Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Congratulations to Souperion for winning MnP129 and HarlemHeat360 for winning the MnP130 Free Round special! As a result of the special, which involved doing whatever the hell you like, Souperion moved his source pick to this round, which also contains HarlemHeat's pick, since he/she won the special. As a result, they both chose their own source for this month's MnP source! Here's Souperion said about his pick: "Sector 4 Underwater Area from Metroid Fusion. A hauntingly lovely piece which gave me pause the first time I encountered it in game. It's slow, flowing, and delicately simple. Might work out well for a double dose round, too." - Souperion GAME: Metroid Fusion (GBA) SOURCE: Underwater Area VIDEO: And here's what HarlemHeat360 had to say about his/her's pick: "So recently I took a solo MnP (so to say lol) run at Chrome Gadget here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eacpzYZqmvc If you know anything about my mixes, I really love vocals and I'll add them in anything if I see the opportunity LOL. Unfortunately there was just so much here that I wanted to feel here and I couldn't fit vocals in where I wanted to! So I said forget it, I'll just make the melody more prominent instead. Maybe I went too far lol. I wanna see what you guys do with it instead! Go ahead and feel the chrome of the gadget!" - HarlemHeat360 GAME: Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Sega Genesis) SOURCE: Chrome Gadget VIDEO: Deadline: 18th March @ 1PM Closing Date: 20th March @ 1PM Vote Ends: 27th March @ 1PM MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism submit: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP131 MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines Rules for Picking a Source: All video game sources are limited to the 6th generation of video game consoles and earlier. This was due to community consensus, where people preferred to remix more retro games, than newer games. 6th generation includes: GameCube, Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast. I'm now restricting big name franchises (Such as Zelda and Mega-Man) to one source per year. This is to encourage more obscure games, that not many people will know about to be picked. Make sure you provide me both a video and a MIDI of the source in question. Note: This is subject to change. Also keep an eye out, if any special rounds come into fruition. Guidelines: Modifying the Source is fine, so long as it doesn't sound completely separate from its original intent. If you're gonna do a genre change, at least make sure the original aspect of the source is not lost. Tempo changes are fine, as long as it's not a big change. I'm talking like, going from 80bpm to 140bpm. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max), and submitted as a MP3 file. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. Try to avoid making quality-based comments on submissions until after the Round is concluded. It is to avoid a Bias in Votes. MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make people's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)1 point

https://youtu.be/idzdVGPMlBs It's not too often I decide to make a remix/cover of songs from video games I never played. Trials of Mana is one of them, however I have been playing it like 10 minutes on a SNES emulator which I really don't count as legit playing. What I have been doing though, is listening to the soundtrack of it, which is truly amazing! Powell is a song that has a lot of potential for a great synthwave track, I used some of it, but to make it justice I probably would have to do 5 more versions. And man, does it make me wanna play the remake of Trials of Mana! Before I started the work with Powell I watched a lot of gameplay from both the old Seiken Densetsu 3 as well as the remake Trials of Mana. It's easier to create music if you've got some initial story or a moment to focus your mind on. What I'm looking for is to get feelings, emotions, vibes and link those to an existing memory, or in this case rediscover long gone memories. This song actually took me back to a completely different game when I had the long summer breaks as a kid. We had this attic dedicated to storage for seasonal clothing (winter clothes, summer clothes, you name it), but we also had an old CRT TV, large, and really old (1980-85 ish), but color screen and perfect for connecting your SNES console to it. I think it was the summer break between 5th and 6th grade when I played the RPG Terranigma a lot. And I remembered just how I felt sitting up there solo, trying to pave way further into the fantastic story of that game. That feeling of freedom, just diving into the story of your game, no worries of taking too much time playing, your friends just a phone call away. The exact same feelings bubbles up while listening to Powell, it's really amazing actually, how music can drag long gone memories and feelings of specific moments to the surface once again no matter how far away in time they was made. This is remix is dedicated to all those memories, just waiting to be dragged out of your brain beam making you feel good and rediscover memories you maybe didn't know you had in storage. /Neon X1 point

Was thinking of combining DKC3 with the Fusion theme. But I'm a bit torn on that, b/c it's outside of the compo's rules. So I might do a YouTube "Water themed" montage later. I just don't see a good connection between Sonic 3 Chrome Gadget and Fusion Water Area. Maybe there is a way to combine them, but it'd probably have to be an EDM tune of some form. Edit Also, thanks for humoring me and listening to my maudlin display. I'll try to keep my chin up for the rest of the year and not burden the chat with my bullshit. U da best1 point

Welp, I'm stoked for that Fusion source tune at least. Just gonna warn you guys that I've decided to not renew my Composer Cloud East/West Play and am going to be fiddling about with other orchestral libraries like VSCO 2 and stuff. Might grab some newer IK Multimedia stuff, idk. E/W Play is just too janky (usually post-render, which makes it even more frustrating!) on my current PC build and/or DAW to justify spending $25 CAD a month, whilst I'm on Disability Benefits ha. Poor Hobo-Itis. Knock on wood that I don't actually become my name-sake. Maybe I'll change my name to HoboSka and start buskin' around.1 point
