How about a stronger body? A friend of mine had a Macbook Pro from maybe three years ago, and the top of it had come completely loose. He literally had to use velcro to prevent top casing from flipping upwards and exposing all the circuits. No longer an issue. And yes, lack of FW400 is a pain in the ass.

The whole point behind doing so is that it makes the laptop a hell of a lot more solid. No paste or screws required to hold the thing together. It can channel heat out a lot more effectively, and it's been built so that almost all of it is recyclable at the end.

Okay, so I was seriously considering getting a Macbook Pro back in May. But I heard that they were going to be releasing a serious update in June. So I waited. June became July became September. I still waited. Then, it was finally nailed down on October 14th. And boy, was the wait worth it! Unfortunately, I left New York the day of the announcement, so I had to order it from the Apple store, and it came today. It's my first Mac, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but overall I'm satisfied. I wish it were a 17", had Blu-Ray and Firewire 400, the trackpad were easier to click, and you could get a consistent reading on how much battery life I had left, but these minor annoyances are more nitpicky than not, and I'm pretty sure I won't be headed back to Windows anytime soon.

Microphones for Musical Theater
The Pezman replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
This is the philosophy the tech director has always used, and it may turn out that it's the best one to use in situations like these. He explained more about the headset mics: the mics are not there to dominate the voice projection. Like I said, the singers are powerful and the venue is small. So there will be minimal gain, and the show won't sound like it's miced. Unless it were a big over-the-top show like Rent, it doesn't make sense for it to sound miced. -
Microphones for Musical Theater

Not stand mics. Did you take a look at the mic specs? They actually catch sound in a curve behind them. They're meant for this sort of thing. Maybe I didn't make this clear. The guy is the person who asked me to do this in the first place. He's got a lot of experience, but he knows few technical details. He does what he calls "seat of the pants" engineering, just trying things and seeing what works. He'd like to know if there's a more efficient way to do it. I'll bring up the idea for the future (the show goes up in a week), but I imagine he'll have a similar response to me. Doesn't hurt to ask though. It's funny you mention the chorus so often, because our show is one of the few musicals which really doesn't have one: A Little Night Music. The largest song has about fourteen people all told. The mics are definitely for live sound, to amplify the singers. -
Microphones for Musical Theater
The Pezman replied to The Pezman's topic in Music Composition & Production
Well the theater is small. In fact, I'm sitting in the back row now and I'm maybe 30-40 feet away. Any headset mics, flesh colored or otherwise, will be noticed. However, it's still large enough that even our powerful singers (and I know them well... they're good) won't fill the room over music. The guy I'm working with explained that he has set up microphones along the stage (not hanging) many times before, and he's been working in technical theater since the 70s so it's probably not wise to simply tell him it's not effective. But, given the mike specifications, is there an ideal place for the singers to be relative to them? -
Dammit, why didn't I post in this a day earlier? Okay, I'll PM everyone who indicated interest in something. Sorry if I missed you before, Darklink.

That's true, Jon, and thank you for that plug. I have a good number of games and other related things I'm willing to sell. And possibly more. It's just split between school and home, and I need enough time at either place to rifle through it all and organize it. I'm not putting prices here because they ARE NEGOTIABLE. Anyone who's worked with me will tell you I'm reasonable and just don't want anyone (me or the buyer) to get ripped off. 2006 FIFA World Cup Alter Echo Ape Escape 2 Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (Number 5) Conflict: Desert Storm Dance Dance Revolution Max 1, 2 & Extreme Dark Angel: Vampire Apocalypse Dark Cloud Dark Cloud 2 Devil May Cry Disgaea - Hour of Darkness Drakengard Dual Hearts Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy X-2 (with guide) Frequency God of War Grand Theft Auto III Grandia XTreme Growlanser Generations .hack Part 1 Haven: Call of the King Herdy Gerdy I-Ninja (STILL WRAPPED) Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy Katamari Damacy Kingdom Hearts (with guide) Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil Kya: Dark Lineage La Pucelle Tactics Legaia 2 Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Megaman X8 Okage: Shadow King Phantom Brave Ratchet & Clank Going Commando Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal Ratchet Deadlocked Rygar Silent Scope 3 Shadow Hearts Shadow Hearts: Covenant (STILL WRAPPED) Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (with soundtrack) Star Ocean 3 Suikoden III Syphon Filter: Omega Strain Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Tsuganai: Atonement Viewtiful Joe Xenosaga Episode I PS1: Arc the Lad Collection (including stand-up figurines) Final Fantasy VII Legend of Legaia Lemmings & Oh No! I need to find a way to list everything in an informative manner, like I did on my site, without so much work on my end for each individual item.

So I know this isn't quite remixing in the traditional sense, but it is an audio-related question for something I'm working on and was thinking someone might know something about it here. I'm the assistant sound designer for the musical this semester. Unfortunately, that does not mean much in the way of actual sound design, and more along the lines of a single task: to try and apply knowledge of sound dynamics in order to determine a theoretically ideal placement for mics in order to best catch the sound of onstage singers. Just so everyone knows, singers in musicals can't hold mics, and won't have any clipped to their clothing either. So the question becomes where to place the mics on the stage. We have these two kinds of mics: Crown PCC-150 Audio-Technica AT3528 In the past, he's explained, he's always just guestimated (god I hate that word) where they should be, but if there is anything we can use beyond simple trial-and-error, we'd love to know.

C#, huh? Have you considered XNA Studio? I worked with that over the summer when I made an educational biology game in my REU and I liked it a lot. My idea was to actually have bosses that were OCR judges/moderators. It would give us/you the chance to poke a little fun at them.

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
The Pezman replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Man, am I the only one who doesn't like the darker tones? Personally, I think it looks hideous in comparison to before, but I appear to be severely outnumbered. -
Sephire's Above the Rising Falls is the shit.

Bingo. Every word does have a meaning, but at this point the computer doesn't know what they are. The whole idea behind semantic web is to fix that, and use context in order to disambiguate multiple meanings. When a query is presented to a semantic search engine, it still employs some text matching, but there's a greater emphasis on looking for synonyms, morphologies (different forms of the given word), and other related attributes in order to bring you the most accurate results immediately. Cognition Wikipedia is one example (and it beats out its Freebase-based counterpart), and Parallax is another.

Alright, this one goes out to you high-end technophiles and Computer Scientists. I'm doing my senior project on this emerging web technology. I didn't hear about it til the director of Academic Technology suggested it to me, and now I've gotten fairly excited. It tags words with actual meaning, so you can search by more than simple keyword and actually find things related to what you were searching for simply through the semantic meaning. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do with it, but I'll be using the APIs for Freebase and OpenCalais. If DJP is reading this, I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to semantically tag the remixes at some point, though admittedly the technology is still a little young. At some point, though.

Screw you all, Kingdom Hearts is god. I get the feeling they're taking a page out of JK Rowling's book, as every game in the series gets considerably more mature. Not too long til the blood...

This is the sort of thing you're taught in Creative Writing: characterization. What's so great about Vegeta is how he continues to be single-minded, arrogant and believe he's the strongest despite all the evidence to the contrary. It's ridiculous, we know, but it makes for such a strong character and outlook that you can't help but like him.

Let's also remember that the age of mainstream gamers keeps going down. Two years ago we were playing with GBA, sure, and we may still love the games. But the majority of gamers are not collectors who play as many great games as they can, and are willing to trade up every time a new generation system makes the scene. Supporting the larger cartridge is not only a space issue but a BIOS and software issue as well, and getting rid of it allows more resources to be put towards bettering other features.

Vegeta has fanboys/girls out the wazoo. Makes little sense to me that they wouldn't capitalize on that. Better villain/anti-hero than Piccolo ever was.

Im not sure if it's the undergraduate or graduate version they had up there, but the sample exam for the Programming Languages class makes me feel a lot better about the one I have in nine hours.

I've expressed interest in projects before, but have been unable to follow through because my PC laptop is a craptop. However, I've been waiting since May for the redesigned Macbook Pros, and now that they're coming I'm switching over. That should make mixing far easier. As I have never mixed before I can't guarantee I'll be solid, but I would love to use the opportunity to bounce ideas and learn how to get better. Essentially like a more real-time judges panel.

Okay, can we aggregate these different game announcements together? I didn't even know there was a conference til I saw the thread, and now there have been twenty sites linked to with as many things reported. As a recent Wii purchaser and DS holdout this will affect things for me. I'm still trying to figure out where NiGHTS and MP1 and 2 came from. And also... Does this mean the Wiimakes of MP1 and 2 that were mentioned somewhere? How many games are they doing this for?

I doubt this movie will make over $9000. Although it probably will.
