  1. Answer: As much rock as the Willrock will rock if the Willrock will rock rock. Sorry, didn't mean to meddle, man! Love the harmony at 3:13.
  2. Fun mix! But what you call "confusing" I call "interesting." I wouldn't be afraid to change up the instruments--twelve minutes is quite a length for even the greatest of timbres. I would also reconsider your generous use of cymbals in the FF1 sections, starting at 0:58 and 1:21. It is pretty funny, though.
  3. Wow, you were pretty much right on with your whole post, especially this part.
  4. Most people probably noticed already, but the title of this remix is an anagram of the title of the game. That is just intense, Justin Tense.
  5. Hey man, great mix. On my first listening, the moment I heard the vocals, I thought, "What? He's going to ruin a perfectly good source tune by singing it?" But let me tell you, friend, that I was dead wrong. The vocals are AMAZING, and I especially dig your harmony. The end kinda reminds me of "Gangster's Paradise," going all a capella like that. That's a GOOD thing, by the way. Another highlight for me is the contrast of the high-timbred (if that's even a word) synth and percussion with the warm piano, and especially vibes, which show up in the middle/end of the song. I wouldn't mind hearing those vibes louder or more often throughout. I also LOVE that you do a key change, but it feels really abrupt to me. On my first listening, I was expecting the motif to keep moving upwards, and was disappointed to hear it go from a C# minor chord (or is it Db minor?) to an Eb minor chord and stop there. I accepted it after I realized it was a key change, but I still think I would prefer a buildup where the synth goes something like E-EEE-C#-F#-F#F#F#-D#-G#-G#G#G#-E-Bb-BbBbBb-F-Bb (sorry for all the enharmonics and weird notation). Now you have a bunch of tension on the Bb, because it's the raised sixth in the old key of C# minor. Then there's a brief pause, followed by the vocals coming in on the and of three (Bb-Ab-Gb, in the melody), and then on the downbeat of the next measure the synth resolves upward to a C flat (or is it a B natural?). Booyah! And you still have two measures to build up the energy before you get to the tonic of your new key! I also feel that the synth could do something different after the key change instead of the same old, same old. Maybe throw in a couple arpeggios or some original material, and let someone else like the vibes take a turn at the dah da-da dah dah motif. You probably shouldn't take too much of my advice, though. It'd be a shame to turn this masterpiece into something less than what it could be because you listened to some hack comp student. I'm excited to hear the finished product!
  6. Right... but there are 1000+ pages. EDIT: Found it. Do we know thirteen, or is that Game and Watch?
  7. So, R.O.B.'s logo (gyroscope thingy) is number 19. Anyone have that list with all the others?
  8. Lost Vikings 1 and 2 are pretty good. Oh, and...
  9. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but... Zelda 1: first game with a battery save. Ocarina of Time: first game to have a Z-targeting system. Pitfall: first platformer.
  10. Or Noah. He can carry Bowser, DK, and Dedede simultaneously--all balanced on a Chansey egg--and his final smash is a flood.
  11. Why would they make such a point to add the word "anonymously" if there weren't a non-anonymous (nominal?) mode that could be played with people you don't know? All I want for Christmas is a Belmont. And Mega Man. And a real online mode. What else are you going to do if someone's connection fails? Let's consider the alternatives. Playing with CPUs > playing against Sandbag (though that would be funny) > playing against nobody >> waiting 45 seconds to drop the player, then quitting the game because he was your teammate. Hahaha StarCraft.
  12. I think we determined several hundred pages ago that Sakurai (or one of his employees) reads what we're predicting or discussing on this forum, as evidenced by his occasionally posting an update about it the next day. Of course, it could have been a series of coincidences. Assuming the former, however, it follows that what we say here is not merely read but has the potential to change the course of video game history. I for one would welcome another two-month delay if it meant the inclusion of an online mode with rankings and more options, the beginning of Nintendo's march into true online gaming. Not that that would take two months to program. And not that they haven't already implemented one (see DuskyFerret's sound reasoning). If Sakurai wants to keep the ranking mode a surprise, this is not a bad way to do it. Also, what's the difference between "the items that are turned off in the item switch are also determined by lottery" and "all items are turned on"? Answer: nothing, if the rounds are short enough. This gives me hope because it means that perhaps it will randomly pick one of the four settings for the four players involved, supporting the theory Bean has suggested. For example, if all four players have their settings on no items, then there will be no items in that round. Another thought: Brawl is to be released in Japan on January 24th. What should be our agreement on putting spoiler warnings around unreleased characters, stages, assist trophies, and the Subspace plot at that time? I propose we keep everything hidden until February 14th. Why so late? It's easy to remember (Valentine's Day) and allows us to participate in the First Official OverClocked SSBB Tournament without fear of having that information spoiled for us (except for the characters/stages that our opponents have unlocked). P.S. Thanks for the compliment, Atma!
  13. We don't even know whether we can do 1v1 yet. Probably not. I actually don't mind time in free for alls; ffa stocks can involve a lot of ganging up on the player with the most lives left. Hopefully we'll be able to set our online preferences for things like stock vs. time, stock number, item switch, etc. Oh, and number of players. If I were to make an online mode, I'd think I would allow people to play in random one-on-one matches.
  14. HIP TANAKA!!!! SWEET!!!! He was the composer I wanted to see most in the first musicians update. I had been disappointed not to see his name on that list, but I figured it was pretty unlikely that anyone could get him away from his job as president of Creatures and back into gaming music. And here he is, champion of 12/8 time and musician behind such greats as Kid Icarus and Metroid. And others: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_Tanaka
  15. ~More like~ Sakurai-san: "How's the game coming along, boys?" Sakurai's Boys: "Just putting the finishing touches on it now. Should be ready by 2:00 today, in plenty of time for the December 3 release date." Sakurai-san: "WHAAAT? NOOOO! We can't release this game until the OC Remix group reaches page 1000!! Push it back!" Boy 1: "To what? They're going at about 100 pages per month, so they should be ready well before Christmas." Sakurai-san: "Naaaa! Whaaaa!!! Okay then, after Christmas." Boy 1: "But they can still post in the thread after the game comes out. I mean, it's not like they have to start--" Sakurai-san: "Quiet. What am I going to tell them on the website?" Boy 1: "We could tell them we're adding a new character." Boy 2: "Yeah, can we add Sonic? PLEASE? I've already coded him..." Sakurai-san: "Fine, whatever. I'll put that on the site now." Boy 1: "And can I add Mega Man?" Boy 3: "I wanna play as Simon Belmont. Waa." Boy 4: "I've already coded Alucard, Brian, Geno, Miis, Mog, Rayman, Rygar, Ryu Hyabusa, and Talim." Sakurai-san: "Well, aren't you just the over-achiever?" Boy 4: "Well, I did tell them to you in alphabetical order..." Sakurai-san: "I bet you think you're getting a pay raise for that. We can put them in, but we'll have to balance all the characters. That puts us at February 10th in USA." Boy 3: "Waa again." Sakurai-san: "And I'll tell them the game needs 'polish.' Do you think anyone will believe that, though?" Boy 1: "They always have." Sakurai-san: "Good."
  16. The four hidden characters from the original Smash Bros. are still hidden, and may continue to be so until December 3rd. I think it's a throwback to the N64 game that we have to unlock them all again. "But since I have no talent, I'll put it in Haiku form." These four shall return: Captain Falcon, Luigi, Ness, and Jigglypuff.
  17. I made up a death list as I was reading. Here are all the deaths I wrote down, in the order the reader is informed of them. (Page numbers are from the American version of the book.) p. 12 - Charity Burbage p. 56 - Hedwig p. 78 - Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody p. 159 - Rufus Scrimgeour p. 233 - Gregorovitch's wife, and perhaps two children p. 280 - Gregorovitch p. 340 - Bathilda Bagshot p. 377 - Slytherin's locket, Horcrux #3 p. 439 - Ted Tonks, Dirk Cresswell, Gornuk, five muggles p. 471 - Peter Pettigrew p. 472 - Grindelwald p. 476 - Dobby p. 549 - a Gringotts goblin et al. p. 619 - two gargoyles p. 623 - Hufflepuff's cup, Horcrux #4 p. 634 - Vincent Crabbe p. 635 - Ravenclaw's diadem, Horcrux #5 p. 637 - Fred Weasley p. 658 - Severus Snape p. 661 - Remus Lupin, Nymphadora "Tonks" Lupin p. 694 - Colin Creevey p. 704 - Harry Potter, Horcrux #6 p. 733 - Nagini, Horcrux #7 p. 737 - Bellatrix Lestrange (or at least cursed) p. 744 - Voldemort I think the only additions here are the horcruxes, Gregorovitch's family, gargoyles, and Bellatrix.
  18. That's awesome. I'll never need a tuning fork again. And on topic, there should definitely be a pentatonic variation and a wind chimes variation.
  19. I just got back from a certain movie, and I'm hoping to see OptiMetroid Prime fight Gigatron in Transformers II. The latter will be assisted by Star FoxScream, of course. And Ness wearing yellow looks like a Bumblebee.
  20. I played through the game with four black belts earlier this year. Your guys actually don't gain anything except a dumber-looking sprite when they class change to master. This was a pretty big disappointment to me. Once they get to level ten, though, they start hitting twice or four times or something pretty cool, so, yeah, they're hard to stop. The upsides to four BBs is that you pretty much never miss your opponents, and you get a lot stronger from level ups. The downsides are the lack of variety, not being able to do much of anything with weapons or armor (except heal helmets, which you have to use about ten times per battle), and having to buy a bajillion healing potions. I enjoyed it, but then again, I enjoy my pancakes without syrup. I would have enjoyed Quest 64 a lot more if my brothers hadn’t told me how stupid it was. They must have seen that same article, because they kept telling me I was playing "Trip to the Dentist." I played through it anyway.
  21. Speaking of Mario 64, was it in that game that you would be standing on a slope, press Z, and start to slide down said slope? Perhaps Wario is sliding because the player is making him crouch as he lands. And the Nintendo World trailer made very clear that moving forward and backward while crouched was a possibility.
  22. Maybe your friends have complained about how they always seem to die right after the crowd cheers for them. That's because the other thing that happens when you reach 100% is that you are eligible for getting cheers. I don't know why they need the percent symbol, though. I was kind of hoping we'd just see a number in Brawl, but I guess it's a tradition now. What's 3S? Super Smash Siblings? My brother's name is Michael, my middle name is Thomas, and my first name is obvious. That picture means a lot to me. Oh! And if I squint, I think I see Jigglypuff on the right-hand side of the blurred-out character screen. Or some character with two eyes, anyway. And I keep imagining a Lost Woods level when I listen to that Ocarina of Time medley. Sunbeams peeking through the trees... Falcon whipping out his knees...
  23. I've thought for the last year or so now that Master Chief and Samus Aran should get married. But this wasn't *quite* how I'd envisioned it.
