  1. Am I the only person who absolutely loved the gameplay mechanics of FFX-2? In any case, I would also fix the plot of Other: M to keep Samus as a strong female lead. I didn't mind the gameplay of the game at all, it just needed some serious help in the writing.
  2. I've got a four-month old son, and love being a dad!
  3. Yeah, it's incredibly rare for composers of concerted music to make a living solely off of those efforts -- one could likely fit the number of people in that category on a single sheet of paper. It's much more common for someone to hold a composition professorship as their main source of income, and then take on commissions as a means by which to establish why they should maintain the professorship. Consider this: Jeremy Soule, who by any reasonable measure is a successful composer, required a Kickstarter (which you should be supporting!) to write a single full-length piece of concerted music. It's just not something that is profitable in and of itself these days. I could speak at ridiculous length about this topic, but it's ultimately tangential to the thread, so I'll leave it here for now.
  4. Honestly an FFX remake at the scale they've presented isn't appealing to me. I can download the English International edition and play that upscaled on emulator (and, in fact, have). Offer me something beyond that or it's no purchase from me.
  5. I love this -- I'll upvote you before I check out for the night. Can't wait to see it on Steam!
  6. I'll take it off your hands -- will you take a PayPal send from me? PM me details if so.
  7. Happy birthday to both you and Malaki-Legend.sys!
  8. Honestly, 90% of the VO in FFX is great work -- it's just that the one laughing clip is the only thing people think about. Wakka in particular is incredibly well done. The only reason to remake / re-release FFX or FFX-2 is to include all of the bonus bosses from the International Editions of the game. Graphically they look just fine, and upscaled higher-res textures isn't going to make a significant impact. I've said this before in other threads, but will mention it here again: while I highly prefer both FFVI and FFIX, it's FFVII that really needs a graphical update -- the game was released when 3D gaming was in its infancy, and it shows.
  9. This thread makes me almost wish I had the game on Steam instead of 360...alas.
  10. How do you guys race fast enough to win on gold and platinum reliably? This is the first racer in a long time with a challenging world tour mode, and I love it....but must be missing something, I think.
  11. Watch out for the second class period when Stevo shows up wearing an RTFM t-shirt as he hands out quizzes on the syllabus -- be sure to read closely and do your homework!
  12. Dave put it very eloquently above -- this was a man with a lot left to contribute to the arts; he will be missed indeed.
  13. It's obviously not new. I would be very cautious upon receiving it, and if it doesn't work I would register a complaint with Ebay and try to get your money back along any channels you can facilitate that. Good luck!
  14. I'm in St. Paul, OA is near the Mall of America south of town, and MaxFrost is northwest -- there are a few of us close by. Sometime we'll have to introduce ourselves in person...
  15. Out of curiosity, are you in the Twin Cities area, or is that just the nearest convention to you?
  16. Happy birthday, Deia! Looking forward to the next time you make your way into the frozen wastelands of the north...
  17. If anyone would like tenor vocals for this, let me know. I had a great time recording for FF6, and I have a lot of love for the later NES games, as this picture (yep, they work in English) should show: Seriously though, I'd love to collab with someone on this album, and have a good excuse to purchase OA some beer in exchange for letting me use his recording gear -- it's a win win for everyone!
  18. I especially like the line "Now summer's almost over, the weather's growing colder, Approaching frozen sojourns - A Minnesota soldier." Which one of you is from the area? That aside, it's _really_ nice to hear a rap piece with a positive message, as mentioned in the writeup. Well played!
  19. Wow, this was incredible. Amazing use of the original MGS theme as a transition between verses. I am not entirely convinced by the apparent key change before the last chorus...but since it gets us up to the sweetspot for Claire's voice, it's hard to complain about. The first chorus is more reserved, and that was definitely the right call -- hearing the soloist soar during the final few measures creates a powerful climax to the piece. Let's hope this is just the first of many powerful, emotive remixes in 2013 -- well done!
  20. My problem with this game is that I don't want to have to unlock everything. Just give me the game so I can play multiplayer with my friends.
  21. I feel that crits on is just a part of the game. It's like turning the items off in Smash Bros -- you can do it, but you're no longer playing the game that Valve made; merely a custom subset of it. The server doesn't turn off loadouts and doesn't run only 6v6 -- until we hold an event where those are concerns, random crits shouldn't be either.
  22. This year from the inlaws: Puzzle Strike: Shadows Mario Party 9 Fortune Street Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed Rock Band 3 keyboard (with MIDI out for Finale note entry) One year XBL subscription Belgian waffle maker Griddle Waterford pattern ball-pitcher and dinner plates Flamingo color of Fiesta table setting (we have all of them, haha) An incredible haul of candy and food, including the biggest thing of Walker shortbread I've ever seen An entirely new wardrobe of shirts and pants, since I forgot my suitcase at home ...And I'm sure there's more I have forgotten. It took us just under three hours to open all of the presents this year. This list doesn't include things that were specifically for Owen or Addie, either -- just the stuff to me and both of us. Addie's family goes all-in for Christmas, haha. Two Christmas trees set up, the above list doesn't include what Santa brought me (as opposed to direct presents from a named person), etc.
