  1. Diggin' the laid back character of the song; rather interesting if you consider the sound of the original song. Arrangementwise, this seems fine to me, though it could use a bit more variation, especially on the second run (from 2:10 on). The only thing that irks me here are the drums. They have a certain hollow sound to them; I'd rather have 'em fat (without being too loud/in the foreground, since that would ruin the laid back feeling). Also, I like the voice sample.
  2. Okay, the "violins" sound really, really terrible. If that lo-fi kind of sound is what you were going for, good, but otherwise, please change them. They sound way worse than what the Genesis and SNES soundchips were capable of.
  3. Geez, guys, Turtles in Time had more than one level... Anyway, everything here is awesome to the max. The organ, the guitars, the arrangement, the solos, the cheese. If there's anything I'd have to criticise, I'd say the panning on the organ in the intro is a little disturbing (if you're using headphones, that is). I don't care if all we get are remixes of Sewer Surfin', just keep on making TIT remixes (yes, I wrote that on purpose).
  4. I love the drumwork here, and I definitely love the synth you are using. While I really like violins, the one in here doesn't really gel with me. In some places, especially in the beginning and from 4:28 on, it seems somewhat distant, detached from everything else that's going on in the song. However, it works well in some other places, e.g. around the 1:50 mark and especially when it's slowly introduced at 3:38. So yeah, mixed feelings about that one. Btw, the "background noise" you use in the beginning and the end of the song is really nice when listening with headphones.
  5. The ethnic parts are wonderful. Funnily enough, I can listen to this song only up to a certain volume. If it gets too loud, the lead synth (which is actually pretty nice) starts to annoy the living hell out of me.
  6. I was listening to your Chun-Li mix (which I enjoyed, btw) when this came up, and boy-oh-boy did the piano in the beginning rub me the wrong way. Too loud compared to everything else, it becomes almost piercing when you listen to the song using headphones. Sorry to say, but I had to turn it off after about 30 seconds.
  7. I'm pretty tired of Chrono Trigger remixes, but this one was a positive surprise. Nice energy throughout; I especially liked the parts from 1:26 and 3:00 on. Everything from 3:15 on is made of win anyway, thanks to the synths. The guitars sound very nice, too. Actually, I'm impressed by how well everything in this mix sounds. Nice work.
  8. I still regret not buying the offical strawberry VMU when I saw it in a store.
  9. The beginning is hilarious. Great idea. All in all a very solid rock track with nice breakdowns, e.g. around the 1:30 mark. Very good use of voice clips, too. The end was handled quite well, too.
  10. Heh, guess I should have been warned when I read "Linkin Park" in the write-up. I have to say that I find the beginning of the song absolutely boring. Same goes for the breakdown at 3:34, btw. It gets way better once the kickass guitar at 1:14 comes in, and the break-down-ish section using piano and strings is pretty good, too. 2:19 onwards is just awesome. All in all, I like how the song was arranged, and some parts of this remix are very enjoyable, but other ones just irk me.
  11. Oh hey, I remember that. Brb, listening to it.
  12. This definitely sounds a lot cleaner than the previous version. Maybe I'm imagining things, but the piano during the breakdown around 2:10 sounds better (louder?) to me in the old version. Also, the flute in the background around 1:20 ~ 1:30 (and later on around 3:00) is nice; try to give it a little more "screentime"/put it more into the foreground.
  13. The voice samples at the beginning seem somewhat unnecessary to me; a purely instrumental intro would work better IMO, reason being that a.) the text isn't particulary interesting and b.) everyone who made a female Commander Shepard won't like all the "he"s in the text The transition at 0:56 onwards feels very forced; the intro theme playing on in the background doesn't match with the music in the foreground at all. Almost to the point where it is annoying. 1:26 onwards - Now we're talking. Awesome part, everything works together well. 2:29 - The low end is a little too "fat" here, IMO. But keep working on it; I'd love to see some Mass Effect on OCR.
  14. I'm a little surprised that Beatdrop's DJ Mixes weren't mentioned in the interview, but oh well. Nice read anyway.
  15. Definitely an afternoon tea-ish atmosphere. As was said before, the strings are what really makes this arrangement. While the parts where they come in are more lively than chilled, they fit the mood perfectly and create an atmosphere and joy and fun without sounding pompous.
  16. Oh wow, you haven't posted any of these in ages. Considering that I spent a night playing Amiga games with friends of mine last weekend, the timing couldn't be better. I wish the synth (?) coming in at 0:59 would be there for a longer time; I really like it.
  17. Despite being a rather recent release, Hybridism is the remix album I've listened to most often, so that should make it obvious what I think about Joshua Morse's music. The remix at hand, while having the typical JM groove, sticks out because of the middle eastern influence, and that makes it special. It actually reminds me of GeckoYamori & Rayza's "Planet Oil" remix from Sonic 2. Anyway, download this remix, and then download the whole album. You won't regret it.
  18. You should focus on getting a little more diversion into the song before making it longer. As is, there just isn't enough going on melody-wise to make this thing interesting; it's two samples and a drumloop. Having the whooo-whoo sound (or whatever it is that starts pretty much at the very beginning) throughout the song makes it even a little grinding. In other words, melody please.
  19. Very nice choice of instruments. While the melody doesn't really do anything for me, I like listening to this just for the unusual instruments we get to hear.
  20. Seconded. Considering how smooth everything else in this remix works together, this transition was really lackluster. Other than that, everything else in this piece comes together beautifully. In other words, it's exactly the quality-orchestra-arrangement you expect when you think about Vampire Hunter Dan.
  21. I agree, this song would make a nice addition to OCR's library of music. A cute little song with a very 90s RPG-ish vibe to it. Since I don't know the source, I cannot comment on how close the arrangement is to the original, but I think that the variety of instruments in this remix allows for some interesting solos.
  22. Oh HELL yeah. I need to hear this. Hopefully, it'll surface somewhere on the internet.
  23. I hope you are not referring to the Sitar, because I like it. The real issue here is, as was stated before by DrumUltima and zircon, the repetitiveness of the zeal motif. It's very short, and playing it over and over and over again becomes somewhat grinding. I really thing that varying this up is what you need to pay the most attention to. The spoken parts add a certain something to it, but the "white noise" at the very end of the song (again, Doug mentioned that before) is a little annoying. You might want to try to let the music go on for as long as the speech and cut them off at the same time, or let the music drop out after the speech is over.
  24. I never played the game; in fact, back when it was new and I read about it in the video game magazines, I hated it. However, I have been listening to this particular remix time and again over the last few years. It's a quirky, funny tune, and lifts your mood instantaneously. Mazedude always delivers quality stuff, and this remix is no exception. Also, this song not only makes me look forward to the upcoming Tim Follin tribute album, but has also made me want to finally play Plok. Good job.
