  1. Hmmmh, I thought gifting the Steam codes from them Bundles was frowned upon by the companies, I thought I checked that last time I was thinking giving the keys away, but it looks like the Humble Bundle FAQ says this is possible and perhaps even means it's ok. I don't really use Steam, so I guess I have a bunch of keys to give away.. I don't mind if you post here to tell you've grabbed one, to save other people's time & letting me know too. It's also not a bad idea to limit yourself to one pick so others can partake too. --Eino
  2. That's a sweet track. I hope OneUp picks a track soon too, since he picks some sweet sources as well. --Eino
  3. Wow! The arrangement is a naturally flowing, calm/thoughtful instrumental jam. Good instrumentation & sweet guest solo spots. I really liked the sound of the live drums, the playing is kind of loose but I think it works really well here. The only thing I don't like is the way the bass drum punches through the mix, it seems very detracting and takes attention away from the rest of it (I like the otherwise "recorded in a garage" sound of the drums), and also feels physically uncomfortable to me. Rest of it was absolutely great! --Eino
  4. Ah. Since the FFCC finals probably go from Jan 26th to Feb 2nd, I'd like to be in the Robotnik bracket if that's all right! --Eino
  5. Here are my five picks: 1. Bridge Zone (Sonic 1 MS/GG) 2. Sky Base Zone (Sonic 1 MS/GG) 3. Jungle Zone (Sonic 1 MS/GG) 4. Labyrinth Zone (Sonic 1 MS/GG) 5. Scrap Brain Zone (Sonic 1 MS/GG) I am well focused. Labyrinth Zone is completely different in MS/GG version compared to the MD/Genesis version.. SBZ is somewhat different, though at least pretty much the same tune. Green Hill Zone is the same as in the original version, as good as the tune is I didn't feel like picking it because of that. --Eino
  6. Wow - that close? Thanks for the comments, I'll keep this piece in mind for the future.. I say that often about my PRC tracks, but I really mean it every time. It just takes me years to finish them. My PRC174 track did just get posted so it does happen eventually! --Eino
  7. I've enjoyed the past four shows. Sonic CD show was massive and lots of fun, JiveBird and Rexy were just great, it was great to hear Matt's insights into project direction since he did a stellar job, and BrothaDom really impressed me, seemed like a humble guy, but proud of what he's doing. Always good to see the pretzel there of course! The two shows with the new staff gave a good bunch of insights into judging and stuff. I was interested in hearing about how much time it takes to give feedback - for me it takes a lot of dedicated time, since I often hear a lot of things but I feel I'm not that great in formulating it to words (English not being my first language might contribute) or analyzing it, especially music theory -wise. It sounded like some of you can sometimes churn out feedback at a ridiculous rate.. It was very good to "meet" the new faces! Chimpz and XPRTNovice have both seemed like absolutely great folks on the forums and it was cool to see and hear them in the Talkbacks! #14 had some great euro representation, WillRock was a lot of fun and I always like seeing non-staff ReMixers, and it was cool to see Hakštok. I just loved the "Uematsu... meh" perspective too! As much as I love Final Fantasy music myself. --Eino
  8. I'd probably pick from the first Master System Sonic, because that's what I've played the most. If I participate.. really should concentrate on finishing my studies. But I had the same concern with FFCC, and I've ended up in the finals.. argh.. the best music comes out when you definitely should be doing something else. --Eino
  9. Hi Hollow! We got paired in RwtS so.. hi! I took a listen to the tracks you posted on the thread (and of course I was already familiar with the FFCC track). Creative stuff and you also got a pretty good sound together. The sounds seem basic and the mix is a little sparse, but what is there really works together and I think that is a very very good thing. So.. what software do you use? Do you have a source track in mind you want to tackle (the theme was just posted on the thread)?

    --Eino

  10. Yay! Yeah, Chernabogue did great throughout the whole compo and like I said, in a jazzy style I didn't expect! I thought the themes were really well integrated each round. I'm really surprised the voting for that round was as one-sided as it was. ..and I'm like WHAT?! made it to the FINALS!? What is this even. And up against Tuberz, that's pretty damn cool too. I'd like the deadline to be some time after the 13th, since I am swamped with studies up to and including that day. Apart from that, whether it's a week or a month I'm cool with anything. --Eino
  11. I've caught a couple of SMD shows and enjoyed them. The album parties were especially good! I'll have to put the time down on my calendar.. --Eino
  12. I played a lot of Locomalito games. He makes "free, traditional games" - traditional meaning they have a lot of 80s/90s arcade flair about them, and are good for short but repeated playtimes. Good challenge, too. Not to mention excellent, excellent music, almost always by Gryzor87. I especially played Maldita Castilla, Endless Forms Most Beautiful (a PC remake of a ZX Spectrum game - from 2012!), They Came From Verminest and Gaurodan. All well worth checking out, watch the videos! I also played a few emulated Game Gear games on the NGage: Wonder Boy 3, Donald Duck in Lucky Dime Capers and Legend of Illusion. These were fun to play a bit each day with the daughter. WB3 is a long-time favourite of mine. Couldn't get Castle of Illusion to work, sadly. I played a ridiculous amount of OpenXCOM, which is a great reimplementation of the best game in the world - UFO: Enemy Unknown (or XCOM: UFO Defence in the States). I even contributed a few fixes to build problems on Linux. I got a Commodore C64 for birthday, and played some stuff on it, again with the daughter. I also played a bunch of RGCD/Psytronik releases on the C64 emulator: Soulless and Assembloids most come to mind (again, both good fun with the daughter). One of these days I'm going to order a bunch of cartridges from RGCD to play on the real machine. Also played a good bunch of FTL. And I probably forget some games. Having a Backloggery account was pretty good for making this post. --Eino
  13. Definitely get this guy on your track. Great vocals. --Eino
  14. Thanks for the comments on Clockwork Groove (on Youtube too!) and kudos for doing so many reviews in general!

    --Eino

  15. Thanks for the comment on Clockwork Groove! I'm glad you liked the old school style. There'll be more of that! :)

  16. Ahh, that makes sense! I didn't even think of FamiTracker/GoatTracker (Commodore 64) and the like. I'm only used to trackers that are primarily sample based (starting from Amiga). Well, what "trackers" in the end have in common is the UI, or really just the way notation is displayed/entered. That thought would be correct. (: But the sound really is just the samples loaded. Well, maybe also how the lead is sequenced especially in the first half, I tried to go for a very classic tracker-like sequencing in there. --Eino
  17. That's a cool reference, I think I can hear the Chinese feel there now that you mention it, but it never occurred to me before. But for the "tracker sounds" comment, you may be thinking of my Deus Ex UNATCO track where I wanted to make a polished track on old school low fidelity samples (via a Mazedude module). Trackers themselves can load up any sound (and use VSTis and whatnot) so trackers don't equate low fidelity. --Eino
  18. Well, the critique was spot on. But thankfully, a few mixing tweaks can go a long way! I had to raise the leads in the mix so they would actually be on top of the mix. I'm really glad the bar is as high as it is, as this track is much better for it. I'm proud to have been part of the excellent album, and very happy to see my track on the front page (with an embarrassingly long quote from the submission letter essay too)! --Eino
  19. Wow, so many episodes already, that's great! I'll sign up as a Star. I use Renoise tracker, in the unlikely event there's a Novice that uses one as well. I suppose I could mix stems. I'm not much of a production guy though, I'm more about the arrangement and source treatment. I also play guitar and stuff, although unspectacularly. --Eino
  20. Thanks for the review, I appreciate it! Kudos again for so many reviews!
