OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Liontamer replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
To get the usual buttons, change Message Editor Interface (at the very bottom of Edit Options) from Basic to Standard. Thread titles can't be changed except by moderators, and the other limits I believe are forum defaults. They do undermine stupidity, so I can't complain. -

Peeps need to stay both days. I don't care what anyone else's plans are, I'm at the Saturday show as well. -

If you fly into Reagan National Airport (i.e. NOT Dulles), you'll be able to ride the Metro line, which is way cheaper. $4 to go across all of the DC-Metro area, and that's an overestimation. If you can fly in there, you'll need $10 tops for all your major transporation needs that weekend. -
I voted on the originally subbed version with no voices, which I still have for anyone who'd like to hear it. The link in the first post has their current version with voice work added in. The voice work is definitely way too cheesy and beginner-ish, but it's only in the very intro and 6:13. Not that it's a dealbreaker, but stuff like that only pushes a borderline NO further into NO territory. Unless you can get it sounding more emotional, I'd scrap it. I agree with BGC's general sentiment of "I don't mind gimmicky stuff, but if you're going to have it, do it right".

*NO* Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Bolero en Fuego'
Liontamer posted a topic in Judges Decisions
Samples are bleh, but good arrangement ideas; uhh...don't mind that minute of silence at the end, the track is only 3:24-long - LT Remixer name - Theory of Nonexistence Real name - Dustin L. Email - OMFGitsDustin@gmail.com userID - 19501 Game remixed - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time song remixed - Bolero of Fire So here's my next submission, hopefully it won't get auto-rejected like the other two. I gave a kind of latin feel to the Bolero of Fire. It was originally requested by Magistrate in the Paso Doble style and I never really heard any examples of that. I only knew that it was a spanish type of music so I went on and made it as Spanishy as I could. So here it is! Thanks, ToN ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get rid of that minute of silence, boy! You ain't John Cage! http://www.zophar.net/usf/lozusf.rar - 60 "Bolero of Fire" Man, I like the ideas you've got in place. At the crux of it, the arrangement is hot. You did a lot with a very brief original. Good alteration of the rhythms, good structure, good dynamics. 2:37 repeats 1:26's section verbatim, which was disappointing, but the arrangement was already interpretive enough IMO where it didn't totally kill off its merit. You would, however, still be better served providing more variation instead. Killing this though, the sound quality is ultra MIDI-ish and the textures are pretty thin and barren. The hand drums sound pretty good, but that's about the only sound that has any meat on it and doesn't sound completely mechanical. Certainly not the guitars or brass, and those are the sounds you're relying on the carry the lion's share of this one. Even if the sounds were fuller, you still might need more parts to further fill out the soundfield. Wow, we haven't gotten anything this lopsided in quite a while. If you can figure out how to adequately put flesh on the bones so that the textures aren't so thin and also address the ultra-mechanical feel of the sequencing, this could stand a shot at passing. Right now though, Dustin, the end result is heavily imbalanced toward arrangement and not towards sound quality or production. :'-( NO (resubmit) -
That avatar's been there for a dog's age. You just didn't realize it was available. All the Sin City stuff is from way back. Now you must fight for it.
-
They're always in the last place you look.
-
You act as if the thread died on account of the new stuff being added. Everyone should keep trying to submit more stuff. Like I said, from here on in, newly accepted avatars can be added ASAP by me.
-
On the contrary, I was actually shocked at the sheer number, only because by accepting them basically 1 by 1, I never noticed that we added around 650 of 'em. Apparently two Cowboy Bebop avatars I don't even recall ever having disappeared into thin air. If anyone has them cached or something, and they looked good, I can add 'em back. If they ever there to begin with. As for the thread topic, Bowser is "RAWRZ!" Just looks like a badass pic of a classic villain. Had a lot of fun switching my avatar lately, in expectation of finally rollin' these out. That Chrono Cross Starky avatar also looked pretty cool.
-
That title. It just compelled me.
-
Whoever submitted them way back when during the UnMod avatar project titled the files that way. Now that you mention Spike, I feel like I vaguely recall something too, but again it may have never been there, or the image(s) had been too grainy. Honestly dunno, but someone will, I'm sure. I admit, with currently 978 avatars, 2 people picking the same one is LOLer than ever.
-
I don't even remember any Cowboy Bebop avatars, but I kept 99% of everything we used to have (some were replaced with background transparency fixes, and I got rid of that one crappy Lando one). Maybe the quality on 'em was super low, but being at least vaguely familiar with the series, I feel like I'd distictly remember having some CB avatars. Anyone know what he's talking about? What's up?
-
There you have it.
-
I've now got direct access to avatars and have uploaded everything that was accepted. The only downside is that everyone must now reselect avatars, but you now have almost 1,000 options. Future new avatars are now able to be added immediately. Will give formal thanks tomorrow night, but I'm really appreciative of everyone that's pitched in to help. Thanks very much, and enjoy!

Why the "Post Comments" link doesn't show up, I've got no idea. Everything seems enabled in the settings. [/shrugs]

Contact info: Remixer: Tjalve Real name: Gustav Gager E-Mail: gager@boremail.com User id: Not registred in the forum. Sorry. Remix info: Game remixed: Faxanadu Song remixed: Title screen. (didnt find any better name) Comments: This is a track that is made with Propellerhead Reason. The inspiration to this song comes from the NES itself. Im veary satisfied with the increadlble music that could be done on this machine. Since there was no real drums and samples then. the songs are based on a good melody and this song has a really good melody. I have tried to bring it into the 21 centuray with this mix. Its a dance/club version. I think its strage that noone has remixed this track befor, because its really beautiful. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.zophar.net/nsf/faxanadu.zip - Track 1 Some very bread-and-butter sounds in play. Never a fan of the mechanically-sequenced piano playing single notes (:00), as it always sounds stiff. Good escalation at :14. Claps from :21-:27 were way too exposed and could use some effects, though they might as well not have been there if they were gonna be such a brief non-factor. The meat of the arrangement picked up at :28. The genre adaptation was there, but aside from that, the structure, tempo and feel is the same as the original. There was also something missing in the track to provide more drive, despite the overall good level of energy. Clap at 1:17 again needed more meat. 1:34 dropped the beats out for a more ethereal feel, with some slight variations on the main theme, before returning the dance groove at 2:05 and rehashing :30's section verbatim until 3:09 (aside from some slight variation from 2:33-2:52, compared to :57-1:16 before). 3:09 dropped the beats out briefly again before they came back for the last big section at 3:24. Key change at 3:24 provided some contrast, but the arrangement didn't have any new developments aside from that. 4:11 subtracted elements going to the finish. There's some decent work with dynamics in terms of the structure, but the overall arrangement felt underdeveloped because the verses were are essentially the same with each iteration. On top of that, I didn't feel that the interpretation ideas were thorough beyond adapting the original to a club/dance format; more could have be done here on the interpretation level, though there are aspects in the right general direction. The energy is good (though there's something missing here to drive this along), so work on further developing and personalizing the arrangement. Sign up on the forums and take advantage of the ReMixing and Works forums for this and future works. Good base so far. NO

Dunno how Xoc feels about collabs, but I'll drop him a line in case he doesn't see this. I'm enthused. To-be-posted mixer Another Soundscape shot me a PM today wanting to join the project: Yeah, "Golden Feathers" was kickass, you don't need to send me any samples. Whatever you'd feel like picking from the Follin discography, please let me know. I'm always available to give WIP feedback as well. I'm really glad someone with your creativity is on board, Mattias, and I hope you find something you like. Thank you for the kind words, I've started a WiP on "Storm" from the Spiderman X-men game but I don't know if I will keep it. I'll be in touch. Again, Thanks. Spider-Man & The X-Men is always a great choice. The Fat Man also has some ideas for Silver Surfer NSF Track 6, so I'm hoping both of these talented artists find their inner Follin. I'm leaving myself a mental note here to contact GaMeBoX to see if he's still free. Uniqueness, that's what all 3 of those aforementioned individuals would bring to the table.

He's not even talking about the design issues explicitly, just overall functionality. Yeah, djp'z, I trust you on it, so we'll see what we can do in the next few days to discuss things. I am also starving for blog comments. Affirmative actions dictates that I receive additional ones.

There is about a 0.01% chance of this kind of request being fulfilled, asking someone to even minorly redo a 5 year old track. Your best best is an email directly to bLiNd, not our boards, but I dunno how you'd practically expect a request like this to be fulfilled.
