  1. How much of the tracks do you have to listen to before it lets you vote on them? Also, they have this contest every month?
  2. EDIT: 11-5-08 Song posted. http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01773/
  3. I like it. Not half as cool as Granite, though; it'd take a lot to rival that track.
  4. Oops, thought I commented on this already. Yeah, the drumwork is superb. OA was right on about the textures too, lush and spacious. Great job, sir.
  5. (while sitting in the middle of Tax Accounting) I dunno, I really don't see the point in this unless people who actually know what they're doing are doing the critiquing. I guess I don't look at the WIP forums as a place to "learn what's wrong" with my mix as much as it's just me letting people know that I'm working on something at the moment. Usually I post something in a rush of just having rendered it out and want to share that track with others (often listening to the next day and wondering what I was thinking). It seems that putting a check in anything, (too repetitive, too loud, wrong notes, etc) is going to require a comment just to explain that check, so why bother? I don't have anything wrong with the checklist, but I doubt I'll be using it. I'm big on Coop's idea of positive feedback too, but his list is kinda long. crap, groupwork...I'll post more later maybe
  6. I agree about the original track being incredible already, so trying to recreate that in a purely orchestral mix would be pretty pointless. Sure, it's different and probably annoys some people because it isn't as awesome as the original, but is that even possible? Admittedly, I developed the beat first and decided to try to fit the theme into it, but I think it works (except maybe that flange on the drums). It's different, but a good different. I also don't think the guitar sounds as bad as you guys think it does, but that's just cause you guys get spoiled by the likes of Sixto, Fishy, and Snapple around here. Anyway, thanks for the comments; I knew this would be a pretty controversial mix.
  7. I've got Fostex PM1 nearfields, advertised as having a 50 - 20,000 range but I can hear a faint rumble at the 30 Hz tone.
  8. I'm not familiar with the original per sae (only played the N64 version), but this is very well orchestrated. Enjoyed it the whole way through, esp the french horn work. Great job!
  9. Oh man, this is some great stuff. Loving the solos; fantastic work here Anso.
  10. @ Shadix: It's EWQL silver, and as Snappleman so aptly described, no the guitar is not "live" unless you counting playing it on the keyboard as live. I hope to add more to this and clean it up a bit soon, thanks for the comments!
  11. Straight from Samplefusion's "sliced beats" pack. I figured if there'd ever be a time to use them, it'd be for an IL demo.
  12. "Final" download version available up on my site: http://www.audixmusic.com/documents/remixes.html
  13. Wow, thanks, I had entirely forgotten about those tracks. Certainly didn't expect an announcement about this.
  14. Apparently this is pretty decent. I've never used it, but I've only heard good things. I used to use the USB version of that card you linked to a while ago, but never for recording. It was decent; latency was only manageable but my laptop wasn't so great either.
  15. At first it may seem that cutting the low frequencies (I assume that's what you mean by "end") will make your track sound worse or less powerful, but to the outside listener it will often actually improve the listenability and sound better. For example, if you've got a low pad cluttering up space with your dedicated bass line and/or the higher frequencies of your kick, you'll inevitably end up with a bunch of mush. This may be the "pressure" that you're referring to. Carve out a spot for your bass in the pad using EQ and ditto for the kick. Once you've done this, you can then often raise the volume levels to match your previous perceived loudness, with the added bonus that you will now notice improved clarity in the low end. I would suspect that EQ problems are causing your other issue with "stacked" instruments. I know it seems laborious, but taking the time to separate your synths from each other with EQ keeps things sounding much cleaner and will certainly improve the listener fatigue that you seem to be describing. In short, switching to an (arguably) better sample rate probably won't do anything to help you out. 44k should be all you need. Also, you may find this handy.
  16. Probably this so far: At the recent Butler game, It was standing room only all the way around the arena with a record crowd (I think like 6,300 or something); the place was loud and the intro sounded darn pretty sweet.
  17. Dang, that thing's huge. Anyway, I used to do all my work on an HP laptop (using FL), and ASIO4ALL helped tremendously with latency and just overall smoothness. It's so stable that I'm pretty sure it comes bundled with FL now as the default. For recording, well, it depends on how high quality you want your clarinet recording to be. There's always something like the USB E-mu 0404 if you want to get really fancy, but you should be fine for starters.
  18. Yeah, let's get this thing done. Seriously. Also, Coop, your mix was great. There's gotta be a way to get it rendered with some better samples...maybe even downloading the trial of FL and producing the track that way. (You won't be able to save, but I think it comes with the soundfont player.) I wouldn't mind running your midi through some of my stuff either. I don't know how you would feel about that, but we won't have to mention a word of credit for me. I won't change a single note, either.
  19. Just dropping in to say keep doing what you're doing. Sounds great. Very professional sound; just curious, what brass samples are those?
  20. Nice job, sounds very polished. Can't really comment on arrangement, as I'm not familiar with the source, but it seems like you're okay in that regard too.
  21. This rocks, nice work! With that said, I think the drums could use more punch and kick. (Although I just compared your track to some Avenged Sevenfold and they have an even "thinner" snare sound.) Also, at the section near the end with the fast chugging, it's really hard to pick out the guitar melody there. Great stuff so far, will be looking for updates. Good look finding a vocalist to carry this track home.
