  2. My remix and remake of 'Lurelin Village', from the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. While this game didn't have as many memorable music pieces as other Zelda games, it definitely had a few that stuck out to me, and this is one of them. The second time around, I added in some themes from Kokiri Forest, as well as Zelda and Aryll. Hope you can relax and enjoy! Ambience from CosyClothes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7J_pYhCK04 -Juke

  3. Congrats everyone on some good mixes, and especially Chalis for winning this round! My apologies for not getting in my vote/feedback within the time period. I’ve been away on vacation since Thursday with a group of friends. Thanks to everyone who voted for my track, despite it being the least conservative of the group. Lol Had a lot of fun arranging the track, so I’ll probably kick it over to the WIP boards.

  4. Yeah Zorrakh's mix was very good but was also very close to the BOTW version of the tune. In my mind it would be mnp if that were the source, but not for this. A couple of people commented on the production on my piece, which was actually very simple. It was just Superior Drummer (with very static midi values to make it sound more electronic) and then a bunch of Hybrid 3 presets that blended decently to my ear. Very little EQ or saturation otherwise. Oh, and a little bit of chipsounds and electric guitar. Production-wise it was probably the easiest mix I've ever done.

  5. @HoboKa Thanks! That's on me for not making a mix more faithful to the source tune. I guess I got a little caught up in it and lost sight of the goal. But at least I learned an important lesson AND had fun (which doesn't happen very often). I am grateful to have a place to do these kinds of exercises, and I've definitely gotten some mileage out of it, so thanks for hosting!

  6. Experimental is fine, but yeah, it can be hard to pull off. Redg manages to pull it off: However, in this case, I do agree with @Cubeshark that this is a bit too sparse. You may want to add something to fill in the gaps, like a glitched drum loop to add interest, a pad to create some sort of tonal filler, or a bass to glue the mix together. Near the end of the mix, the glassy pad you had was doing that job. Something else you may want to consider is finding a structure; I typically want to be able to skip 15 seconds forward and notice a forward change in something, whether it's faster hi hats, more bass, less drums, etc., rather than just a change. Something where you can tell whether you're in an intro, a "chorus", a breakdown section, an outtro, etc.

  7. Ooh boy, those polyrhythms are throwing me for a loop, but I'm loving what I'm hearing. I' really feeling that 3/4 groove for the most part. I also told myself after the previous round I would mix things up and go with synth sounds only, but I don't think that'd quite work for this.

  8. Nice entry too Zorrakh, I know you didn't get much love this round, but it was a killer remix, leastwise EDIT) Also, technically you made more vote points than I did because I merely benefited from that voter-bonus. If you voted you'd be at 6 points, if that's any small comfort. Lol. And big thanks to everyone who came down to MnP and participated. Reminds me of the old days when I got 5-6 entries per round on average lolz.

  9. Congrats Chalis! And great job everyone, I enjoyed listening to all the entries and people's interpretations of such a short theme.

  10. You have some really nice parts in this song. I particularly liked the part starting around 1:41. In general I think the hardest thing about experimental songs is differentiating between something truly experimental vs. something incorrect. For instance, the effect with the delay feedback at the end was definitely interesting, but I could hear it switch on with a little pop and I felt it didn't really accompany the song well. Also, I feel that even though the original song was minimal and sparse and that's probably what you were going for, you could have done a lot to add to it with some extra layers like a nice synth pad or some glitch drums, even something quiet and consistent in the background can really go a long way. You did this somewhat with the field recordings, but overall I think you just needed a bit more supporting elements to tie everything together rather than sounds scattered around the composition. I could really hear the potential in the part I previously mentioned at 1:41, I just wish it was fleshed out a bit more. Hopefully that all makes sense. Your song definitely has potential and like you said it was pretty experimental, but I personally think that experimentation can be accepted more in music when it is contrasted against normal things.
