  1. Thanks! The words are in Finnish. I had to use a crappy headset for the vocals, I have a proper microphone but I couldn't locate it, plus I think I don't have anything that would function as a preamp. Oh woe!

  2. For a second I imagined stoof to be an onomatopoetic subgenre of acoustic metal. --Eino
  3. I have the backing down, rather skeletal but it'll do. Probably messed up the harmony and am not noticing it. I sure hope I have the chance to record the vocals before the deadline.. (: --Eino
  4. Wrote some chords for Serrah's theme to make it go with Lulu's.. Fun stuff I wouldn't have done without is competition. Still haven't got a note tracked or recorded though! --Eino
  5. I'm always baffled with the notion tha OCR wouldn't or shouldn't post some stranger genres. It's like people don't pay attention to the left field stuff that gets posted. Of course the more accessible stuff is more prominent, there's more people making and listening to that kind of stuff (and it's not like OCR has profiled itself as AvantGarde ReMix). However, to me it's always been clear that OCR welcomes all sorts of music, just by listening what's there and especially reading djp's writeups. It's a bit like with obscure games and platforms. Just like with them, it's a huge appeal of OCR to me that sometimes unusual styles of music pop up. I can sympathise with getting less support or attention when you stray off the beaten path. But me, to use Gridlock as an example, I enjoy Messuggah occasionally and appreciate that track a lot. Just haven't gotten around to properly review it. --Eino
  6. Yup, FFCC first this weekend. But since this is an Amiga track, it's in MOD format, and it'd be interesting to work from that. So, maybe.. --Eino
  7. I have half the lyrics written. Not sure if I have the recording gear. So I'm not sure what I'll eventually turn in. Too little time this week (family sick).. --Eino
  8. Gonna try to grab a physical for (Megaman) Xmas. --Eino
  9. Spooky and groovy. Also, too good for me to give constructive feedback about. --Eino
  10. I don't think there was a bad idea yet, but I would be very interested in watching the Source Breakdown Show. *adjusts glasses* --Eino
  11. Oh boy, do want! Loved the previews of the previous EP. Would I need to add $$$ for international shipping? --Eino
  12. I was going to suggest you contact him. Seriously. That's just awesome. I didn't give the new version a listen yet, but I liked what I was hearing on the first version, and I'll try to give a closer listen soon. --Eino
  13. I think I figured how I'll fit the A parts of Serrah's and Lulu's themes together. Still the rest of it to figure out, and I still don't know what style or instrumentation I'll try. But, some progress! Lots of fun already. --Eino
  14. I'll use anything, but I don't like to leave it as-is. Slice it up, put it through effects, layer it with other drums, use it to construct a beat in a different time signature.. edit: I also find making beats very enjoyable, so if I put a loop in place and call it a day I feel I'm missing a lot of the fun. (: --Eino
  15. Hyped. Serah's theme isn't too bad to combine with Lulu's, the mood sort of overlaps and especially tempo/rhythm is similar. Serah's mood seems more straightforward, but not without bittersweetness.. they can make a nice juxtaposition, and with the rhythm you can really go anywhere. I tinkled both a bit over the top of the youtube videos on the piano, though I didn't get as far as transposing them to same key. Mighty tempted to make a vocal piece but it's hard to find the time to record. (On the plus side, you could work on the lyrics anywhere ) All right, let's! (: --Eino
  16. Awesome source choices, I love the high energy here! I'll try to come back with more in depth comments soon. --Eino
  17. Oh boy I can't wait to hear Mak's arrangement of The Last Soul! --Eino
  18. I thought this was a really great Talkback, lots of fun stuff and also great tips etc for ReMixing. Abadoss is my new role model for not giving up on ReMixes. Looking forward for that Radical Dreamers revision, I already like it tons. I should've kept a list of all the topics & points mentioned that I thougt were good, there were many. --Eino
  19. Yeah, I had to touch up our track a little since the rest of it was sounding so good. --Eino
  20. What are the games/pieces that made you really pay attention to video game music the first time? My chronological list would go (I'll mention five): 1. Street Fighter 2 This game was so huge for a good while. These two brothers I was friends with had a SNES, and lots of time was spent in great company playing the hell out of SF2 for SNES. I sucked but lamely claimed after losing that I had the most fun. The music obviously rocks, and I remember we listened to the sound test quite a bit, which I think made me pay specific attention to the music. 2. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest The first JRPG I saw (I think? This or Phantasy Star 3.) and I was really into it. The music for Bone Dungeon and especially the Winry Cave/Ice Pyramid sounded pretty mysterious to me, which for some reason was the atmosphere that impressed me the most. The Doom Castle & final boss music were quite cool too. 3. Final Fantasy IV FFIV was of course quite a step in complexity from FFMQ, even though it was the initial "FF2" US SNES release. I still remember digging the music with mysterious feeling the most, the music on the Moon really enhanced the feel of the final stages of the game. The SNES of those two friends certainly was a big influence for me as far as VGM goes. 4. Star Control 2 We had a PC without a sound card at home, and it was a huge surprise to hear the MOD music play through just the speaker. You were so used to hearing just the rather abrasive monophonic beeping from it.. impressive programming! The music was quite impressive in itself as well, from the powerful ominous intro, to the ambient washes of solar system exploration, the energetic hyperspace music, and of course the tunes for the alien encounters which contributed hugely to their character. 5. Pinball Fantasies This one (originally an Amiga title) also played MOD music right through the PC speaker. The boombastic intro tune made a huge impression and I was mighty pleased to have another game playing great music without a sound card. Digital Illusions came from the demoscene which shows in the excellent soundtrack. There was some good stuff that in retrospect I enjoyed & which added immensely to my enjoyment of the games themselves, but I wasn't very conscious about it at the time. I'd mention Castle of Illusion and Wonder Boy III: Dragon's Trap for Sega Master System, Mega Man games for NES, and also Grand Prix Circuit for PC - great melodies/riffs even on the speaker of the 286 that my dad brought from work to home for summer. But the above stuff really made me go "hey, the music's really good" and listen to it specifically. Discuss! --Eino
  21. I previewed a few tracks and they sounded good . The excellent Preschtale is probably more my kind of a thing but I'll be grabbing this when I can. --Eino
  22. Happy birthday Bundeslang, and many thanks for running PRC for so long. Without it, I'd make perhaps a quarter of the music I'm making, and it wouldn't be half as good. --Eino
  23. Yeah, I configure AdBlock to AdAllow on sites that have ads & I want to support, OCR included. It takes three clicks per site, not a big bother! andyeahthoseadsareterrible. Nice research Annie Felis --Eino
  24. Thanks for the reply Larry! There's a broken link in this mix's writeup: the "second time covering the main theme.." link is lacking the forward slash in the url. --Eino
