  1. For the EW orchestra stuff, you need to link a midi out to the plugin, then assign the CC expression to the midi controller to automate it. For example: -Load ewqlso into a channel -Load an instrument sample into the first slot in ewqlso -Go to the settings button and assign MIDI IN to port 1 -add a midi out channel -Set it to port 1, channel 1. any notes you write on the midi out now will control the instrument in slot 1 of ewqlso (this is how you can utilize multiple instruments from a single instance of ewql) -Right click the a knob on the MIDI out channel -Name it Mod wheel or expression or whatever you want, set the CC value to 11. This is expression, which controls velocity and timbre on crossfade (dxf) instrument patches. Lets you do smooth crescendos and decrescendo's, etc. -Highlight the playlist for the length you want to automate the expression (ctrl + drag mouse on measure numbers) -Right click the midi out knob and click create automation clip EDIT: curses, foiled again
  2. Hah I was just thinking the same thing. I'll do it tonight if noone else does.
  3. There's an old free beta version they released prior to the full version if you can find it. It doesn't have all the goodies as I understand it, but still pretty powerful. I don't have a link, unfortunately, so be careful if you're going to go looking for it.
  4. Have you tried redownloading it? I show 20 patches when I start up PLAY. Did you get all 3 parts of the download installed/extracted? Have you tried opening it and checking which patches are available?
  5. You using Kompakt or PLAY version of EWQL? I've found turning on Fixed Size Buffers on PLAY helps stability in FL.
  6. Ok, I just posted a new version of the FL Orchestral template with this new EWQL sampleset. FL users can grab it in this thread. In case anyone's curious, here's the final version of the demo song using these (and other) samples:
  7. Given the release of a Free version of EWQL, I've totally retooled this project file with new samples and a better setup. Download links on the first post.
  8. Ok, got this set up and whipped up a pretty quick demo song using the free EWQL samples and a few other free synths/samples: I'll release the FL Studio project file after I get it cleaned up and packaged nicely.
  9. Yes, yes, and hopefully There's some good quality patches with this orch pack here, I think there's huge potential in it. Just gotta figure out exactly how Play works first.
  10. Hmm, this looks like a good opportunity to make a new version of my FL orchestral template. Already DL'd, gonna install later.
  11. Hey guys, not sure the quality of these since I just grabbed them, but xoxos has put up all their normally paid VST for free today. Grab them near the bottom of the frontpage: www.xoxos.net
  12. Sweet mix man, it's come a long way since you first showed it to me. Drums are rockin as usual & everything sounds cohesive. In case you didn't already know OA can deliver, look no further.
  13. Ahh, I envy sephfire's synth skills. Things filter and modulate at the start to really intertwine several parts. I would've liked to hear live electric guitar filling out the low end here, rather than the sample/synth one (which doesn't appear much, it doesn't sound like). Anyway, great glitching, gating, and other synthy nonsense to keep things interesting. 2:03 finally brings in some full-force stuff, ending listener suspense. Things can get pretty busy in sections, but this is overall good stuff from sephire.
  14. Well, right off you can tell this is early-ocr stuff. Very simple synths and a pretty cover-ish arrangement. It's a great source, no doubt, which gives this a bit of listening power. There are a couple elements which work better than the rest: namely that bass synth which fills out the low end nicely when it comes in, and also some of the drum work (though it gets really repetative). A synth upgrade and much more expansive arrangement would really help here.
  15. Capable orchestral take here. The samples aren't stellar, but they work here for the most part. I really wasn't that into the original when I first heard it, so that's probably why this one isn't doing a whole lot for me personally.
  16. Very cool, spacious intro - it really sets the mood. I always struggle with intro's, so I envy those who make it sound so easy and natural. Things continue to flow seamlessly as the piano and other elememts kick in. Nice acoustic guitar work as well to change things up. Nothing really to complain about here - the song is very capably written and produced and is a very enjoyable listen.
  17. Hmm, piano feeling really rigid to start things off. Arrangement is pretty minimal and is basically coverish, with some extra piano notes. Sorry, couldn't really get into this one... there's just nothing interesting going on for me.
  18. Very industrial feel to start off, which is very appropriate given the source. Things kick in with the beat very nicely, keeping the energy flowing. Prot has a reputation for great arrangements and production and this is no different. One weak point in this song is the unrealistic brass samples, which are lower quality compared to most of the other elements. It's not to the point where it's really distracting as a listener, so I can live with it. Particularly good use of synth/samples guitar-ish sounds, which is VERY tricky to get right without recording them live. Good stuff here.
  19. Nice vibe here and take on a source that's not very represented on a popular game. Good arrangement here by Jaxx, if very short. The production holds this one back quite a bit (sounds like free samples, so I don't blame you), with a pretty mushy, washed out soundfield. Still, for what it is, it's nice.
  20. Nice start here with the filtered synths... that's the stronger part. The beat started out good as well. It felt like it was building the action with the synths, but when it hit :35 the energy level didn't reach where it needed to and it fell a bit flat. Some of the breakdown decisions are a bit weird, like cutting out the beat and energy at :50, 1:01, 1:25 right as it's starting to get started. I felt like I wanted things to really break loose full force for at least a little while, but everytime it got close, things would drop out again. Anyway, enough griping, there's a lot of attention paid to synth modulation and filtering here, which is refreshing. Some good ideas throughout as well, which I think are just hampered with some of the arrangement direction decisions.
  21. Heh, nice start out here with the reggae feel. Listening, and knowing what the source was, I was worried how the chocobo theme was gonna work in this context. So when the flute lead came in, I think it was a mixed result. The sample doesn't sound bad, but the back-and-forth panning kind've gets annoying on headphones after a while. He obviously had to modify the melody quite a bit to get it to work. Rydia's theme works better out of the two in general. With a stronger lead that fits the context of the song better, I think this could've been quite a bit better, but it's not a bad song either in its own right.
  22. Initially I thought this was a mix from Chrono Trigger's Millenial Fair, so I had to double check the song title. Love the Irish Whistle lead to start things off. Nice, laid back feel to the entire song; very relaxing. Leads later trade off to bagpipes, piano and violin - of which I think the violin is most effective. Not much else to say, it's a solid song, if by the numbers, and is a nice, relaxing listen.
  23. Pretty relaxed beginning for housethegrate. At times, I'm reminded a bit of Boards of Canada with that synth lead. Nice blend of all the elements here: airy arps, chilled guitar, analogue synth & laid back drums. Did I just hear electric guitar at 1:00? Ok, now it's starting to pick up, which is something you'd expect, considering other House mixes. Cool and unexpected piano break at 2:55, with guitars and drums building back up effectively. Overall very good stuff from House, even if it doesn't thrash quite as much as his old stuff.
