The People's Remix Competition 421 PRCv18-02 Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Last year ended great with a good PRC418 followed by an even bigger PRC419 Anniversary round. The winners of those rounds, TheVideoGamer and TheVodouQueen both selected a source for this round. If you use this, an account is required. If you don't want to use ThaSauce, please upload the song somewhere else and post a download link in this thread. I recommend Soundcloud, don't forget to allow downloads to enable me to upload the song at ThaSauce. I will keep using ThaSauce as the place where all songs are located. If you want to use ThaSauce, the following steps should be done. Click http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC421. Click the 'You are not logged in' button in the upper right. Click on 'register' (at the bottom). Read the terms and click 'I agree to these terms'. If you don't agree with them, upload the song somewhere else and post a download link as mentioned above (by doing that, you allow me to upload the song at ThaSauce. Continue the process by filling in your information. You will get a question to confirm that you're not a robot. Here are some possible answers: Name a compo: PRC Who organizes One Hour Compo: Starla Name a ThaSauce subdomain: compo.thasauce.net Who created Mega Mans: Capcom A confirmation mail will be send. There might be some issues with it (meaning that you don't get it), if that is the case, upload the song somewhere else as described above. Once registered, login with your username and password, go to the mentioned page and submit the song. If you want submit two or more songs you can create multiple ThaSauce accounts or upload the song somewhere else and post the download link. After uploading your song, please check if your song plays and can be downloaded and played without problems. Only upload MP3 files. PRC instructions The deadline is Saturday February 6th 2021 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the ThaSauce page for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread. +3 Days. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. The winner of this round may select the source for PRC423, the round after next round. The winners of PRC418 and PRC419, TheVideoGamer and TheVodouQueen both can participate by remixing the source selected by the other or remixing both in one song. If they don't participate with a song (or submit a bonus song) they have a vote which counts twice. You can find the full rules list at this page as well. The Multiple Source Rounds Rules apply. @HoboKa Well, it's sure be fun for me at least. I've enjoyed hanging around these compos (MnP and PRC) the past few months than I ever did lurking about in the remix workshop, giving out 2-bit advice. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy letting folks know I like their stuff, but always felt impersonal, distant. The little community here, I feel like I have a place. As that guy who doesn't seem to know how to compose without at least 3 tracks of stringed instruments XD. Hang in there, boss. At the end of the day, we're all folks staring at our computers, making music and sharing it with folks who could be robots for all we know (my serial number is #64813490, in case you're wondering.) Take a breather, do something nice for yourself.

Hot dang, I've never heard either of these games/songs (I dunno how the heck I missed the Lufia series growing up.) Gonna study these sources, see which I feel like working with. Not sure I could mix the two, but that's not outta the question.

Got something submitted! It's not exactly a joke entry, but I certainly thought of TheVideoGamer when I made it. My first memory of his work was his entry in MnP 117... Let's just say that my remix sails in the morning.

@The Vodoú Queen After hearing your tune I already hate the fact that most of my equipment is ~900km away. @TheVideoGamer And this tune makes me wish my loop station wasn't with "most of my equipment". Great choices! Hopefully I'll get something done this time.

Speaking of Thasauce... did ya'll know they do a one hour composition thingy each thursday? Like, they provide a picture prompt for the compo, then give you one hour 20 min to make a song and upload it. I've found it a fun composing exercise. @anachromium Man, if I could, I would--but it's been so many years since I've touched acoustic guitar or flute I would probably fail pretty hard on it without substantial practice. Kinda wish I never sold my old band flute TBH. Acoustic guitar also needs new strings. @TheVideoGamer Woot. \o/ I mean mine's pretty experimental, but I thank you specifically for the inspiration. ♥

Even though it's too late for this competition, I'd really like to do an acoustic guitar + trombone version of this theme, if someone was interested in a collab? I got the feeling that this instrumentation could tribute the original feeling really well.

Hey there. TYSM for the congrats guys, but TBH, it's all of you who should get the biggest congrats. Those were some damned good songs, and I really did have a terrible time picking and choosing amongst the lot. No one song, to me, was "bad", even if a WIP / old project. So congrats all around. @Dextastic TY for the deeper bit of criticism on Catamitus. I'll take it into account with the rest and possibly do a remaster or fidget with it before publishing it fully. @HoboKa It's no problem at all. Was my sincerest pleasure to try to give everyone in-depth critique! Hope they're at least useful... I noticed some questions came up about my work, two of which I'll try to address here: None of the songs, even Halcyon Hare Stage were done using anything but BandLab and whatever SFX, EQ, VSTs, loops and samples are available on there. XD There were no live recordings or using other devices to meld sounds together--hope that doesn't burst anyone's bubble. D: But my deepest TYs for thinking the songs were good enough to sound live recorded! Still think I need better kit to make the sounds less issue-riddled where they do (like some of the clipping or out-of-syncness some of you pointed out,) but perhaps when I get some money I'll move onto a 'real' DAW like FL Studio, see where that takes me. They were all different songs. The one that one was MMX6's Rainy Turtloid (Inami Temple) Stage. Halcyon Hare was an original song I made, just to have the sound aesthetic like a Mega Man X game, and Catamitus was the remix of the Castlevania song 'Aquarius'. Hope that cleared up any confusion. Again, thanks so much for the critiques and the thumbs up. The positive vibes made me blush and the constructive criticisms were super good and thought-provoking. I'll try to take them onboard in future projects. And I'll try to pick something real good for the next PRC! :3

Big Update!! I am going to be taking a break from MnP and am working to delegate all responsibilities to @TheVideoGamer and to a lesser extend @Bundeslang. I will be on standby for emergencies. [Wtf was I on??] Though I aim to spend less time at OCR, as I love the community, but I don't like how high the Quality Bar is and feel that the Judge Panel could step it down a notch for the less skilled hobbyists. Also this blinding white light of the forum Theme is really bad for my eyes. Being near-sighted (yeah, I use glasses...but I might be at risk for Glaucoma) and with constant Allergy problems, it's just not good for me lol. [Clearly, I was conflating the issue here. Some of it is true, but...I was dancing around the crux of the matter. Most likely, it is background noise to other issues I am dealing with. Double apology there.] [More Apropos] I have come to realize that I am poor at handling stressful situations and I lost my cool, to say the least, with one of our participants. I don't want this to be a pattern and I need to get back on counseling and healthier self-care routines. It sucks, but it is what it is. Said individual told me they've forgiven me. However, I still don't feel good about it. I have thoroughly enjoyed hosting MnP and being a huge part of the Compo Community. Wish the best to you guys
