  3. I love this. Normally I find bluegrass to have only a few gears, but this shows some of the versatility and additions to bluegrass that I haven't heard before. The outtro is brilliant, as Jarel says.

  4. Thanks for the glowing review, DJP... and I still love listening to your old bluegrass-caricature remix of the Bubble Bobble theme. I feel like pointing out that, although this is my 5th posted remix, it was the first one I ever submitted to OCR. In other words, my apologies to all if the production is a little rough!

  6. Only thing that would make it perfect would be if you could legally load more games onto it.

  7. The accessibility is the only plus, and in my experience, the folks who are most interested in games over 20 years old are willing to put in a little bit of effort to get set up. It's a mush worse deal if you consider that the games loaded into it are a fixed list, and with a Pi, at only a slightly greater total cost, you can put anything you want on it, including games from a dozen different systems. There's the legality issue, of course--I'm not sure how many people this would appeal to who already have legal copies of the games in question on a cartridge, e-shop purchase, etc. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense for some people, I just think the overall excitement level is overblown considering what else is already out there, and has been for years. Also, the controllers aren't "fully" compatible with Wii and Wii U. They play Virtual Console games only. And of course, they're only 4 buttons, so effectively only NES virtual console games. I do wonder if you can use a Wii Classic Controller on the Classic Edition NES.

  8. Hello, I'm the Nikanoru, retro gamer extraordinaire. I've been creeping the OC Remix website for a couple of years now, and after I downloaded my 12th remix album, I thought that I had run out of excuses not to say hi. I am a bit of an audiophile and although I am very musically inclined, I seem to have neither the direction nor the time to pursue music these days, aside from listening to it and dreaming that one day I could play like some of the other artists out there. Speaking of which, I would like to contribute with a few tracks of my own one day - any advice for this noobie composer would be appreciated. I like any music that invokes thought or feeling, whether it be acoustic, metal, symphonic, ambient, or just plain awesome. Great to be here!

  9. I usually never comment on mixes, but this sounds really sick! Just a few thoughts. Compress lead guitar just a bit (1:7 or 2:0:0 ratio) and maybe (and I mean MAYBE) increase the level by very tiny bit (maybe) Im not sure how you mixed the record, but maybe reduce the vol on the piano by 1 or 2db Make bass a wee bit louder. (its probably just me, but) Add a subtle room verb to the entire track. (the mix down in a spacial sense sounds really artificial/unnatural and awkward like everything was done in a different room.) This seems a bit short for OCremix as said. Add an minute more of music, you could do something dramatic like a key change progression or build up, or something to flip the listeners heads. You had something going for a good transition where you ended.

  10. Aye. Really nice tones and guitar playing, but the levels between the lead (guitar) and the backing (piano) is off, where the lead is not at the forefront of the mix. If we're talking about OCR standards here, the arrangement is probably too short and too repetitive, there would need to be more of a definitive structure and some more expansion to your concept, but for a cover it sounds real nice and accomplishes its purpose. Nice stuff!

  11. Nice 5/4. Such a warm mix, I like it. Some notes: - I think the piano is mixed too loudly in this. It might sound better playing backup to the guitar. - Drum samples are alright but they feel a little loopy. Different change ups and fill would add some spice to this. - You did just loop like a minute worth of material to 2 minutes, add something to the second minute (strings, pad, horns?, whatever) Overall good stuff though

  12. Just listened to this and thought it was sad there were no comments. While Dire Dire Docs covers and mixes are ubiquitous, I did find this one to be uniquely enjoyable. Nice work.
