  1. Well, I'm mixed here. The backing track is pretty solid and has some good movement. Vocals, though, I just can't get into. Sorry DJP :/. Big props for putting yourself out there and trying something like this, though.
  2. Well, this is obviously Mazedude stuff here . Quirky synths, distortion, some dissonance and lots of pitch wheel. Can't say I dig this type of music much personally, but I think there are those who do. Listening to some of his other stuff (some of which I REALLY like), I can't help feeling that this isn't quite up to their level, personal preference aside.
  3. Was bLiNd ever NOT good at music? This piece is pretty old, but it's still super catchy and fun to listen to. Jordan effortlessly weaves original melodies and material into his staple Trance genre - but without it ever feeling forced or awkward. No small feat. Great change-ups in the drums and sections to give the mix plenty of variety. He has improved a ton since this mix, but that doesn't detract from how good even his old stuff is.
  4. Ouch, that synth at the very start is pretty piercing, it's over super fast though. Niiiiice beatwork and effects to start things off. Sounds like typical heavily distorted Beatdrop soundscape here. The melodic section at :58 actually felt a bit weaker than the surrounding passages (and also a bit like an FF7, passage interestingly enough). There's a lot of detail in all of the effects and parts here. Very cool new section at 1:30 - nicely contrasting everything around it. Great track here, worth hearing... several times.
  5. I know it's kind've the point of the song, but I'm not sure I dig the whispered voices to start things off. Cello felt a bit hot compared to the levels of the elements - that is until the beat kicks in. THAT'S the point where this track really picks up well (you had me worried there DJP). Nice crunchy bass and beat do a lot to bring up the level of this track. The cello isn't as bad of an offender at this point, but still feels loud in the mids - maybe some eq love would've helped here. Some cool synths here to compliment our newly founded energy as well. I would've liked to hear that lead at 1:25 more prominently as it's pretty cool sounding. Maybe I have sensitive ears, but there are some super high freqs at 2:09 which are bugging me as I listen to it. I'm not entirely sure what the culprit is, but it drops out at 2:30. The section following feels slightly aimless, but it works as a contrast to other sections. Things circle back to the melody around the 3 minute mark nicely. In general, everything's clicking nicely throughout the track with only a few very minor issues. Probably one of DJP's stronger tracks, IMO. Good job.
  6. Cool intro here with the sitars (?) to start things off. A lot of the interesting parts from the beginning, however, are completely lost at :20, which makes it feel a bit empty. Lead guitar feels buried at the outset and at the 1:00 mark is out of tune to the point where some of the notes sound wrong :/. Really abrupt ending to the track as well. Some of the elements are clicking here, I think - the dark, droning feel of the distorted backing guitars does set some of the mood, but big issues with the lead kill this one for me.
  7. Not sure how I'm feeling about this one. I see what Quinn is going for with almost a mazedude-like quirkiness to it. I think this suffers in the production realm, however, with a lot of residual noise and big balance issues. When things pick up it's a bit fatiguing on the ears. I can appreciate a good attempt at something this ambitious, I just thing the execution needs some work to make me want to keep this one on my playlist.
  8. I always enjoy listening to DJ Redlight's stuff - that lead synth especially is instantly recognizable as his. Good melding of all the parts here for some kickin downtempo electronica. He especially seems to be adept as making lead synths modulate to make them infinitely more interesting to listen to. Very effective use of elements like icy pads during breakdowns to shift gears. Great stuff, as usual, from DJR.
  9. Having SGX do a beatmania track almost seems unfair. It's already laid out to lend to his heavy electronic style well and he takes full advantage of that here. String stabs are contrasted with the distorted industrial beats and synths very effectively here. SGX again shows how well he pulls off various glitching and effects seemingly effortlessly, however, he also shows that he can pull a bit of classical strings effectively as well. I was really waiting for things to kick in and wasn't disappointed when 2:39 finally rolls around. Not much to criticize here at all, this is a great song to listen to and very well executed.
  10. Nice cinematic feel to the opening of this one. DarkMessenger does an especially effective job of building up the anticipation from the intro. I would've liked to hear more complexity out of the strings/orchestra as the main melody is taken on high strings with block chords beneath. More dynamics would've really helped bring more enjoyment out of the track as well. Cool transition to a more conventional beat around 2:20 - again, more variation and complexity of the strings would go a long way here. Drums and bass sound nice in general, but pretty much stay on autopilot for quite a long time. You've got the feel down here with the brooding orchestra and underlying percussive elements, just try to get things varied up and with more dynamics to paint a more effective picture. Despite that, though, the song is good stuff.
  11. Nice soundscape here to start things out. It seems like A Ron was going for a specific sound and was able to achieve it. Hearing some distortion/clipping from that beat, so be careful to keep the levels in check. Some of the changeups and transitions sounded a bit clumsy or unfinished. The beat fading in and out at places like 1:37 & 1:53 or the transition at 1:15 specifically. Overall, though, it's a nice listen with a happy feel to it.
  12. Kind've typical treatment of a megaman track with the 4 on the floor and synths - but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing. Aureolius changes things up nicely with the added Breaks at 1:03 and switchup of the melody. Generally, things come out clearly production-wise and there's enough different elements in the synths and backing pieces to keep things interesting. Good stuff here, worth checking out.
  13. Soundscape is the name of the game here and I think Scott does a good job establishing that. The individual samples might not stand out a whole lot taken individually, but as a whole, this track feels like it would be at home within the C&C soundtrack. I'd say samples and some production issues are the main thing holding this back from being a breakout, but it's definitely listenable in its own right.
  14. BGC definitely hits the mood right, starting off with some icy pads and wind chimes. This theme has been done so many times that it's especially challenging to come up with something fresh and creative. I think BGC has accomplished that here, though. The eastern inspired instruments play things out well, but then are meshed with an aggressive beat, which kicks the energy up several notches. I'm liking how things progress from natural to synthetic as synth elements (bass, gated, then later lead) join the fray. Nice touch with the interlude at 2:02 as well (there's a gap in sound there, which is a bit confusing but not a big deal). Love the abrupt breakin at 2:21 that edgy synth lead. This is definitely on the more liberal side for a while in the middle, it seems, but still retains the original's underpinnings. I'm mixed on wheather the final section and fadeout did the track justice, but again, no real issue there. Great job by Circles bringing something new to an oft-remixed track.
  15. Well I did a cover of the Metroid Prime Chozo Temple track for MREO You can grab it here: http://www.mreomusic.com/wp-content/music/MetroidPrime/Chozo%20Artifact%20Temple.mp3
  16. Thanks . Lyrics below: (Choir) Ahhh! Zeromus! Ahhh! Zeromus! (Female Lead) Take this moment, Into reflection, And remember your path We believe in you, Supporting your trials, Please hear our distant prayers for you Together, we’ll fight for our world, And protect it from this fiend (Choir background) Fire from within (Zeromus) Let me show you how to suffer, My hate is supreme, And you will not stop me! No! (Choir background) Essence born of hate (Female Lead) Never we will lay down to Your sick and twisted lunacy (Choir background) Cleansing bloodstained wings (Zeromus) Life will cease when all is destroyed, I will bring the end, So come and meet your fate! (Choir background) Deep beyond Hell’s gates (F. Lead) We must bring this dawn (Zeromus) Dark will overcome (F. Lead) A new hope must become (Zeromus) There is no hope now (F. Lead) United we are strong (Zeromus) I will break those bonds (F. Lead) Our prayers will overcome (F. Lead)/(Zeromus) And with the havoc that you/I have wrought, That’s brought the dark that tested our/your hearts, We won’t let you bring eternal night (Zeromus) Try and stop me now (F. Lead) Zeromus we won’t go without a fight! (Zeromus) Your journey ends here! (Choir) Growing stillness, In the heavens, Darkness deeper, Than the night, Forcing all to, Flee or perish, No one leaves, This place alive, Come within now, Desolation, Mirror surface, Bathed in black, Endless silence, Through the terror, Perfect hope, Begins to crack Ahhh! Zeromus! Ahhh! Zeromus! (F. Lead) Together, we’ll fight for our world, And protect it from this fiend (Choir background) Fire from within (Zeromus) Let me show you how to suffer, My hate is supreme, And you will not stop me! No! (Choir background) Essence born of hate (F. Lead) Never we will lay down to, Your sick and twisted lunacy (Choir) Cleansing bloodstained wings (Zeromus) Life will cease when all is destroyed, I will bring the end, So come and meet your fate! (Choir) Deep beyond Hell’s gates (F. Lead) We must bring this dawn (Zeromus) Dark will overcome (F. Lead) A new hope must become (Zeromus) There is no hope now (F. Lead)/(Zeromus) And with the havoc that you/I have wrought, That’s brought the dark that tested our/your hearts, We won’t let you bring eternal night, (Zeromus) I must stop this light! (F. Lead) Zeromus we won’t go without a fight! (Zeromus) No! Get Back! No!
  17. Ahh, I love this song. It pops up on my mp3 player every once in a while and I always stop and listen in. Darkesax is very effectively used here as the lead and duet parts. This really does feel like it should be a remix from a spacegame (I haven't played it, so I'm making assumptions). Great key change at 1:55 as well. The guitar sample underneath is probably the weakest point, production wise, but it's pretty low in the soundfield and not a major player, so no big deal. Good stuff as usual from Darke.
  18. I really love Suzumebachi's stuff - this is no exception. It's deceptively simple to start out, but things transition awesomely at :33. Love the wah guitar support giving some extra detail to the section. Not much more to say here, the overall feel and flow is great and transitions well into the various sections and textures. The only gripe I have is the somewhat sudden feedback-ish ending. I really would've liked to hear something that flows out of the song and gives it the finish it deserves. Besides that minor point, though, great work here.
  19. Snapple definitely pulls off the DKC feel with the initial toms to start things off. Pretty straight-forward quality metal - not my favorite genre (as I've posted before), but I can appreciate it. This is quality production and playing, though I think you can also tell that he's improved quite a bit since this remix. Specifically, I would've liked the leads to have a bit more power and edge behind them. Anyway, overall good stuff.
  20. Amusing intro from Analoq here, you really can hear how sick he sounds. Production is very clean and I love the generally chilled vibe. Good use of multiple EPs/Rhodes specifically, which work very cohesively with the drums and bass. Nice changeup at 2:35 with something unexpected. The synth string stabs in particular really appeal to me for some reason. This song's been on my OCR playlist for quite some time and won't be leaving any time soon.
  21. Nice use of what probably aren't the highest quality samples. One exception, though, was the Choir lead at 2:37, which felt a bit awkward and unrealistic. It's nice to be able to recognize each theme here right off with so many present. I think it's pretty clear this wouldn't pass muster today, though, being a medley that doesn't really develop each theme much - but that doesn't make it a bad listen either. Overall, if you're looking for an orchestral Tour de Final Fantasy, this is a good bet.
  22. Not much of an intro, but I'm digging this lead that starts things off... well, until it came back more exposed at 1:05 - it just didn't gel as well there. Good changeup immediately following with the lead guitar section, even if it started to get repetative playing the exact phrase a second time. Vary things up! Drums don't have to be on autopilot all the time . Lead could've stood to have some embellishments and changeups to keep it interesting. Still, it's a pretty solid song and fun listen.
  23. The intro had me worried about the quality of this track, but things kick in pretty well with guitars and drums. Unfortunately, there wasn't really anything that grabbed me here. I was waiting for a good hook in a lead guitar or something, but it never came. It feels solidly produced, but needs something more to make me want to listen again.
  24. Pretty cool beginning with the sequenced synth. I'm a bit torn on the voices at the beginning, probably because they're so exposed. Once things kick in at :48 with the beat and bass, though, it suddently all seems to come together. Nice smooth bass underneath an early 90's (?) beat. Nice production throughout... the word smooth comes to mind again - I'm just really digging the general vibe. I thought the delayed flute-ish lead during the breakdown was a nice contrast before everything came back in. Definitely a keeper.
