  1. Great intro that leads straight into a killer bassline and pretty good 4 on the floor beat. I love that squiggly bass sound, and mixed with the beats and some PS1 sounding synths it is actually a decent marriage. The kick gets a little lost in a few places when it doesn't have the drum machine beefing it up, and the solo seemed a bit off rhythmically in a few places, but overall this is a pretty solid mix, considering the timeframe. A few parts are a little lofi, but the sounds mesh well together. A little more snap on the snare would have been nice. To the soundclip: dude, if they aren't risen from their graves by the first or second command you give them, they aren't going to rise ever. Though I suppose you practice what you preach and "never give up". I gotta appreciate that.
  2. Woah, it is the end song from revenge of the nerds! Awesome pitchbends on the lead, and the vocals are total space synth. I really like the counterpoint parts as well, and though I could never see myself creating something like this, I can appreciate it's style. I think I actually prefer this to most of Makke's other tracks, though they all contain something that I like. The laser sounds are great, and though the beats are somewhat repetitive, I can't resist the non-stop comet action.
  3. Pretty good source arranged very effectively; I am loving the lofi beats and what sounds to me like a koto or something being played like a mandolin. Very interesting idea, and I think it works very well. I would have preferred the bass to be a deeper house sound, but I think the rest of the instrument choices were pretty good. The guitar tone was nice, and the overall feel gelled pretty well. Arrangement is pretty similar to the original, but expands on things slightly, so i'm glad this one didn't get snatched up in a lockdown.
  4. What an unfortunately titled game. :/ The samples in this one haven't really stood the test of time, but the arrangement is still hot out of the oven. Great sequencing; the piano is really nice, and the rotary is super fast, but I like how it is used. The lead up to the Trombone and chiptune solo section was really well executed, and the whole song gives a great feeling of fun and exuberance. I think some updated samples for this one, and maybe some live acoustic guitar would really make it be a standout. As is, it's still pretty good.
  5. This one is super crisp and clean, the synths are all very well balanced and panned, so you can hear every element at all times. I do think a little more bass would have made it rock a bit more, but it's still very nice. Arrangement does get a bit repetitive, but there is plenty going on, and the grooves are pretty hot, so it doesn't detract as much as it could have. There is an underlying current of development, and it seems to work its way from the bottom to the top, which is a pretty cool sonic effect. Lack of an ending is too bad, but the song itself can stand on it's own. Good stuff.
  6. Pretty close to the source, but much better i'd say. I love the synths chosen, and the groove is pretty strong as well. The sax is a little strange, but is obviously not intended to be taken literally. The tom fills are packed with cheese, but it's delicious anyways. A very fun track.
  7. This track had me at the completely amazing fake steel drum solo. It's so implausible that you can't imagine it to be playable on an actual instrument, but the part itself is so cool. It'd make a fantastic synth solo, where suspension of disbelief isn't a requisite. The shifts this track take on throughout it's four-and-a-half minute duration are immense, and everything is packed in so densely that it's a great track to listen to on repeat, finding new layers every few listens or so. This is Sonic plus the kitchen sink, and if one section doesn't immediately grab you, the one right after it is sure to. An excellent collab where both mixers seem to have gone all out. Recommended.
  8. The guitar intro itself was great, and had a good vibe, but when the beat came in, I found the track to lose all momentum, and start to drag. I think the offender was that snare it was pushed way back, which is fine, but it was filtered in a way to still have a ton of bite. It didn't fit the soundscape believably, and I think the track suffered because of it. The guitar playing was great, the harmonica line was ok, and the drums I could have done without.
  9. One of my favorite games ever, i've had this pre-ordered for awhile. I hope the voice acting is good in english. The playstation one and gba version i couldnt get into because of the load times. I hope this one loads fast.
  10. Yeah, this one needs to grow on you. The intro is way too experimental (read: random) for my tastes. It effectively builds up the piece though, but I think a bit of editing could benefit it as a whole. It just goes on for too long. Once the theme itself comes in, it's a bit more grounded and it works pretty well. The sax samples are excellently processed, and really sound like they are floating out into the night. The percussion was aite, and the vibes and strings do a good job of filling out the foundation made by the piano. Very esoteric but it shines in a few spots, like a rainbow in the sky.
  11. pretty cool stuff; i am starting on a mix of my own as well.
  12. The vocals are hard to discern at the beginning, and they were a bit too dry when they made chanting appearances and could have used some reverb to fit in better. Once things got going, it's a very chill and pretty well-produced track. The whole ambiance fits except for the vocals, and takes the room sound of something with a low ceiling. Some of the higher rhodes notes get a little piercing, and there was a massive clip at the very end, but i was feeling the groove on this one. The arrangement is stellar; I love when remixers turn a track on it's head, but still make it recognizable. The drums were just keeping time, but when the rhodes and piano are both so busy, there isn't much room left. There were plenty of Overall with the exception of the ending noise spike and the vocals not fitting into the mix, this is pretty awesome.
  13. Great arrangement, pretty horrible sound quality. It really says something when the judges mention how bad the sound quality was in 2002. There is plenty to appreciate here, however. The frantic runs and upbeat pace really do give this a manically cheerful mood, and that is something I can personally appreciate. All it needs are some squeaky Japanese girl voice acting and it's a low-budget anime theme song. This would probably get a 'skip' if it came up on my playlist. It's a shame the samples weren't better, because the treatment given to the theme is very thorough and well done.
  14. Eggplant wizard and I go way back, but we haven't always been the best of friends. When we first met, his intimidating stare and ability to turn me into an eggplant both gave me nightmares, and made me never eat an eggplant. I was bitter for a long long time. 21 years later, I have finally realized what a service he was doing me, since eggplants aren't especially tasty. Thank you, my friend; we shall never be apart again.
  15. An awesome and unexpected style-shift here, and it works very well. Improve some of the samples and it'd be a pretty definitive and classic OC remix. As is, though the lead brass instrument is pretty weak, and it drags down. Percussion is incredible though, the rhythms are perfect and they are nicely layered. The structure is very similar to the original, but the complete style overhaul actually makes the similarities welcome. The second iteration of the melody has the lead instruments vary up the melody a bit, with the steel drums especially adding some nice spice (maybe some jerk seasoning? ) He may be a LousySpy, but he's an excellent arranger.
  16. I was a bit wary at the beginning, as the sequencing of the flute seemed a bit shaky for the first few notes. The oboe response was in the same vein, but it was executed much better, and when the horn and strings came in, I was able to rest easy. This is a very delicate rendition of a fantastic theme, and though there are a parts I'm left wondering what the intent was (the ultrashrill piccolos at 2:25 for one), the end result is very emotive and lyrical up to the second section. The transition was a bit forced-sounding, but the section itself was fantastic, with a piano joining in with some snare to add some rhythmic interest. I thought that the second section could have been expanded on quite a bit, but it works as-is, though it would certainly feel more cohesive if both styles received equal treatment.
  17. The individual performances are all pretty solid, if a bit too loose, but the spirit is there. The room sound for a lot of different instruments don't quite match up, especially the drums, but there is still a lot to like in this piece. The piano playing excellent, especially the hardcore section at 2:39. You don't hear guys play like that unless they are fearing for their lives. Very awesome. The individual solos are all pretty good, especially the clean guitar one, and the sax interludes are great. It sounds like a pretty fun jam that even though the production leaves a bit to be desired, works out great in the end.
  18. old-school chiptune goodness on this one; Some of the frequencies on the high end can be a bit harsh, but the vibe of the track i thought was pretty good, except for the super weak drums. They seem like cardboard cutouts of the drums that should have been used. Flat and fakey. The patterns were also somewhat boring, but the kick drives the track pretty well. The lack of noticeable fills or variation hurt the track. There are some nice points, like the shimmering runs, and the lead tone chosen is pretty good, having presence, but keeping things from being too hardcore. The panning effects used throughout are very well done as well, making this extra interesting on headphones. Arrangement is pretty conservative but sounds unique due to the chiptune treatment. Overall pretty good, and I enjoyed this, despite some of the production issues.
  19. There's a lot of flaws in this one, but there is an undeniable charm that shines through regardless. It's a great source song as well, and though the samples throughout are pretty terrible, there's a nice song progression, and the arrangement itself is pretty good. Some of the parts are a bit choppy, like the solo bass part, and a bit of the piano playing, but despite this, it's still worth a listen.
  20. Production on this one is all over the place, but it does have some energy to it, and I can totally see how this was the shizz back in the day. The filtered, arped, and gated whatever-the-hell-it-is synth is very effective, and easily drives the track. The lead sound is a bit too laid back though for the rest of the track, and the percussion is mixed strangely, with a ton of air in it. The amount of progression is a small detriment, as there really ins't much more beyond sudden breakdowns and buildups; the transitions are break-neck as well, which I think make it sound a little out of control. Beats are decent but very straightforward. Not one of Jivemaster's best, but it holds up alright. Overall that synth carries the entire mix.
  21. the transitions on this one are strange due to the constantly shifting melodic focus, but overall it's a very pleasant listen throughout. I'd say aimless, but the connotations of that word are generally negative, and I mean it in a positive sense here. Maybe "free-spirited"? There isn't any real tension until near the very end, so the journey here is very casual and fun. Comparing this to the source is pretty eye-opening, as this really goes in a completely different direction, and though it does wander, the tone of it sortof encourages it to do so. Sunny fun from start to finish.
  22. I'm a huge fan of that panned glide synth at the beginning; I think that's such a classy technique overall. This is a very slowly-evolving piece, but there is a lot going on to keep it interesting at all times, though I think a few sections could have been stepped up a bit. The pads were great, but the acoustic-sampled instruments sounded pretty mechanical. That guitar especially was fakey sounding to me. There was a lot of percussion, but I didn't feel that it drove the song too well. The piano was fake sounding too, but i don't really have as much of an issue with that as I do the guitar. Guitar bias? Who knows. What the mix does excel on is it's soundscape and layers of textures, and it works very well as a new age piece. The transition between themes was also pretty seamless. Nice work.
  23. Excellent nostalgic feel to this one, and a lot of layering that subtly builds up the piece. Great piano comping and the beats and background fit together well. I almost wish some of the drums did some fills that matched the rhythm of some of the piano parts, but even as-is, it's excellent work. I didn't actually totally hear the source until near the end, because the feel was so strong. It's pretty obvious throughout, just shows how into this one I got. Recommended!
