  1. right on, thanks for the info. i'm hoping to pick up massive soon actually, really looking forward to messing around with it. off the top of my head i know i definitely heard a couple samples from the original sonic trilogy on genesis (ring pick-ups, level clears, stuff like that) and i think i heard navi's "hey!" from ocarina of time. not sure on a lot of the other ones, though. really cool usages, though.
  2. great work, dude! i love the aesthetic you've got going on - you did a killer job of developing a unique soundscape and getting new sounds to work within it as the album goes on. really digging the last couple tracks, especially.
  3. i've only had a chance to listen through once, but i'm really digging all of this. great mix of dirty sounds and crisp overall production. the writing is great, too - lots of huge grooves and good melodic content. nice going, dude! what programs are you using?
  4. really digging this. it's a lot of fun to listen to and the production is great. nice work, dude! gonna be chilling out to this for a while.
  5. there's some really cool ideas in here and the arrangement is working nicely. i think it needs a little more direction - adding in some breakbeats would definitely help, but i think you can get it working without resorting to that if you don't feel that's the place to take it. i really dig the glitchy/cut-up stuff going on, and i think if you made more dramatic use of that kind of thing, you could end up with some very cool stuff. vary the rhythms while glitching it out and just go a little crazy with it and see what happens maybe?
  6. hans zimmer's score for the holiday is really nice, too: the movie isn't so hot, but there's some great music there. i think a lot of thomas newman's work also falls into this category. he's one of my favorite film composers, and his work on stuff like american beauty, wall-e, and cinderella man is really emotive without being too sugary sweet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK8YcKX2pOA
  7. this is great stuff! i really like the soundscape you've got going on - the instrumentation and arrangements are really well done and it has a nice, spacious vibe. i've never heard of this game before but i'm thinking about checking it out now after hearing the soundtrack.
  8. thanks a ton, dude! i'm really glad you're digging the music, i'm looking forward to working on more stuff like this while trying out new sounds and all that. and thanks for checking out songs for the cure, it's an awesome compilation. thanks! i dunno if this is still on your radar at all but feel free to hit me up, whether it's here, in a PM, on twitter, through e-mail, whatever. i'd love to hear your thoughts! i appreciate you taking the time to listen. thanks again, everyone!
  9. this is really nice, i like this a lot. the arrangement is strong and it's got a great vibe. my only issue with it is that it seems like it loses some momentum around the middle and then picks it up again with the key change. by around 2:30 it just feels like the constant beat has been going on for a little too long and needs a bigger break than what's there now, but that's just my ears (maybe i just listen to too much electronica with buildup/breakdown style songwriting, haha). really nice work, overall!
  10. i've never used the monotron or ds-10 (although i've been meaning to try it out for a while now), but you got some really great sounds out of them. really fun to listen to. nice work!
  11. really, really digging this. great work, dude.
  12. thanks so much for the feedback, man! i really appreciate it. i haven't really thought about games or anything yet - i'm mostly just trying to get some experience with music production and writing original material. but game music is a big influence on the stuff i like to write.
  13. ambinate.bandcamp.com I just finished up my first release in the form of a free EP called "Transitory." I'd love for you to check it out and let me know what you think (even if you really hate it)! It's pretty mellow, mostly ambient-type stuff. I made the tracks in Logic, using Sculpture for most of the sounds (except for basses, pianos, harp on the last track, and drums). It was a lot of fun to write and experiment with, as I haven't had too much experience with production and this was my first real attempt at a project. So, yeah, take a listen and hit me up! Thanks a lot.
  14. this is fucking great. the arrangement is awesome and the production is really clean. i think this also makes a really cool statement in defense of remixes that focus more on textural rearrangements rather than melodic/harmonic ones. i can totally hear some michael cassette in this, too (who is also awesome).
  15. thank you for correcting me, as being wrong is no good, but also thank you for plugging this label i had never heard of, because there are some seriously excellent releases on here
  16. i think most netlabels offer their releases for free (as one of their basic principles), but i don't know if it's a rule or anything.
  17. i'm really digging these. really clean production, and the arrangements are great. the cymbal/fx work in these is pretty killer. nice work, dude!
  18. i haven't listened to the whole album yet, but i'm really digging what i've heard from the first few tracks. very chill, very relaxing, and the soundscapes are really well put together. especially impressive considering the tools you restricted yourself to. i'm looking forward to hearing the rest of this for sure.
  19. this is an awesome remix of a really rad source tune. is it just me or is that a guile theme reference at 2:44?
  20. he's probably talking about something like this: it's a whammy bar trick, but it's not really possible on guitars that don't have a whammy bar on them. this sounds incredible, by the way. i've been a metalhead and a guitar player for a long time and some of those clips are basically indistinguishable from a live recording to my ears. way impressive!
  21. martin's model numbering system is completely lost on me, so i can't point to a specific model, but they have a few acoustic/electrics in the $500-ish range that sound and play great. i picked up one about three years ago that i've been really happy with that i've used for playing shows and some recording. it's definitely taken a bit of beating but i haven't had any issues with it. one thing to note, though - of the martins i played while i was shopping around, i noticed that they tend to have pretty low action compared to most other brands, which is something i actually prefer but might not be your cup of tea. good luck with the search!
  22. there is so much awesome music on this, i can barely wrap my brain around it. i was really looking forward to hearing everyone's contributions, but this went way beyond my (already pretty high) expectations. super excited about sharing this and really glad i was able to be a part of it.
  23. man, this is fucking great. the production is excellent (and super crisp) and the writing is killer. congratulations, dude! i'll be listening to this for a good while. i creeped on you and started following you on soundcloud, so if you were wondering who the hell "ambinate" was, that's me. definitely looking forward to future releases
  24. could i get a name change to "ambinate" (all lowercase)? thanks a bunch!
