  1. Beta servers are shut down until further notice. Man, Konami's servers just got pwned. US BETA start time to be decided. They say they'll have an update on the 22nd (Tuesday night) at 23:00 PDT... 11PM Pacific Time (technically Wednesday morning for the rest of the US; 1AM CST, 2AM EST). Totally blows, but they're making up for the inconvenience by extending the beta 5 more days. I'm not entirely sure about the times for EU dates, but they're in the same boat pretty much. ... GameFAQs is always crazy, but it's madness in the forums right now. EDIT: Supposedly it will be up Friday at midnight Pacific Time, according to the English (U.S) website. So at 2 AM CST Friday morning, barring any problems, I can play MGO ... =)
  2. Heads up! The beta is supposed to come online at 00:00 CEST, which is 5:00PM Central Standard Time. That's like... 30 minutes. Anyone else prepping to play the beta? or am I the only one :_(
  3. My favorite racing game is the race against the mailman in Zelda 64. Not enough challenge in other games.
  4. Okay, so if they put the beta online when the clock hits 12 in Japan (like they did with putting the beta up), then the beta should be available in... hmm... 8 or 9 hours. Here's hoping it happens again like it did with the original download. I'll have to squeeze all my finals to a small little corner while the majority of my time will be taking place in the beta. haha. Psh, university. I know what's important. Laying porno mags on the ground, and running around inside a box.
  5. All this coverage is silly, imo. All game developers have a vision of a game in their head. Just because he's not able to realize it in it's entirety doesn't mean the game or system are bad. If you just look at MGS4's videos (and the reviews coming from that bootcamp they just had) the press is creaming over the game. I think it's silly to be making judgements like this. Kojima is a perfectionist, we've known this for years. I think A LOT of game developers don't reach their vision, but they have to settle with what they have because of budgets, deadlines, etc. I think the media coverage of this is just being blown out of proportion. Every site I see has this story, and the comments section is like "OMG NOT BYING PS3 NOW, NUB!!11!" For crying out loud. The game will be revolutionary, just not as revolutionary as Kojima might have wanted it, and I'm sure this is the case with ALL the MGS titles. Again, he says gameplay is close to his vision, while primarily the graphics and level size were the only thing that were a little off. Is this a problem? Since when did we really value graphics over gameplay anyway? The game looks fantastic, and maybe its due to Kojima setting the bar so high that the MGS series continues to do cool things in the gaming world. Just because he sets the bar to crazy heights and can't hit it, doesn't mean the game is going to fail, or that Kojima Productions didn't reach crazy heights for gameplay and graphics. No big deal. This whole thing is getting out of hand all over the internet. THE ONLY complaint I've really heard of from reviewers are a few low resolution textures. *rolls eyes* Is that it!?!?!? And about PS3 processing power. He says he's pushing the Cell to the limit, but if I remember correctly he said the same thing about MGS2, and a few years later Snake Eater came out and blew the effects MGS2 had out of the water. There are always optimizations and tweaks these devs can do to use the power more efficiently. Kojima goes out of his way not to blame the PS3 hardware, which I think is important. /rant SUMMARY: everyone chill, seriously, it's not a big deal. All you need are your own two eyes to see the game looks fantastic. Most game devs set the bar high and don't reach it, which I believe is a common practice. I respect Kojima for his candor. All game developers deal with this. Not. A. Big. Deal. Would have been cool to see his vision fully realized, but that's what his next games are for... (Snatcher plz). While I love the candid response and chat from Kojima, I just don't think the internet can handle this type of interview. (sighs @ Kotaku comment makers). Kojima's being too hard on himself because, like I said above, he's a known perfectionist. --- ALSO --- Metal Gear Online BETA starts in a day and a half! I got my Konami code (Thank God!). I think the id.konami.com website is beginning to work for people too, so if you're in the beta and gave up on that dumb site (like I almost did) just a heads up.
  6. 4, 1, 2, 6. Tell me you remember this one, it's easy! MORTAL KOMBAT! Oh memories... that was back in the day when Mortal Kombat was fresh and new and good. lol. haha, and when having blood in a game was a free pass to media coverage and nationwide bannings. Good times. ... memories.
  7. Okay, so the downloading the beta went okay, but the thing had a patch that took 3 FREAKIN' hours... geez. I thought it was cool that they added a Download from Server option and a BitTorrent option right in the game. First time I'd ever seen that. @Necrotic We should definitely get everyone together to play online. So is anyone else rocking a Metal Gear syled codename/username for MGO?
  8. BTW The Metal Gear Online Beta is available for download (One day ahead of schedule!). Bust out your registration numbers from the preorder. I'm downloading mine right now. 15%. Too bad I can't play it until Monday. But... hey, it makes me feel that much more closer to my beloved Metal Gear Solid 4 and MGO.
  9. I would love to get one, but I need more info. 60 bucks for a bluetooth headset is a little much for me. I already have a headset but... damn is that thing cool. I might have to get one. >_< I'll definitely think about it. OH HEY! SIDE NOTE! Is anyone taking part in the Beta next week? The beta pregame download starts this thursday. We should all meet up online if that's possible.
  10. Didn't dig this guy. He just wants to bitch and moan. He sounds like an old 80 year old talking about how things were better in his day. And like a scenile, 80 year old with Alzehiemers most of his 'facts' are largely uninformed and pulled out of his ass. For crying out loud, he was bitching about the COLOR BROWN... come on... he sounds like he wants fantastic worlds that take place with fantastic characters, but he's leaving out a ton of games that are brightly colored and imaginatively awe-inspiring that have indeed been released recently. I mean, Ico was incredible and semi-modern... meh, this guy is off his rocker. I hope his oxygen tank doesn't blow up while he's drinking his prune juice. Guy above me mentioned Shadow of the colossus. That game had beautiful art direction, but look, the game is heavily populated by browns and greys, and only a little green, which stands out like crazy in that drab environment. ... I'm half expecting one of those "I walked 3 miles in the snow, backwards" kind of comments from this guy... Oh and the "BIG WORDS" thing. Haha. People only start talking about their "big words" when they've been digging through the dictionary to draw attention to their new found vocabulary words in hopes other people might think they're intelligent. I mean, by all means people can have opinions but... come on. I do have to give him credit on the Madden comment though. DLC does make sense, but as long as those damned games keep selling like they do that'll never happen. This guy has brought nothing new to the table except for a lack luster emulation of Zero Puncutation's video style...
  11. Hell yes I felt old just recently. I'm 23 and saw a 13 year old playing some crappy games that they're pumping out lately. Had to tell him about the days of the SNES and Genesis. The days of the NES. He had a vague familiarity with the N64, but nothing really, and was more accustomed to the Gamecube and Wii. Told him about Zelda, but he didn't really know anything about it except for Zelda64 and Twilight Princess. I was like, "KID! GO PLAY LINK TO THE PAST!" *kick* That kid really loved Zelda 64. It was weird, it was like I was back in 1997 at a middle school lunch table all over again. It was kinda weird. There was another kid with him, and he was completely brainwashed by all those EA titles coming out. I didn't realize it, but kids now-a-days really are graphic whores. They think the Xbox360 is the one true system and that Electronic Arts is the best developer ever... oh, yeah, and he was playing Guitar hero 3 without a freaking guitar controller, and proclaiming ridiculous things like "It's more fun without the lame guitar." COME ON!! I really couldn't believe what tools some of these kids are. (And yes, I realize I'm ragging on kids that are half my age... but man, what a punk) So, yeah, this other kid would make fun of the other kid for playing old games like Zelda64, and I was like, "hey you little fat bastard, stfu." You know nothing. Go play *insert latest movie franchise, sub par game by EA here* *kicks* *nods* If I ever have kids Im' starting with some Atari stuff to get them used to it, graduate them to NES, move to Genesis and SNES, then to N64, Playstation and Dreamcast, and I'll keep 'em moving through the good games. *another nod*
  12. Put a bullet in the series already. It's like watching a dying dog gasping for air. Just end this Sonic Team. It's just inhumane.
  13. I think everyone will sign this... but once that millionth signature shows up, Boll will alter his statement. He's a slick willy.
  14. Let me tell you something. Twin Snakes is good. It has a graphics overhaul. It looks shiney. The orignal MGS has music and mood and an attitude that feels lost in newer version. The voice acting isn't as great (not bad, but not as good as the original). They rechoreographed some of the cutscenes (making them a little over the top imo... too many damned flips through the air that are just silly), added in A LITTLE extra information, and THEY CHANGED A LOT OF THE MUSIC (which I believe is one of the biggest problems). For instance, some memorable songs are all removed and they've thrown in some wild electronica stuff, which is cool, but it doesn't feel the same as the stellar, classic music from the original. Sure you get MGS2 moves in TwinSnakes, but it just doesn't feel as magical or as captivating as the PS1 version felt. Plus since the MGS2 controls were never intended for the maps of MGS2, you can take out entire squads of guards with the first person view, which you were unable to do in the original. And I don't want to spoil anything for you, but a few very dramatic parts in the PS1 version just feel watered down in general... ***SEMI-SPOILER*** there's one scene in the snow where Snake has to finish off a fallen enemy, and it just doesn't have the dramatic effect that the original had... the original was so good and so moving. I'm trying to keep it vague for those of you that haven't played the game... although citing something as a spoiler that is almost ten years old does seem a little silly to me. ***END SPOILERS* It's just not as emotionally moving. The entire experience on the Gamecube just feels watered down. Play the PS1 version, the way MGS was intended from the beginning, because it's a phenomenal game. Play the PS1 version. It is superior in it's lasting effect. Just do it. Go. Stop Reading. Go play MGS on the PS1. G'WAN!
  15. Haha! It looks like that troll guy Hoggle from that movie Labyrinth... you know, the one with David Bowie in it and his crazy scary tight pants.
  16. lol. thanks very much everyone. I might mess around with some more aggressive samples. You won't get anywhere unless you practice like hell and keep making stuff. Over time you'll start to find your own groove.
  17. haha. You're right! Nooo! No more stalking. It's making me do this :_( haha. Thanks for the kind words... hehe
  18. lol. Thanks. It's actually getting a much better reception than I ever thought... I might update it one of these days with some new voices... I dunno. thanks for the comment. Appreciate it.
  19. http://www.myspace.com/strike911 it'll start automatically... Okay, so I was feeling especially angry at people that lurk on my MySpace so I quickly threw together a song especially for them... it's very simple, but meh, I really wanted some kind of way to tell some uncool people from real life to "get off my lawn" ... digitally. I was going for more of a party song feel than anything else. Oh synthesized speech samples and overly filtered vocals. http://www.myspace.com/strike911
  20. The STFU part slightly reminds me of that old rap group Onyx and their one minute song called "Back the Fuck up" (actually I think they pronounced it [and wrote it] Bacdafucup) where they quite literally just repeated "back the fuck, you better back the fuck up" over and over again. Bacdafucup. cool though.
  21. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!~!! THAT IS AWESOME!
