  1. Hopefully I can answer with everyone being at MAG, they can correct me if they need to when they get back. It wouldn't infringe on your "copyrights" but would infringe on the publisher of the original composition, so for everything to be above-board you would need to license the composition from the original publisher. OCR releases the remixes for free in a non-exclusive way, for use in media that is not monetized. To monetize a remix as part of a product (either by OCR or by another entity) without appropriately licensing the material, would infringe on the publisher's rights and they would be entitled to take action against the product. So in short OCR doesn't do it, and you probably shouldn't either, without licensing. Ask that dev if they'll cover the licensing fee in addition to giving you your payment (not take it from your cut). But if they're trying to get remixes of existing music over twitter that they can just use in their game, they're probably not being too ethical about it. Tho it's not for me to judge.

  2. Is it that time of the year again where non-American members take over the forums?

  3. Welcome to the Album Thread for Final Fantasy VIII: Collision Course. The concept for this album stretches back to 2010 where a tracklisting and title were chosen for what one would have dreamed would be a great Final Fantasy VIII album. With your help, I'm hoping to make that a reality. Right now is the recruitment phase, so if you are a posted ReMixer, feel free to make a claim -- first come, first served on any source. If you are not a posted ReMixer, you are still welcome to join the album roster if you can produce high quality mixes, or are capable of producing a high quality arrangement and structure, then delivering your stems for mixing/mastering. Please submit an audition. Mixing/Mastering would be handled by me for anyone who requests it. There is no genre restriction, however please give much consideration to preserving the spirit of the source. tldr: first come, first served for posted remixers other artists, please submit an audition! mixing/mastering available on request if it's an emotional piano source, I reserve the right to bounce back your gangsta dubstep screamo mix Also if you're going to claim something like The Extreme, keep in mind it's gotta be excelsior TRACKLIST ReMixer Works in Progress posted here First Half Liberi Fatali (claimed by HeavenWraith) Balamb Garden (claimed by Chernabogue, Tuberz McGee, Furilas) Blue Fields (claimed by Chris Porter) Don't Be Afraid (claimed by Tuberz McGee) Find Your Way (claimed by Wiesty) The Landing (claimed by Sagnewshreds) SeeD (claimed by Manji) Breezy (claimed by RiverSound) Force Your Way (claimed by Ivan Hakštok) Waltz For The Moon (claimed by XPRTNovice) The Man with the Machine Gun (claimed by Gario) Julia (claimed by Geoffrey Taucer) Roses and Wine (claimed by Brandon Strader) Junction (claimed by DjjD) The Mission (claimed by jnWake) Only A Plank Between One and Perdition (claimed by shadowpsyc) Slide Show Pt. 2 (claimed by bluelighter) The Stage is Set (claimed by Larsec) Movin' (claimed by fxsnowy) Martial Law (claimed by JJT) Succession of Witches (claimed by Vled Tapas ft. 6. Site-wide mutiny, take-over.. let's do it, though I am American, so I hope that doesn't mean you're excluding me from the fun. We should schedule the Anti-MAG party each year for those of us who can't go or don't go anymore. In fact we should have our own thread. Only problem is I'm almost 100% sure the negative nellies would have it closed and deleted, despite not even supposed-to-being-here while they're at MAG.

  7. What's really interesting is that the idea to master the whole album was shot down by G-Mixer because he didn't want anyone messing with his limiter It's a great album anyway.

  8. Wow... really what a surprise.. 23 entries. Isn't it usually closer to 50? I guess since people had to collab, half of them became collab partners, haha.. That's pretty funny. But cool at the same time.

  11. I'm not a fan of RMS for certain things, for sure, same with LU measurements. I only mentioned the CALM Act and Mastered for iTunes because Brandon inquired as to why someone would want a ceiling under -0.8dB--I only mentioned it as an example of a legitimate specification where you would want to control your peak values. As you've mentioned, RMS doesn't inform us about how loud it will sound--but I think also pushing for an RMS value can be a very messy way of asserting a total dynamic range for a project. That's why I try to encourage people to use their ears and even more, I will HEAVILY encourage newbies to use a reference recording. So if you're mixing a rock project, maybe you'll pick a FooFighters' track as a reference--go back and forth and try to achieve the results you enjoy as a music listener. I think there are a lot of great opportunities to learn from using a reference track over just adhering to a guideline.
