  2. I worry some electronic music producers and artists with skill can perceive AI as a threat. AI doing images and music just feels... wrong... AI should only be used as assistants and companions, not a new form of something a user can claim as their own. If something is done by AI, the user should credit it as [AI] work. What is sad is, not many do. Could any DJ or any EDM producer think that AI might produce something as good or better by taken it from other well-known artists?? Can they detect it?? Can they avoid it??. I am neither of these, but even I see the red flag here. I am against using AI as anything other than help and assistance, but how can sites detect what is AI and what isn't??.. AI isn't going anywhere though, I just don't know the lengths it is willing to go at this point.

  4. Thank you to everyone for the thorough criticism. I will definitely keep these things in mind when I have time to give this project another go.
  5. An original piece I first wrote early in 2016 and recently decided to refine for my YouTube channel.
  6. Yes, the whole song remade with the mighty SEGA Genesis.
  7. I have to agree with my fellow Js, the overall mix is overly quiet and needs proper mastering to increase the overall volume while preserving appropriate dynamics. But the bigger issue is the sample quality. The strings (solo cello and string ensemble in particular) are dealbreakingly bad, and they play for so much of the track that they are totally distracting. The brass starting at 3:23 suffers from the same fake uncanny-valley problem. I think there are flutes in there, but as MW said they are almost inaudible. I agree with proph and MW that this is an excellent blending of these themes into a cohesive and emotional story. Clearly a lot of time and heart went into writing this, and it is really a very beautiful composition. I can imagine this with vastly better instrument samples, or better yet live played instruments, and it would be outstanding. But as it stands currently, it sounds like an orchestral mock-up or wip instead of a finished product. I would certainly love to hear it again with better instruments! NO (resubmit)
  8. This was pretty darn good! It was rocking but had more variety than just a guitar and some drums, I particularly like the synth leads near the end. Great job ion this!
  9. This was a certified foot tapper for sure. The energy and drive this remix has is very strong. Excellent job on this one!
  10. Kudos for taking these two iconic tracks and mixing them together so cohesively. It seems so simple yet so creative and clever! This was definitely a banger!
  11. This was fun! The treated vocals fit very well in the mix and give it a unique flavor. Great job on this!
  12. This definitely rocks! I enjoyed the little interlude/transition at around 2:02. I enjoyed the little intro also. Great job on this!
  13. This was quite the powerful solo piano remix! I enjoyed the various styles and melodies and the transitions between there were smooth. Great piano playing and great job on this!
  14. This was incredibly unique. Honestly if I hadn't seen the source before listening, I probably wouldn't have been able to guess the source of this remix. This mix definitely does a water level justice by making everything kind of swirl together in a liquid-like flow. Kudos!
  15. This was definitely a unique take on the source, and I enjoyed it. Those sharp voxs that came in were wild. Very creative and clever instrumentation on this, great job!
  16. This remix definitely screams water level. Those instruments were absolutely IMMERSED. I enjoyed the timing of the arrangement, it feels very purposeful and creative. This was great!
  17. This was a nice pleasant ride of a remix. It was a nice break and I enjoyed listening to it, kudos!
  18. This definitely would work as the background music for a killer fight scene. It is hard driving and has enough interlude to break up the action. Great job on this!
  19. Hey Vylent! As was mentioned in the live feedback, having space between vocal phrases is helpful for the listener to digest what the vocal passage is doing and saying. The guitar lead in the older version is a great example of creating that space between the vocal phrases! The intro in the older version has a stronger build than the current, though it goes without saying that your vocalist, Sirenstar, is absolutely wiping the floor with the AI vocal. Returning the levels to the drums on the out (as in the older mix) would better realize the vision of getting this mix close to Imagine Dragons. There’s some rough cutting on the vocals around 2:44, and the breath coming in around 2:48, 2:52 is a bit hot. I think that’s most of the feedback from last night! I am really looking forward to hearing this get polished and see it get submitted!!
  20. This remix is a combination of mellow and driving pulse action. I am a big fan of the filtered drums that were cascading around, especially near the end. This was an absolute treat, bravo!
  21. Hello, I'm sharing a wip for a remix of Tomorrow and Tomorrow after receiving live feedback on the OCremix discord. The goal was to mimic the style of Imagine Dragons (ie Warriors) Source from 0:00 - 1:05 of and below is a earlier wip to compare changes I've made (for better or worse)
  22. Gotta say, this has a lot of inspirational moments. You guys definitely hooked me with the beginning given my uhh tendencies for vocals haha. But what I enjoy the most is the rhythmic elements have a lot of flavor to them. They often given the ear not just new patterns, but new textures to enjoy as well. Nice track guys! Even though I've never played a Metroid game or know any of the music, this felt familiar in the best of ways.
  23. I think the change in genres could work - but you'd need to add space for the transition. I have to agree with the other comments here though - would love to see more work from you, especially in that first genre (but I'm biased towards EDM haa haa).
  24. Hey there, I am taking a guess that this is more a 1:1 cover of the sources Theme of Aya / Eve's Theme, in combination? I will say, I do like some of your new instrument choices, but I am...unsure if this is presented for feedback or as a possibility to submit to OCR? If it is for the latter rather than the former, the unfortunate thing is, because a lot of this sounds like an 'upgrade' to the sources, and not a cover or a remix, it would not be eligible. Your picking of the new instruments is on-point, but because you're using straight rips from the source, and this is not pure MIDI and sampling to make your own spin on the sources, it would get rejected in Panel. I would suggest--nay, encourage--you to explore different options in making these covers more expansive, and then treading into absolutely new territory with a remix. Firstly, in making a 1:1 cover, I would stick to a single source, because this Parasite Eve one is layering two sources together, and notes are clashing (as in, hitting sour notes and sounding dissonant throughout). Some of it is the instrument choices playing together, and some of it is simply that the two sources don't match in key. So I think it's in your best interest, especially if you're just starting out in making music, to use ONE source, and play around with it. Add chords, take away elements, play with SOLELY the MIDI of the piece, and change every instrument, and see what shakes loose. :) It'd do you a lot of good, as well as sharing your journey with others in a workshop. Those are my suggestions, but this is a great starting point and a good stepping stone.
  25. I really like the song and the mix. The only critique I'd have (which isn't much) is that there is a midrange where the frequencies are just a little low or there isn't a lot of instrumentation (maybe over-filtered bass and percussion to give room for synths?) It's just slightly noticeable but not huge. I think overall your dnb music is fabulous and I really hope you do more vgm remixes. We need more dnb imo and you have a really good knack for it.
  26. Agreed that the kick's way too loud and distorting the track. Will echo Hemo's comments that this is a fun cover, it just doesn't present much difference with the original song, so there's very little to distinguish it as a creative interpretation of it, at least from the lens of OCR's arrangement standards. Feels more like a traditional remix, so maybe it samples the original's chippy-style instrumentation, I'm not sure. I did enjoy the other instrumentation surrounding the chip though, so this is a successful cover aside from those kicks!
  27. Opens up sparsely with the piano to set the stage for the strings at :24. I like the tone of these samples to start. Let's see if this branches off anywhere interesting. The feeling's a bit stilted over time, but still retaining my interest about 1:15 in, and then things subtly pivot. Not sure if some of the quiet vox padding is slightly & briefly off-key in places, but it could have just been my ears playing tricks on me. Things drop off some at 1:44, and this section's not a bad idea in principle, but it didn't need to go on until 2:14, it could have dropped a few bars and gotten back to the melody more quickly. At 2:14, we get another iteration of the source melody and at this point, the stilted sequencing/timing of the leads and piano was standing out more and I was wanting the arrangement to have more dynamic contrast and more humanization. Speak of the devil, there's an attempt to vary up the presentation with some kicks at 3:39. The beats were too boomy, slightly off-time and had 0 synergy with the other instrumentation, so I was glad they didn't last too long. Pretty anti-climactic end to that theme though, unfortunately. 4:06 changed over to "Theme of Aya". Everything's still very robotic-sounding; somewhat understandable given the source material, but there's more depth to the sounds in the original, whereas these lead sounds are very thin/tinny and the beats are very metronome-like. Be sure to watch the ending cutting off abruptly. There's room to achieve a richer texture with your instrumentation; cool source tune choices, regardless, and I liked hearing your rendition. Lots of room for growth and development, I hope you keep at it!
