  1. Congratulations, fxsnowy! I really liked your remix. All of you guys turned out solid remixes... very creative. I have to say I felt slightly embarrassed upon hearing the other entries after submitting my own... it was a rather basic use of the source in comparison with all your nifty re-arrangements. An upping of the game is in order I think. Until next time!
  2. Aha! Thanks Bundeslang, appreciate the inclusion. =)
  3. My slow internet betrayed me and I ended up missing the deadline. May as well post it here as a little bonus entry, though - http://picosong.com/gmx6/ By the way, hello. You might not remember me, I haven't ventured into this neck of the woods since 2011 I think! Anyway, I was glad to see that you're still keeping PRC going, Bundeslang. Nice one, Mate.
  4. I guess more people use MIDIs to remix than I realised. Still, you live and learn...
  5. I think the brass would sound more realistic if you add some reverb on it. Maybe stick another note in there to make a chord as well, that could work quite nicely. In terms of balance I think you can afford a lot more strings. Possibly slightly less brass. Hope this was helpful.
  6. No. Now get involved in the People's Remixing Competition.
  7. I like the brass. I would suggest maybe putting the notes up an octave and seeing how that sounds though, as the trumpets are playing very low. Or you could maybe layer a higher octave on top of the lower one you already have? I think that could work. I do miss the electric piano. It reminded me of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The standard piano does make it sound more orchestral though and probably does work better well with the brass you've added, so I'll forgive you. xD I think the piano might benefit from a bit more reverb on it, as if its being played in a concert hall. I think that would sound cool. What software are you using? Love the update, nice work!
  8. But it's such an epic track! The dude is expecting great things from you, sggod89!
  9. Sounds really awesome. Love it. I don't like the snare though. I'd go for a snap or rimshot sample instead. or go for a powerful snare with heavy reverb and go for an 80s type sound. The lead that comes in at 0:34 sounds a bit aggressive for this chill track I think. I'd go for a smoother synth, like a square wave type sound. Maybe with some glissando/portamento on there. At 1:16 it hits the chorus moment and I think you want to make it an epic moment. Get a counter-melody in there and fstten up the soundcape with some extra pads/strings or something. I think a bit climax here would really work. Have you considered putting those vocal samples through a filter? Nice work, really liking this mix!
  10. I don't know if you're still working on this, but I had a few thoughts when listening. First off, I love the groove and samples you've used. Sounds tight. I think you could have a bit more snap to your snare though. maybe bring up the high-end EQ a bit? Or layer a higher pitched snare sample over the top. I think that warbling synth might be a bit distracting. Possibly bring it down in the mix and bring the lead up. Hope this was of use. Nice work!
  11. I know you've tagged this as finished, but I'll just post a few things that came to mind as I was listening and hopefully some of it will be helpful. Are you using MIDI drums? I'd suggest getting hold of a rock drum kit for this track. It's a powerful remix and I think it needs powerful drums to drive it. What program did you use to make this tune? If by any chance it was fruity loops (what I use) then I reckon layer a couple of snares out of the FPC folder, same with the kicks. I love that synth that comes in at 0:18. It sounds fat. More of this! In your techno section starting 0:59 I think you want a big, punchy kick drum. When you EQ you might want to take down the muddy low/mid sounds in the sample and boost the low end and somewhere towards the end to get the punch. Sounds really cool, nice work.
  12. Epic. Your friend's really rocking that electric piano. I feel like the strings could be brought up in volume to match the piano and bass. Also, it would be cool to hear some variation in the string part, maybe some runs or tremello stuff to add interest. In one of my WIPs I had a similar long held note in the strings and someone suggested changing notes every so often, so I'll pass on that wisdom. xD Hope some of that was helpful!
  13. I like it, you should definitely continue working on it. I have a few thoughts that might be helpful. When the strings come in 8 seconds in, it sounds muddy and I think you would benfit from bringing up the high-end in the EQ. I think you could also add some higher octaves in there. I think the hi-hat is too loud compared to the kick and snare. Perhaps layer another couple of snare sounds to get a more powerful hit. Same with the kick I think, needs to be a bit more punchy, or just brought forward in the mix. At 0:27 I think the new drums come in too loud. If you're going for a big drop type thing, maybe bring up the volume of the other instruments to match the dominant drums. Hope this was helpful.
  14. I think the pads/strings are a bit muddy. Perhaps if you EQ them and add more high-end they might sparkle a bit more. I love the drums. I feel like the bass could have more presence to match the power of the drums. Maybe bring it forward in the mix a bit. I think the opening section could be stripped back a bit, possibly use less instruments there because I think it would make the drop at 0:45 more thrilling. Or add more instruments from when the drums kick in here. Either way, I think you want a bigger drop. Love what you have so far! Nice work!
  15. Two Minds Without a Single Thought - For me, the most original and interesting remix. The guitar/synth combo did its job, with the guitar holding down the rocking riff whilst the synth explored the melody. The two instruments are sometimes slightly out of time with one another, but not enough for it to affect the groove IMO. It could be that you have some delay when you record audio and it doesn't quite sync with the midi. You could try manually dragging notes to align with the other instrument if out of time, I've had to do this sometimes. I like the dubstep-esque drum patterns and the kick and snare sound pretty damn good to me, but you might not have the notes snapped exactly to the beats. I'm not sure, but try snapping to 16 and it should be bang in time. Compositionally, I really enjoyed the mix.
  16. Fair play mate! I'm PMed my source to you. Looking forward to hearing what people come up with.
  17. I just wanted to say that I think the reverb and flute sounds make it sound 80s. And the combination of synth pads and that cheesy lead guitar stuff strikes me as very 80s as well. Really enjoyed the remix!
  18. I don't know if it's just me but I felt the drums could afford to be mixed a lot louder. Perhaps bring the lead guitar down. The guitar playing was great and I really enjoyed the arrangement. Hope this has been helpful! Cheers.
  19. I love the sounds you've used. The intro is very tense and exciting, then you've stripped it back at 0:21 when the tune comes in. I feel like you could be slowly layering all the sounds up during this section - creating tension, then bring it to an exciting climax at 1:04 with the tune really exploding. Perhaps strip back the instrumentation even more at 0:21 to make a climax even more powerful? Just a thought, hope this was helpful. Nice work!
  20. Hahaha! Brilliant. Not sure what I can offer in the way of constructive criticism. xD What was the inspiration behind this work?
  21. Hi guys, I'm working on a remix of Song of Storms from Zelda. I'd really appreciate some comments and suggestions! Thanks very much. Alex. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10999021/songofstormsremix4.mp3
  22. Sorry, this will be the most unhelpful post ever but I just wanted to say I absolutely love this. Great stuff.
