  1. Yeah, I'm kind of against that, seeing as getting a write-up from DJP himself is supposed to be one of the perks of getting posted. I really don't care anymore how much longer it'll take to get my songs posted, I just don't want an out-sourced write-up for it Also holy shit, how whiny are you, hoboka? How you can interpret DSes response as a 'punch in the throat' is beyond me.
  2. Started with A, now mostly C.
  3. http://www.tindeck.com/listen/ydcf Timing is a bit off in places, enjoy source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iof5pRAIZmw
  4. ... You might want to correct your definition of thrash metal because it's anything BUT simple. Thrash metal has 7+ minute songs, huge amounts of alternating riffs rather than a simple verse/chorus structure and often even time signature changes. How that's supposed to be simpler than some chiptune is beyond me. VGM isn't 'better', VGM caters to the purpose of creating a mood that specifically works within the context it's placed in. This is why listening to VGM by itself without having heard it within the game before is something I'll only do if someone recommends it to me or wants me to remix it, and even then I probably won't enjoy it as much.
  5. Started in 2006 making music in 2006, quit for a year, started around summer 2007 again, got my first remix accepted in early 2008, and still waiting for it to be posted. Yeah, making music comes pretty naturally to me, I guess you could call it talent. My production skills definitely took some time to catch up with arrangement though. If I weren't so goddamn lazy I would probably be way further.
  6. Okay, todays session was pretty awesome, I'll be playing more often again. Also, Brushfire is forever banned from the list of people I heal when I play medic.
  7. IMO the best spot for Death toll is in the corners of the veranda at the back of the house (under the balcony). It's relatively open so you can see most threats coming (i.e. no tanks right in your face out of nowhere), and the infected aren't able to attack you from behind (as opposed to the balcony).
  8. zomg swedish hax!

  9. A campaign game on expert gone horribly wrong gave us some rather interesting pics.
  10. As long as you're the lobby leader it should work, it's just that sometimes the server you're looking for is offline or something, which is why the 'no server found' message will pop up. "sv_search_key ocremix" works for me (as long as the server is online that is )
  11. It sounds a lot more complicated than it really is. It usually just involves a boosted shelving EQ around 10k Hz (maybe lower) that mainly adds some 'sparkle' to the cymbals and stuff. I do this because I'm kind of conditioned towards perceiving more treble as higher/ more professional quality (because for example low-quality youtube vids have sound that has the high-end filtered, so I guess it works the opposite way too? )
  12. Another thing I like to do during the mastering phase is adding the high-end 'air', which, if done correctly, will give a mix more high-end shine and a perceived higher quality sound (of course it comes down to taste, I prefer mixes quite trebly in general). I usually either use a subtle high-end shelving filter or harmonic excitation to achieve this, but it's REALLY easy to overdo so it's absolutely necessary to keep a point of reference. The "roll-off the low end on everything but the kick and the bass" wouldn't really be mastering, would it? Since you're doing it for each instrument individually, I'd call it mixing.
  13. I do most of my mixing on headphones but when I move on to mastering I tend to switch between headphones and consumer grade 5.1 speakers (with subwoofer) for every significant change I make. Even cheapo speakers will give you a different impression than headphones and make some things more noticable while covering up others. As an example, what happens to me often is that I spend hours getting a big snare sound with the exact right amount of reverb, then I switch to speakers and notice the snare sounds way too dry due to the reverb signal getting masked by other stuff. Indeed the best advice for mastering I've ever had was from zircon; turn down the master track -6 dB or so before your mastering plugins, then use a combination of (multiband?) compression, maximizers and limiters to bring the track up to the desired level and fullness.
  14. goddamnit bleck why are you friends with lukethexjesse you crossed the line there man

  17. Might as well spam my channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Noir6666 Does not only have most of my VGM remixes but also a few lot of one-time anime covers I do when I'm bored.
  18. You know, posting a thread about this here is kind of like posting a thread about the International Day of Sport on a support forum for morbidly obese people.
  19. Judging by his last few movies he doesn't exactly specialize in directing either oh yeah i went there
  20. I like Baldur's Gate 2 and Planescape: Torment for their epic storylines, in-depth dialogue and compelling characters. Not to mention awesome combat/magic systems (AD&D rules just work so well). Also length is a huge plus. When I can play a game for over 100 hours without getting bored or even finishing it for the first time..Well they must have done something right, right?
  21. I've given this a lot of thought, and thus I hope my opinion will at least be heard by those it's primarily directed at. Notwithstanding of course, I do expect my opinion on this matter might be perceived as somewhat rude, in the sense that it might be considered offensive by the addressees, of whom I wouldn't expect anything less than polite and well-argumented deconstruction of my undoubtedly flawed opinion. For truly, is man's greatest achievement not the ability to politely discuss, with appropriately used eloquence, though of course not at the cost of necessary brevity, while altogether forgoing the use of unnecessary subordinate clauses which would serve no purpose other than making the uttered sentences rather convoluted for the sole sake of keeping up an appearance of a better education than one might in fact have, any topic, no matter how controversial or already, perhaps futilely discussed many times before? Matters of unnecessary semantics and bolding of arbitrary words in a futile attempt to emphasize them aside, upon reading through this thread, one can't help but start debating within himself what could be an appropriate response to the subject matter at hand? Long have I pondered about what I would write in response, but truly, is it not preferable to properly plan one's essay, as opposed to randomly adding a string of thoughts filled with vapid fluff from the dark nooks of the internet's thesauri? Of course, I like to think I am capable of formulating my opinion in an extremely brief way, so I am proud to announce that this post will really not contain any unnecessary words or ideas at all; This is truly as brief as my capabilities permit me to formulate my opinion, and I'm sure that the majority of you fine readers will agree with me on this. So, without further ado, after this brief but necessary introduction, I am proud to bring you to the main point of my well considered opinion. Here goes: I think viagra spam threads are a better read than this shit.
