Contact Info ReMixer Name Stunning Cactus Real Name Colin Betts Email Address Website https://colindbetts.wix.com/colindbetts User ID 32605 Submission Information Name of game arranged Kirby’s Adventure (NES) Name of arrangement Ride the Rainbow Warp Star Name of song arranged Rainbow Resort (a.k.a. “Level Map Select of LEVEL 7”) Link to original soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dnVcKSqxU8 Link to my remix: Comments: I fell in love with the haunting melody the first time I heard it (which, oddly enough, wasn’t from the original soundtrack, but from a fan-made game that featured a remix of it). I didn’t really intend on remixing it to the extent that I did; I was originally planning to make a grand orchestral cover. However, I one day stumbled upon the anime No Game No Life and became absolutely infatuated with the opening theme, “This Game”. It’s a very upbeat tune with rapid pianos, bass-licks, drums and guitars, and I probably spent a day or two deconstructing it because it was so dense with crazy counter-melodies, polyrhythms and key modulations. I knew I had to make something in that same vein, and while working on creating my orchestral version of Rainbow Resort, the idea struck me: a bait-and-switch intro leading into an upbeat, frantic and super-catchy arrangement of the timeless Kirby track. I ran into a couple walls in the development process (and probably pounded my head against a couple real life walls), but focusing on finishing is what kept the fresh ideas coming. I’ve never worked harder on any composition in my entire life, and I’m genuinely pleased with how it turned out. I honestly couldn’t genre-ize this piece if you asked me to. Perhaps it’s some sort of hybrid between rock/metal and soundtrack music. I hope you’ll find this rather unorthodox arrangement of a classic 8-bit Kirby tune as endearing as I intended.

Your ReMixer name: Argle Name of game(s) arranged: Donkey Kong 64 Name of arrangement: Anthropoid Overture Name of individual song(s) arranged: DK Isle theme Hello! It's been a minute since I submitted anything, and sadly this is not new, rather something I made many years back and never sent in. The idea for this song existed in my brain for almost a decade, so it was good to be able to realize it eventually. I have to say the hardest thing about this track was coming up with a name other than "Simian Symphony", which regrettably was taken and would have been perfect. Hmph. Anyway, hopefully my musical burnout doesn't last forever and I can produce some new tracks eventually. Adam

Contact Information Your ReMixer name : ilp0 Your real name : Ilari Nieminen Your userid : 9399 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged : Suikoden Name of arrangement : Man-eating Spores of Agony Name of individual song(s) arranged : Theme of Sadness Additional information about game including composer, system, etc. (if it has not yet been added to the site) : Composer Miki Higashino Link to the original soundtrack (if it is not one of the sound archives already available on the site) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yLDTzHcZGY Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. : Hi guys. After a unintentional 5-year break from music, I finally managed to arrange a wife-free weekend with all the gadgets plugged and fridge loaded with cold beers. I came up with this remix from Suikoden - Theme of Sadness. Original song is hauntingly beautiful and I have made several attemps to remix it earlier but always fell way short of the mood of the original. This time I didn't even try to maintain the mood of the original but went for bit lighter and crazier moods. Br, Ilari

Link to the remix: ReMixer name: Deedubs Real name: Mike DeWeese Email address: User ID#: 30792 Game arranged: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Arrangement name: Echoes of Dusk Songs arranged: Midna's Theme, Boss Defeated Sources: Midna's Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXEnAuzjgKU Boss Defeated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNzwN9N3yMM A homesick Midna dreams of home. Suddenly, she is jolted awake. It's quiet, her eyes wide open. Slowly, she comes back to reality. Perhaps her dreams may be the only way she'll ever experience home again. She becomes sad, unwilling to accept this new reality. That is until help arrives. She gains a newfound hope, now more determined than ever to find her way home. She and her help fight through the toughest of challenges, their perseverance unbreakable. Suddenly, there it is. A familiar gateway. It opens. She makes her way through. It's home. She is finally home. This is more or less the story that came into my imagination during the production of this remix. Very similar to the story of Twilight Princess itself, but rather told from the perspective of Midna. Midna's Theme has a very somber, yet sinister tone, appropriate for the time it is first heard. My goal was to take that theme (including the english horn sound) and combine it with the more peaceful sounding Boss Defeated track to create something somber, yet hopeful. This is one of the more complex tracks I've done, if only for how many different elements from different genres I threw together. As such, this was a huge challenge to mix. A big thank you to the kind folks in the WIP forum who provided feedback in that regard.

OCR03665 - *YES* Super Mario Bros. 3 "The Journey Never Ends" *RESUB*
Liontamer replied to Gario's topic in Judges Decisions
Just needed to make the drumwork more varied and creative, and that's done. Trimming things down also helped, but the drums were the main issue. Let's go! YES -
Only checking this out while prepping it for posting, but congratulations on producing what sounds like a super-authentic Japanese arrange album piece. Excellent sound to the guitar in particular for setting that tone, IMO, and all of the performances and part-writing were on point. A bit cluttered, but the space was filled up well, and certainly nothing dinging this on any meaningful level. Beautiful work, gentlemen! YES

Way back, there was an FL-based compo with that specific format, i.e. only using what was out of the box. It resulted in one of my personal favorites here, Rellik's Zelda II mix, "Mirror and Transparent".

Quoted for agreement. On a trip and otherwise too busy to reply to this in depth, but the main thing I want to convey to Alex is to breathe and relax and ornate assume that any time someone complains about OCR or how the panel is run that you're somehow shunned, blacklisted, or ready to be banned. We're not touchy like that. Don't assume bad faith and overthink things to the point where you think we have it out for you. On the Facebook thread for this, zyko and The Coop pointed out how the track didn't have much going on dynamically. I haven't heard it, but that's a pretty reasonable and common reason stuff hasn't passed before.

Yep, that snippet matched my start here as well. It's why I kept harping on djp to bring back the alpha nav, and it in the works.

HAPPY PREHALLOWEEN! OC ReMix and Ghetto Lee Lewis present Heretic Sinphony! October 23, 2017 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA... Celebrating Halloween, OC ReMixer Thomas "Ghetto Lee Lewis" Nelson has released the community's latest album, Heretic Sinphony. Heretic Sinphony features six dark electronic tracks arranging Kevin Schilder's music from id Software's 1994 DOS shooter Heretic, and is available for free download at http://ocremix.org/info/Heretic_Sinphony. The album was produced to help promote video game music, was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Raven Software, id software, or ZeniMax Media; the game, characters, images, and original compositions are copyright their respective owners. "What began with a remix of 'The Cathedral' soon turned into a full-blown remix album of Raven Software's Heretic," recalled creator Thomas Nelson. "This game is a classic first-person shooter from the Doom era, with some really good, but overlooked music." Heretic Sinphony is OCR's third album honoring an id Software-published title following 2008's Doom II: Delta-Q-Delta and 2005's Doom: The Dark Side of Phobos. "I composed and produced this album while working a full-time job (sometimes 60+ hours a week), while putting together a recording/production studio at the same time," Nelson explained. "It's been a long two years, but I'm finally glad this album is finally coming together and getting released." Heretic Sinphony also marks the fourth Halloween album release for the OC ReMix community. Last year, OCR released YoshiBlade's arrangement and skit album Candy Corn, 2015 featured the Castlevania-based album trilogy Vampire Variations, and Joshua Morse created the site's first solo artist album with his 2009 Castlevania tribute Sonata of the Damned. Download Heretic Sinphony: http://ocremix.org/info/Heretic_Sinphony Torrent: http://bt.ocremix.org/torrents/Heretic_Sinphony.torrent Heretic Sinphony is a 6-track commissioned album inspired by the music from the 1994 Raven Software classic Heretic. It was commissioned by Emmanuel EXE, with original artwork by Tedd Leger of Mehxôhorr Artworks. This project started out with an e-mail I received about two years ago. What began with a remix of "The Cathedral" soon turned into a full-blown remix album of Raven Software's Heretic. This game is a classic first-person shooter from the Doom era, with some really good, but overlooked music. I composed and produced this album while working a full-time job (sometimes 60+ hours a week), while putting together a recording/production studio at the same time. It's been a long two years, but I'm finally glad this album is finally coming together and getting released. EastWest samples (HW Orchestra, Stormdrum, Ministry of Rock) were heavily used throughout this project, and also some 8Dio libraries (Requiem and Studio Sopranos). For the synths, I mosty used Native Instruments Massive and FM8, along with a few sounds from Sylenth1. FL Studio is the same DAW I have used for the last 15 or so years, and I still use to this day. It has great VST and sample library support and provides a super-easy-to-use interface for both arranging and automation. - Thomas Nelson (Ghetto Lee Lewis)
