OCR00869 - Tomb Raider "Adventure Is in the Air"
Eino Keskitalo replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Whoa, this is an excellent piece. Very 90s. Regarding length, I like how concise it is personally. It takes exactly the time it needs to do what it does. This is a keeper. --Eino -
How long have you been coming to OCR?
Eino Keskitalo replied to duskvstweak's topic in General Discussion
I remember I had gotten some sort of an impression that OCR was for elitists who did vgmixes the wrong way. Then after getting some OCR mixes from somewhere, notably LastUnicron's Alisia Dragoon mix (I seem to recall so), I checked the site out for reals and turns out I'm an elitist who likes vgmixes done the wrong way. I registered in May 2007, but Shnabubula's mixes seem to have started me posting around the end of 2007. Most of my initial posts are reviews, and then I've progressed into WIP boards, People's Remix Competition and the projects for the most part. Fun times. --Eino -
So nice to see good progress. We got our WIP started with Pleiade, nothing to show yet, but we'll try to keep a weekly pace of progress, so hopefully Jade will be hearing something soon! --Eino

OCR01418 - Mega Man 2 "The Fifth Season"
Eino Keskitalo replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice and chill, this mix was in VGDJ's Russian Remix Roulette section in ep#069, but I've heard and liked this before as well. The sound feels kind of muffled, but it's a very complete and balanced piece, nice and soothing. --Eino -
OCR01902 - Kirby: Canvas Curse "I Want You Inside Me"
Eino Keskitalo replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is quite fantastic.. airy and delicious. Thanks for making the mix! I'm enjoying it a lot. --Eino ..damn that angry frown.. -
Can't say the same about games, but music, definitely. Horizons have been broadened. --Eino

Absolutely. Keep going! I'm seeing that friend of mine later this week, I'll talk to him if he was interested in doing a WIP for a track. --Eino

I agree with the final sentence 100%, and I'm very happy to see this idea of going with a similar approach. I like most of the projects but Relics of the Chozo and Delta-Q-Delta are the best listening experiences from start to finish as a whole. --Eino

Reset Generation - "Remix Generation"
Eino Keskitalo replied to DrumUltimA's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Very nice, lots of different elements there and they mix pretty well. I don't like how the lyrics surprise me when they come in.. I didn't expect them as there's no "hint" or set up for them. Structure wise, I'm talking about a couple of lines earlier, alternating with instrumental parts/soloing. Just so that the whole thing flows well. I think lyrics alternating with lots of soloing/instrumentation ideas could work really well. The Vagrance's No Hope does the same thing lyrics wise, and it makes both of these tracks seem a bit half-baked, which is quite unfortunate as no individual aspect of the mixes are half-baked at all (including the lyrics!). Don't mean to sound this negative, it's a good track. I especially love comibining so many sounds and styles so well, plus the living, breathing strings. --Eino -

Any updates? Sounds interesting. --Eino -
Castlevania SotN - Lost Painting Prayer
Eino Keskitalo replied to NeonHyena's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I quite like the arrangement. It's.. meditative, like original Prayer but with obviously different instrumentation. --Eino -
I'm not familiar with the game or soundtrack myself, but I could ask a friend (who does trance) if he was interested, as I remember he quite liked the soundtrack. --Eino

Shining Force - Koutekishu [Battle 3 (Mid Boss)]
Eino Keskitalo replied to imperfectepoch's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
First off, I'm very happy to see some Shining Force mixage! I'm more of a fan of the second game, but I do remember this source tune. Interesting mix of synths and acoustic instruments. Production-wise this is certainly in the early stages, but you have good arrangement ideas going. My main crit would be with the structure at this point - there seems to be a lot of repetition, repeating the same parts verbatim as the piece progresses. You may have plans to make them different from each other with production and sounds later on, but I think this might be a good stage to make sure that the piece progresses fluidly and has enough variation on the arrangement level. It feels a bit long right now, don't be afraid to cut sections either. I'm not a huge fan of the classical quotes, at least the one that I can recognize. Well, more precicely, I don't like the quote at 2:01-2:06, but later on the same thing is used more subtly, with variation and I assume it's mixed with the source - that is alright with me. I really like the busy start-stop harpsichord and slow oboe towards the end. Mmm, lovely source. --Eino -
Super Dodge Ball: Around the World - History
Eino Keskitalo replied to Murmeli Walan's topic in Projects
Yeah, that definitely sometimes happens with these internet project thingies.. kudos for the prompt (and pretty spiffy!) replacement! --Eino -
I get that.. on the other hand, while listening the podcast, I strongly felt that this was more of an inside thing, from OCR to OCR, rather than something that advertises OCR to outside. I'm sure it works on both fronts more or less, just that the emphasis seems to be a show for those already in-OCR. I do think playing the songs in full would be more beneficial to actually showcase the awesome to new folks. But primarily, personally I want them so that I can check out the new mixes in a fun way without needing to download them myself (unless I want to keep them of course). That worked really well with the Brushfire-only preview for me! Biweekly sounds good! --Eino

Super Dodge Ball: Around the World - History
Eino Keskitalo replied to Murmeli Walan's topic in Projects
I'm sad to lose Showroom Dummy like that (upcoming ocremixer whose PRC entries I've really enjoyed - hope we'll still be hearing from him a lot!) but I guess that blind guy is ok too. --Eino -
I just listened to the 'cast, it was good yeah! I personally didn't register awkwardness, but sure it'll become smoother with time quite naturally, so looking forward to new episodes! I'd actually have liked to hear full-length remixes, but on the other hand it's nice that the podcast is kept short. --Eino

Ooh, that does sound promising. --Eino

I'm playing the game at the moment as well. It's such a guilty pleasure - the voice acting (as opposed to just text) makes me too embarrassed to play it when my significant other is around. Lost in translation.. I kind of want to believe that, yeah. But maybe it's just crap writing. Oh well, I enjoy it anyway (the battle system *is* really nice). I really was turned off by the first hour or so, I think it turned better from there on (though not great, just enjoyable). I did like FFIX quite a bit myself. Haven't played VII yet, and I should really replay VI, as I didn't make it to the end back then. Regarding OST, having really enjoyed ilp0's "Lake in Ontario?", getting to the point where the source track start playing in the game was a really neat moment. --Eino
