  1. Can we integrate something onto the Album reference page (such as this: http://ocremix.org/album/3/super-metroid-relics-of-the-chozo) that shows which remixes from the album have been posted? Those pages look sort of crowded but if the album associations are already in the database, it shouldn't logistically be too difficult to implement, right? Thanks for this!
  2. http://baddudes.bandcamp.com/album/chronotorious Mazedude made a mix of this song for this album, but you've gotta pay for it. The album is well worth it though
  3. Just wanted to say that I still love this remix If I could critique anything, I'd point out that the drum sequencing is pretty bland at times and the samples aren't necessarily amazing either :\ It doesn't bring down the song much but it's a notable sore spot in an otherwise-fantastic mix.
  4. Yeah, I get the abrupt transition idea, it's just something about the timing that seems off to me; I'm going from memory right now because Tindeck is blocked at school but I remember the initial drumbeat coming in at a weird time. Just to clarify what I meant by that. Glad I could help!
  5. Not gonna go into full-on feedback mode, but I will say that your strings sample is sounding unrealistic here, both in articulation and sample quality :\ Might want to look at that yourself or get a second opinion on how to improve that, if you decide you're not content with it as-is. That said though, your arrangement is soooo good Loving this, this is some very creative, inspired, and highly cinematic orchestral that I can definitely enjoy. Hope this makes it onto the site at some point!
  6. Your drum samples seem reeeaaallly thin and quiet, but with this kind of music they should be packing a lot more punch. I get the same feeling from some of your guitar tones, but with the guitar it's a lot less noticeable and doesn't impede the song nearly as much. The transition between the chiptune intro and the metal part is not very good at all, to be honest :\ The timing makes it sound totally tacked on instead of flowing smoothly like it should, which is a shame because I like the idea of using the original chiptune as part of this song because of the notoriety that comes with the GB Megaman 2 soundtrack Other than those issues, I just feel like you could do more with this song in terms of soloing and personalization, especially on the synth writing that comes in every once and a while. There's tons of room for some great sequencing there but instead you stick with some pretty simple note melodies. Take it to the next level brah. This is actually pretty damn close to the bar though, and I think you nailed it with the clean guitar and soloing parts (the performance might have been a little loose with the clean guitar now that I listen again, check that out and see if you agree. Other than that, though, that section was awesome!) Just do a bit more to make the performance and sequenced parts stand out more - I don't know what the actual names are for those little inflections you can put into a guitar performance but I'm sure you can come up with something! Run with this, it shouldn't take too much more effort to get it where it needs to be
  7. Yeah, I do agree that you did a good job with emulating the style of Kraftwerk, and I meant to give you props for doing that well But I agree with Nutritious that it might be hard to get a song past the panel in this style unless the production and arrangement ideas are really stellar.
  8. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I think this suffers from the same issues as your last Zelda metal remix; the mixing is not nearly as clean as it should be and your rhythm guitars/drums are obscuring your leads or drowning them out, which definitely detracts from the overall effect Your performance is solid and your soloing is very enjoyable, it feels very personalized Your guitar tone is also very adeptly chosen; in general, anything to do with guitars seem to be the strong point of your mixes. You're working with some subpar samples for both drums and orchestral instruments, unfortunately, which makes the parts that aren't supported by rhythm/lead guitars seem lackluster. I think if you spent some time searching through free or cheap sample libraries, you could come up with some much fuller sounding samples that could greatly benefit your songs. Other nitpicks: there's a moment in the synth line where the groove on the lead gets cut off and it just sounds weird at 1:11. The ending, too - where is it? It kinda just trails off with no conclusion, which definitely hurts the song overall Really, I think you should try and talk to someone like sixto or any of the people on The Shizz forums who can help you get down the production for this style of music; it's tough to get it sounding right but I still think you're falling short of the bar on the production side and it's going to hurt your chances of passing the panel. Someone who knows the ins-and-outs of this maximalist style of metal/rock would be able to help you infinitely more than I can, but I do know that this likely wouldn't make it past the OCR panel if you submitted it. Tighten up your production and get some better instrumental samples, it would do your arrangements a world of justice and I think you could get something past the panel soon enough if you put in the effort Best of luck!
  9. I'm not as big of a fan of this mix as the previous poster, and from an objective standpoint (which is what I try to take when I do mod reviews) I have to come down even harder on this mix. I don't think it's close to being able to pass the panel, unfortunately Some issues that stand out most to me - the vocal clips come across as pretty gimmicky, especially since they're repeated so often throughout the song. The codec noises toward the end were a much nicer touch. The synth choice and the arrangement in general is probably the biggest problem bogging this mix down though. I don't mean to be harsh, but it's a textbook example of generic techno and that kind of stuff doesn't generally tend to fly on the OCR panel. There's a few moments where you get some sonic embellishments or glitch effects that really stand out above the rest of the mix, but they're few and far between and the building blocks of your track aren't interesting or unique enough to give this song much of an edge. My recommendation - chalk this up to a learning experience and keep expanding your abilities in future mixes, taking time to search for more unique sounds, using more processing and effects, and coming up with less repetitive arrangement ideas. I think it would take too much effort to get this up to the OCR bar that you could better apply to making new mixes. I know I've come across pretty harsh on this mix - it's not that it's necessarily bad, and given the source it's actually a pretty good adaptation, it's just that sonically, your mix is very plain and there's not much to set it apart from all the other techno/dance mixes that go past the panel, aside from the vocal effects which grew stale fast, as well. Hope you're able to see where I'm coming from and why this probably isn't suited for the OCR panel - lemme know if you need anything expanded or clarified!
  10. It's a very charming arrangement, I've listened to it a few times and I don't have any qualms with production or arrangement. I think your bride-to-be and everyone else there will be quite satisfied with this The only thing that I can think of is... extend the sustain on the final note so it doesn't cut off so quickly. Otherwise? It sounds good to me, haha. I love the Final Fantasy homage Congratulations!
  11. Things have been kinda slow lately, but we should have some WAVs on tap soon Harjawaldar, Theophany, GSlicer (x2) and Radiowar are all sitting at silver status. The rest of you though, it'd be nice to hear something from you, especially those of you still at red status. Let's keep a steady flow going on here! And for those of you who have been shooting me updates or at least working on your songs, thank you very much! It's appreciated! I was right! Radiowar's song is finished and it's damn good. He's put a lot of effort into it and it's come a long way since the first WIP I received, I think you'll all be happy with what came out of his efforts!
  12. Monobrow pretty much hit the same issues that I think are dragging down your awesomely-arranged WIP. Piano is a little overcompressed and not-very-organic - something more along the lines of the sound you used for your solo piano improvs from Super Metroid and Mario Galaxy would suit this well IMO. The mixing is kind of dull too, though I think it improves slightly as the mix goes along, especially with regards to the flute, which seemed almost too unassuming when it first came in. Like Katie said, just EQ the hell out of this until you get things where they need to be, emphasis-wise Sorry for the vague feedback but I'm sure you've got the chops to take care of this. Amazing arrangement so far, keep at it man
  13. proto iz a magick man -- he maek me disapeer! D:

  14. Link's Awakening and Super Dodgeball have both been in the works longer than this one
  15. Naaah, that's not it :s

The truth is somewhere between what you and Will said.

  16. This is an incredible remix. I could go on and on about it, but I specifically want to comment on the AMAZING ambient noises that you used in the intro of the song. They remind me of the sounds that play in LOST whenever anyone goes near the cabin... hopefully that reference will resonate with someone EDIT: Well, there's so much to this song I guess I could expand on my favorite parts a bit. First off, Tepid's guitar is a marked improvement from his work on Permutation - the performance is better and the guitar tone is MUCH more appropriate. The acoustic flair at the end of the song is one of my favorite touches in the whole song I'm also highly impressed with both vocalists, though I think they both shined a lot more in the second verse than in the first. Halc's right, it's a huge nostalgia explosion and I just get giddy everytime I listen to this song during the guitar solo and everything after that. This is everything I've come to expect from a Nicole mix - simple, but with a lot of attention to ambiance and detail, coupled with some brilliant vocal performances... this is one of my favorite vocal mixes on the site! Definitely a standout mix in almost all regards.
  17. Ok, help me out here. I spent all night looking through my chat logs but I can't find it... a long while ago you linked me to this Canadian folk-ish singer, and I loved her music. I can't remember who she is though D:

Jenny-something? I don't know, but I need to know these things!

  18. And Will, if we can successfully kidnap him and drag him out here.

  19. Alright bitch, we're going to Magfest 9. You me and Proto, we're gonna tear up the east coast.

  20. Y'alls should talk to Robotaki, he's got a 99% complete WIP of the Menu Theme that might be suited for the project
  21. [y] r u asking me dis?

  22. Your sound choices are nice but they seem like really low quality samples, which bogs down the mix a little bit. The arrangement is also very conservative and repetitive, which makes it not very suitable for OCR. That said, I think from a listener's standpoint this is your most enjoyable mix yet. It's soothing and there's some nice countermelodies involved, everything is in time and there's not any terrible dissonance, so good job on the improvement!
  23. Dude, I got this instantly when you first posted the thread
