoffs permitted, etc. to maximize the number of sources. - Similarly, no restrictions on genre or production style as long as it fits OCR's submission standards. - No tracklisting set in stone. We would just see what gets finished and sequence the tracks by vibes. If needed it could be more than one side/volume/disc. - Related, no "slots", within reason. If 3 people want to all cover Covenant Dance, that's fine, as long as we have more than like 5 tracks. - References to songs other than the source tune, non Halo-tracks, etc. are fine as long as the source is dominant. I have a list of popular/interesting source tunes in my next post, which covers Halo 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 (Infinite), as well as Wars, ODST, and Reach, which are spinoffs. There's a couple other spinoffs I'm not familiar with, mainly Halo Wars 2. Halo's early soundtracks are somewhat unique because they have a lot of Medieval and World influence despite being military sci-fi shooters. Each game tends to lean into a few genres for flavor - Halo 2 incorporates New Age and Alternative Rock, while ODST is a noir-influenced spinoff set in Kenya, so incorporates a lot more piano and saxophone, pounding tribal drums and basslines, etc. Additionally, if anyone is interested but is unfamiliar with the sources, you can give me some info on your style (or even reference tracks) and I can look for some specific source tunes for you.

Help! My Guitar/Bass Tone Sucks!
Master Mi replied to pixelseph's topic in Music Composition & Production
@pixelseph Yo, dude, I finally finished the guitar part and the whole remix project. Gave some of my best shots in terms of my momentary composing, instrumental and mixing skills. So I'm really lookin' forward to your critical opinion of a professional guitarist. )) I posted the full version of my remix in the forum "Post Your Game ReMixes!". The remix is called "Crisis Core - Final Fantasy 7 - Wings Of Freedom (Master Mi Remix)". -
Hey! No problem! It's not like we all have to always give quick replies at all. As to add my track in the tracklist... that's up to you, if you think it's worth it. Maybe I could help on other things too, like web development/design, which I have more experience in than with music making haha. Or with artworks or anything requiring image or video editing, which I do a lot too even though not a pro on these subjects either.

Hey there! Apologies for the delay -- I have been extremely busy as of late, sorting a lot of stuff in my head and dealing with the auditions for an OCR album that recently had a resurgence. ^_^; I'll get back to this in no time! Thank you! Welcome aboard! :D I'm a big fan of creepy stuff, too. :) It's not too late at all. ♥ But if you have a rough WIP you'd like to send me via PM, I'd love to hear it, especially if it's the Boss Theme from Terranigma inspired by Bloody Mary herself! :P And I didn't know that about Terranigma's anniversary, so that would even be more hype! I'm happy to take it for a spin, and you're welcome to go find people to collab with, for both/either performing something or mixing the track. It might be best to do it via OCR's Discord server and ask around, but I plan on trying to master the tracks myself, so if you can find someone to help you do the mixing, that'd be ace. Would you like me to add your track to the list? ^_^ Sure! That'd be great. You can send me a WIP of it, or the complete version of it that is akin to the one you submitted to the Judges' Panel via PM here. It's OK if you cannot do an unmastered WAV of it, tho -- we can work around that somehow. :) Would you like me to add your track to the list? :D @Troyificus@The Coop@Unknown Pseudoartist -- I did receive your individual PMs, and I will get to them and reply ASAP. Once I get my head above water and see the results for the audition tracks come past the 30th of June, I'll be in a better spot to focus-in on your work. :) TYSM for your patience in the meantime, and sending me the mail!
-
I could send you guys a remix I did for Animal Well that's fairly creepy. It would be a slightly different version than the one I submitted to the judges' panel earlier this month though. I can't export an unmastered version without the instances for certain randomized drum loops changing. Probably a couple other instruments other than drums as well.

*NO* Guardian Legend "If Someone Is Reading This..."
pixelseph replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
LT and proph addressed the same issues I have with this remix pretty succinctly, so I don't want to beat the horse much more than we have already. There's a solid foundation in here to build on top of, but there's more personalization to this track that could be realized on your next go around, Bionic. I'll echo proph's comments specifically on stripping this back in length to the core idea (this theme but synthwave with glitchy amen breaks) and explore more with the soundscape. There's a lot of room for filtering the leads and countermelodies, working some sidechain compression on the drums to really push the limits of the groove, and introducing different harmony underneath the melodies here to give more emotional context. Congratulations! I missed an epochal event( I joined OCR sometime in 2010. It was an unexpected discovery! In fact, I got access to the Internet at the end of 2009 (I live in a village). The first thing I started looking for on the Internet was music.. I came across this place through tindeck when I was looking for something like covers for Contra Hard Corps. And Google gave me an artist like "Death by spoon" (AMT). My search led me here. What I found here blew my mind. I didn't even imagine that such a place was possible. Ironically, at that time I didn't find any CHC remixes on OCR, but I did find Sixto sounds, goat, Snappleman, lvl 99 and many others (sorry if I didn't mention you). I've learned a lot here. I'm thankful to this place and people who helped me in advice and direction(Rozovian is the best BOSS ever!) Of course, I had some complaints. Something I still don't understand here) But I liked this place and I hope to come back to this stream.. Thank YOU OCR PEOPLE!

*NO* Sky Shark "El Gran Timoteo Cayendo"
paradiddlesjosh replied to Emunator's topic in Judges Decisions
I'm siding with the other Js on this one, tibonev: the timing is too loose on this track to ignore, particularly in the arpeggios from 1:27 into the guitar solo at 1:39 and the quick shaker hits at around 2:13. I'm on board with your arrangement of the source material and there are some segments like your solo and the octave arpeggio runs (2:26-end) that are well executed; this one could be a slam dunk with the timing adjustments or re-takes in place. prophetik music replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
low opening. intro bass has some movement on it and seems like a dressed-up version of the original. beat and lead start at 0:17. the static tone to the countermelodic material is a bit tiresome - i'd love to hear some decay or movement on it. kick is also kind of blah - i don't hear sidechain, so it doesn't really pop as much as i'd expect for something like this. short break and a loop comes in for the drums at 0:59. again the kick doesn't pop, and the loop itself is kind of obvious, but there's some movement after about 30s which is needed. there's no pad through here either so the arrangement doesn't feel like it's progressing - it's the same as before, with different drums added in. the lack of change to the main instruments, like LT talks about, is also a factor here. 1:27 adds more drums but nothing else changes. same same, we need some progression to the track. even breaks in between the melodic representation can help with that - this is just hammering the melody over and over. 2:00ish is just the countermelodic instrument, and again, this is needing to be mixed up. there's a few different things in the drums but overall this is oatmeal. there's more of the same for a while, with different combinations of the same instruments doing the same thing. so a key problem here is that nothing changes. we don't get personalized melody, altered chords, new keys, new countermelodic material after the initial representation, not anything. this is a sub-one minute loop that's been stretched to over five minutes by way, way too much repetition. i'd seriously consider stripping it back to a minute at most, and then finding new ways to represent the general synthwave idea (which i think works really well, to be fair) in more unique ways. this is just too much repetition, and too much of a static nature.
