  1. How are you djentlemen? Ok it's not that djenty but I hear hints in the rhythm guitar. Not bad at all. A few iffy sounds here and there but the core rock elements are pretty solid. A little repetitive like my jooj-brethrin suggest but the rhythm tracks are pretty varied and inventive. Loving the influx of (what I assume) is eight-string guitars being submitted. YES
  2. Hrmmmm... Really not sure on this one. There are some sections where everything is peachy and awesome (see 1:33 when the drums enter), and there are some (pretty much all the quieter bits) where it just doesn't get the theme across or you're trying to do something clever with the harmony and convoluting it. Combine that with the longer length and you have several phases of 'this is cool, not sure where this is going, this is cool, don't get this bit' etc. I think the main issue here for me is the way you've gone about the orchestration is making me expect something emotive, and then it just doesn't quite deliver. It could be the samples, it could be the sequencing/production, or it could be the chips just taking me out of the zone. I'm pretty sure it's all three. I feel bad rejecting this because you've clearly put a lot of work into this but I'm just not feeling it as a whole, despite the intermittent passages of niceness. I wouldn't be annoyed if this ends up passing but I need more of a reason then I can hear you've put a lot of work into it to get behind it. NO
  3. ilp0 is my favouritest remixer. I don't know this game at all (probably why it's on the Unsung album huh), but this is just generally awesome music as usual.
  4. Cool beans. A wip is awesome welcome.

  5. Happy Birthday you crafty avenger you.
  6. Also you can adjust how close the microphones are together on that stereo bar, you just push them backwards and forwards within their individual clips so they are being gripped at the front or the back.
  7. Apparently people want a more definite approximate release date. I aiming for March, if that's any help.
  8. I use youtubelols. Always by ear. If it's too fast I use something to slow it down. Very occasionally I enjoy trying to do something I know very well from memory only (see http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02272/ ). I didn't listen to it at all throughout the making process.
  9. You'll know when I know, there's a bunch of projects out first so it's not up to me.
  10. They make a raspberry flavoured one if you want a delicious drink that isn't really a beer anymore.
  11. Got a whole bunch of wavs today/yesterday. Good stuff. Trying to keep things updated as I go. EDIT: I didn't keep up with giving new guys permission to the secret forums, which was a bit of a shame. Not much point in using it now.
  12. The only remix that is released that I will listen and actually enjoy is Estharian airs. There are also two or three tracks I did for the ffix album I can listen to on repeat. Most of those were collabs though. Everything else I've made I try not to listen to because my production has come a long way since most of that stuff and it just bugs me.
  13. Yeah just to re-iterate, this move was not intended to pressure anyone I'm sure. It was meant to just let people know it was already in the works, and make their own minds up if they want to crack on. More power to ya! And then the new policy was put in to make sure this situation doesn't happen again.
  14. To be fair a few members of staff (myself included) were getting annoyed by not being able to tell these guys about those projects. It just takes a week or two to talk about it and decide if we need a new policy or not. Combine that with magfest taking up everyones time, I think they responded reasonably quickly for something like this without precedent.
  15. Awesome to be getting some baller updates. I'll be tracking people down who haven't finished and making sure I get something in the next few days. If you're rushing to get something in for tomorrow feel free to take a few days to polish it up in the meantime.
  16. sgx made one or two reason files available, that's all I've seen so far.
  17. You don't have to follow key at all, if you can pull it off musically and recognisably.
  18. I didn't make any apparently, here are my 2012 resolutions: - Graduate with a first f'shizz - Get a dayum job once that happens - Write an original album for once - Find or start a proper band - Get better at guitar That'll do for now.
  19. I am an audio engineer . These are my views on monitoring equipment. My favourite systems are invariable very large full-range soffit-mounted monitors. Where that isn't available large mid-field monitoring setups are usually great too. I'm really not a fan of small near-field stuff but that's all that works at home. KRK Rokkits are just about my least favourite speaker in existence. Bower's and Wilkins all the way. The 300 series are awesome. In-ear headphones are a bad idea in my opinion. They are simply too small to be anywhere near full-range with any degree of smoothness. Proper open-back headphones are definitely the way to go.
  20. It's in the FAQ, http://ocremix.org/info/Frequently_Asked_Questions#Why_aren.27t_the_ReMixes_categorized_by_genre.2C_i.e._techno.2C_jazz.2C_orchestral.2C_etc..3F There is however a tagging system going on that works a better for OCR, so you can tag remixes with guitar, or chiptune etc without clumsy genre shoving. I don't know too much about it, hopefully someone else will chip in.
  21. Also any attempt at this is incredibly redundant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_popular_music_genres
