Hahahaha... I just heard the Mario coin that everyone's mentioned. Nice touch - I seriously didn't hear them before. By the way, you need more of the sliced female voice in this (like the one at 0:56) - it is sexy. I think I hear some over compression at ~2:28 with the drums, but I can't be absolutely sure (it's very minimal, if it's there at all). My god, it's all like a sweet, sweet euphony of Electronic & Orchestra sex. Chiptune walks in and finds out about Electronic's infidelity and, instead of repremading, it joins in to create an orgy like no other known to man. You know what I'm talkin' about, here. If this doesn't get direct posted, I don't know what would.

Sorry it took me so long to get to you with this - I've been using restricted computers that don't let me use flash players. Alright, let's see... Well, I like the feel. The flute is great, the piano fits well and the rest of the instrumentation is spot-on. The arrangement is pretty much there. There are a few little things that need to be addressed, but it's pretty sweet, atm. The piano is a touch bland, as it is right now. The notes it plays are fine, but there isn't enough 'touch' behind them (meaning it's a little inhuman). Without the humanization, the piano part becomes a bit muddy. The flute is fine, but sometimes it gets drown in the mix (like at 2:19). Bring the flute out a bit more, when you need to. I really like the subtle strings in the background - they help fill out the piece a lot. The mix is alright, although the mastering sounds like it could us a bit less in the mids and a touch more in the highs (not too much, though - it's almost there, as it is). Otherwise, I have nothing to say. This is a very well done mix, as it is. -

Well, there ya go - you've got a chill streak going, Rozo. The last F-zero mix you did was rather chill, this one is very chill, and you've got a Chill Penguin mix in the works (which was pretty chill, if I recall). Chilly. I like chilly, and I like this song. The instruments are a touch 'meh', but otherwise it goes down pretty smooth . -

Yeah, it's a bit late (I took a week off of this thread), but I was busy actually writing music. I have priorities, you know . Hello, OCR! Once again I'm using a rather general topic rather than a specific game, but it's something that I'm sure many of you can use, so bear with me! It's a common thing with older JRPGs, having peaceful towns that need help or supply you with a place to rest and such. What's so interesting about the town music from older JRPGs? I found that they follow a relatively rigid formula, which one could capitalize on if they need to have good ol' town music in an RPG. FFV FFV(2) It's interesting - I've noticed that many town songs seem to introduce a mellow theme, then follow it up with an elaboration or variation of that calm theme before moving into the 'B' section (the songs above are an example, but there are quite a few more that do this, as well). I won't go so far as to say every JRPG song does this, but I find that a great majority of them seem to do so. I can't say for sure why this is done (other than because it works ), but if I were to take a guess I'd say it's because the calm, peaceful introduction of the thematic material gives the illusion that the next part is peaceful, as well (which may not be so peaceful in the reiteration, in reality, like the Mario RPG rendition). Also, it is an effective way to extend a track without too much effort. If anyone else has any idea why this works so well, let me know - I'm really curious, and I don't have a definite answer. Thus, in theory, it would be possible to emulate this effect by doing the same thing yourself when composing a town theme for an old style JRPG. I did just that a few years ago - write a JRPG-style town theme (well, styled to represent a big city, actually) using the technique I explained above and expanding on it. I feel it captures the mood of a city perfectly, partly because it emulated the classic formula so well. For how rigid it is, you'll probably notice that there is a lot of room for variety, even with such a strict structure. The classic, rustic town is easy to find, but you'll notice that there is room for a royal city theme or even a big modern-city theme to follow this structure with ease. It's quite amazing, but not surprising - composers have written many amazing works using rigid structures and such. Try it out - you'd be surprised how well this works (and don't forget to share your examples if you do try it ). -
DAMN YOU FADEOUT!! I was just getting into it, too. The intro is considerably better - it gets me into the music well enough. The end (where you faded out) just sounds like it's going to get seriously epic, so fading out there is just downright cruel, man. The lead could use a bit of a boost in the high range, as it has a sort of muffled sound, atm. The electronica that you've got going could use a boost, as it's awesome, but hard to hear. I love that buildup at the end. This continues to expound on the potential of the song. Please don't forget about it - you need to finish it.

Tempo is mm.80 - it's on the first page there (although a bit hard to see), which is also the tempo of the track. By the way, thanks for helping Diotrans with the pronunciation . Overall style is pop, but that section is to be sung ''chant like'' as far as a popular style song can be. It's just a different part of the same song.I think it's deceptive for me to call this 'Pop'. I mean more lyrical (Enya, Sara Brightman and the like) than Brittney Spears 'Pop', if you know what I mean (yeah, now that I think about it Pop was a poor choice of words). Regardless, when I say 'chant like' I simply mean add some pulsation in your singing, much like in Chant, except I didn't have the time or space to write that in full . Overall style vs. specific effects. I can try to find a phonetic pronunciation of the lyrics, if that would help . -
New Music Creation Software: Need advice

I use Reason myself, but with an unlimited budget I wouldn't recommend it, personally. As much as I love it, I admit that it is rather limited. I hear FL Studios is pretty good, and Logic is a professional grade DAW (which was pretty good, from the short time I used it). I've never used Cubase, but other people swear by it. Reaper is great AND cheap, so even with an unlimited budget it might not be a bad option. Ultimately, your sound come down to your samples and plugins, so be sure to invest well when it comes to those. Remember, this is the type of hobby that you'll need to continually invest in as the technology gets better, so don't plan on spending a big ol' chunk of change on it and never spend another penny on it again - it doesn't work that way. Plan on investing a little bit into it here and there if you want to really get involved in it. Not a 'professional' opinion (well, except for the opinion on Reason), but hopefully it helps. Oh yeah, and MAGIX FTW - I loved that midi making program... I lost my program some time ago, though. I found it to be incredibly flexible considering it's price (back when I got it the program was 50$ - since they've tried going professional with it the price has gone up sixfold...). I miss my Magix . -

Yeah, that's sort of the reason I made a thread about it - hopefully it'll catch someone's eye, if some of the more popular singers cannot do it. I've updated the song on the first page (that's the full length of the song), and I created the sheet music for the vocal part (complete with measure, time and eraser markings ). If your interested take a look at the parts (and if you have difficulty reading it let me know and I'll update it with a cleaner part - I was up until 2:00am writing that ). Updated song (it's on the first page, too) Page 1 Page 2 Thanks for the link, DJP, and I have looked through it and pm'd a few people already . However, it'll be best if I leave this open for anyone to see - perhaps I'll find someone to sing it that I normally wouldn't find. I'm going for a more lyrical/pop sound for this tune, but I'm flexible with that (although I can say operatic probably won't work for this). Diotrans, if you'd like to take a shot at it that would be great (the lowest note is middle 'C' - if you can hit that you'll be able to sing this without too much trouble). As for the pronunciation, just stick to this rule of thumb and you'll be okay - articulate clearly and make the vowels as pure as possible. Obviously I can't go into too much detail without hearing what you have though. Hemophiliac and DrumUltimA, if you'd like to give male vocals a shot, that would be great . A tenor would be prefered, and I'd take the part down a perfect fourth so you can sing it (I can make a version that does that, if that would help). I prefer female vocals, as they would complete the open space that I'm going for well, but male vocals would work pretty well, too (as long as it isn't a bass or something). Thanks for the responses - hopefully we'll get some vocal love for this track . -

Hey, everyone! I'm in need of a female vocalist to sing the main line for a VG credits song I'm writing. The lyrics are the traditional latin 'Lux Aeterna' (they are public domain, don't worry), and this is the complete music you'll be singing to (there's about 30 seconds more of music that needs to be written, and there's no vocal part). This would be absolutely perfect with a singer to push the main theme of the game here in the credits. I'll be posting the full song, the full song with an imitation vocal part (to allow the singer to know what their singing easier) and sheet music for the vocal part no later than tomorrow, if your interested. There is a deadline that needs to be followed (August 9th; absolutely no later than the 12th), so be aware. Are there any singers here that would like to try their voice at this? Full credit will be given to the singer, of course (although I'm afraid other than that this will be voluntary). Feel free to either post in here or send me a PM if your interested. By the way, the vocal range works very well for a mezzo-soprano, but a soprano could work just as well, for those that are interested. EDIT: The music is updated, and here is the sheet music for the vocalist. I'll work on writing a part that s/he can listen to tonight. Neblixsaber, he was joking about you 'pestering' him (hence the tomato face). Don't worry about it too much. If the velocity changes don't do much try tweaking the actual volumes of the instruments - that's more flexible when it comes to imitating real instruments, anyway (it allows for real crescendo's & decrescendos, whereas velocities do not). The crash at 1:32 is better this time around, but you can probably tell there is still some clipage there (it could also use a little more resonant crash sound, as the one you use sounds like it mutes immediately). I think the sudden choir is excellent - making it swell would dull the effect in the beginning. Yeah, other than the brass-tastic comments (PoOr bRaSs SOuNd, RAWR ), I really like the flow of this song. Keep it up! ...and post the source for everyone - I would but I can't search for it, atm. Don't wait for me to do it; I won't out of a matter of principle, now .

It's a little weird, but record yourself playing some difficult game that your pretty good at. You notice a lot of freaky limbic responsiveness shit going on, like when I watch myself play Contra I notice myself jumping between three to four bullets on different trajectories then ducking under a fifth bullet to get a clear shot off some dude. I'm sure I didn't actually plan anything like that out, but due to a series of responses that went off in my head my fingers just went through the motions. Anyone notice that strange effect? It only happens when your familiar with the game (or at least with the genre) - give it a shot .

I'd like to tell you this is my favorite HoboKa submission here, hands down. The 'I'm watching a Metroid Movie' vibe I get from this is pretty cool . I personally found the intro to be perfectly fitting, considering the source (which you probably should post, dude). Everything up to 1:32 was pretty much how it needed to go down - clean and effective. At that point on, though, there tends to be a lot of clipping and such (it sounds like overcompression), which really takes away from what you had going there up until then. Just letting you know, Neblixsaber, bitrate wouldn't help this particular issue - it's just standard clipping .The brass is well placed, but it needs to sound much more human - right now it sounds like a midi slapped on top of a cool track. You know the routine - tweak the velocities and volumes until it sounds like a person is playing them . The big issue is the clipping, though. Fix the production quality on this, make the brass realistic and make it longer. I think you might have a real shot on the OC pages with this, so the best of luck (and don't even think about dropping this one). Interesting choice in source, by the way .

I think Rozo hit it on the head, there. Learn about EQing and such in order to separate the sounds from each other better. Other than that I like what you have. Far too conservative for OC, but again, your not going for that so who cares . I liked the organ and the drums, they made me smile . Yeah, the only way to learn is to just get out there and do it, so keep making music!
