I wasn't sure if I agreed with you at the time, but looking at that picture it's hard to argue. Even if I had my eyes closed. But at a distance... It was great to be able to meet so many more people. I got introduced to the VGM community as it exists beyond OCR (gasp!). I ended up going out with you guys frequently so I missed a lot of panels. Personally, I think we should try to order in more often next year so we don't spend 2+ hours trying to eat a damn meal. MAGFest RAWK!

Whenever I'm watching someone play a game and they lose a life, I now know exactly what to say to them every time.

So I want to extract this sound from a video on Youtube. Well, first I have to download it onto my machine. MediaPirate extension for Firefox, no prob. But what then? How do I separate the sound file from the image? Will it be a .wav or mp3, and if not how do I convert it to one?

So basically any music at all?

I was quite pleased when JamSpace revealed to me that we have a good number of musicians who actually enjoy playing with other people, not just recording or sequencing their own stuff. However, I lamented the fact that we wouldn't be able to practice before next MAG, and then I dimly remembered running into something which claimed to remedy this before. I returned to its site to refresh myself. It looks too good to be true, and perhaps it is. At this point I really couldn't tell you. But the fact that they're still around seems to indicate that they've had at least some success in their stated goal: for musicians to collaborate and record live through the Internet with little or no latency. It's still in beta, so you can currently download it for free. I did so, but because I'm on wireless I don't have a fast enough connection to try it out. So I want to throw it out there to those of you with more pimp setups than myself who would actually have a chance of this thing working. If it functions even half as well as they claim I think we really might have something here that could change the nature of musicianship, to say nothing of OCR.

Way to remix your old remixes, Tweek. EDIT: Realized that sounded snarky. I actually thought it was interesting what you did... the parts you kept never had any actual bearing on the Team Rocket melody so it seemed okay to use them as background for a similar style of track. Was it because you were in a time crunch for your mix or because you thought the stuff you did before was applicable here?

When did these happen? I think I'm perhaps the only person missing from the top shot. Oh, and Dave, but he was barely there. Also: WHAT'S YOUR MOTHER... FUCKING... NAME?!

Here's a different question. How well do you need to know music (not MIDI and soundfonts) to make something decent? Do you have to know chord progressions, voicing, etc?

To answer the original question, I try not to. It's make it harder for me to appreiciate the mix if I'm not familiar with the source tune. Of course, the problem is that I am severely behind on many games, so I will oftentimes do it anyway. But then the mix is not nearly as significant to me as it could be.

Bump, as I discovered something yesterday which, based on what I tried in Guitar Center, looks and feels amazing. It's compact, it syncs right to your machine, and it's got everything you'd want from a turntable set.
