  1. Oh wow... this piece has not aged well. At all. It's pretty much... actually no, it IS a Mario theme cover. Granted, it's OK, but it's absolutely nothing you haven't seen before. Nothing to see here, move along.
  2. This sounds like it came straight out of a Ocarina of Time temple, what with all the chanting and dark foreboding atmosphere. Everything, imo, sounds so bizarrely appropriate. All that "slightly off" unnatural feel to everything from the piano to the choir (especially the choir feels off) feels fitting for being lost in some dark, desolate swamp. The weak point of this mix is around 3/4 of the way in. There is when things feel so repetitive and like I've heard it a million times before, but for the most part this is a solid mix.
  3. This mix starts things out right by setting up the energy for the rest of the track and preparing the listener for the groove that comes next. Normally I like my tracks to be atmospheric/emotive/evocative of something, but, while this isn't the case here, this has a nicely varied sound scape and gobs of grooviness. This isn't exactly a groundbreaking or earth shattering track, but it is very, very good and worth a listen.
  4. While I really appreciate this mix's methodicalness, pacing, and mood, I don't really care for the saxophone samples nor really the sound scape itself. It doesn't really feels like it does a whole lot, not quite exactly spinning its wheels but... I dunno. Maybe this track just isn't clicking with me. The ending is especially blah with the sax repeating itself over and over. Anyway, I personally don't really care for this track.
  5. OoooOOoo... Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaang... This is just awesomely fun. Much precautions have been taken so that the listener does not get board with the track. The soundscape is so amazingly varied and the guitar work is jaw flooring. I also love that peaceful interlude with the guitar strumming, it's sort of like saying "Hey! Pay close attention to what's coming up." It's also strongly solid without being too overpowering or overwhelming. This is so going to my playlist.
  6. By and large this reminds me of the Dark Matter battle from Kirby 64, except a little more haunted-house-esque. I'm also quite impressed with this. While it is very energetically in your face and keeps a fast pace, it keeps a very pleasingly varied texture and soundscape (which I have to admit I wasn't expecting for a track with as "thick" textures/soundscape as this one has, if that made any sense) I also appreciate the slower tempo pauses for the listener in an otherwise exhausting track. This is a really amazing track and highly recommended.
  7. Lol, this is definitely my kind of mix, emotive and weighty. Oddly, I don't feel this as being specifically atmospheric. It also balances precariously between making the listener be an active one or a passive one. There's enough texture here and change in dynamics to make this a pleasant listen, but like as has been mentioned this is sleep inducing. It has a very tidal, natural rhythm to it and an amazingly overpowering peaceful feeling inducing property. This is the kind of complexity I like in the track, and this is so worth listening to.
  8. This is a really, really weird track, imo. It's like 97% Textures and 3% Melody. o_O I feel like I'm in a planetarium listening to a disco party one room over and with a brass section down the hall. Eh...... While the texturalness of this is nice, textures alone does not make an interesting track, and this track doesn't really do too much to be interesting to listen too. And yes, the intro is way too long for a track like this. I recommend just passing on this one.
  9. As a semi-direct consequence of this, I went out and got the rest of the album and haven't regretted it. But this (and the rest) are truly awesome songs. What I love is how they greatly expanded the robot masters' personalities, turning Airman into a pained being bent on destruction because of how his design curses him to live a life of forced solitude. This is one of those mixes whose depth of enjoyment isn't just limited to mere musical arrangement but to the philosophical expansion of a personality of a character, in this case Airman from MM2. This piece comes so highly recommended.
  10. Now this is interesting.... It's like it's trying to relay the story of how someone infiltrated a factory. There's textural streaks of severity, knowing of consequences, tenseness, pride, & duty all running throughout this mix. Wow, this is really a cool mix. The atmosphere isn't quite as thick or heavy as I was expecting, but what it does offer has a very unique flavor and vibe.
  11. As a person who likes atmosphere in their mix, this is a very solid song. It's not flawless though. It does loose some of its strength between the middle and the end. It switches from a murky sense of danger to a little more generic sense of atmosphere. The same atmospheric weight is there, but the actual flavor feels nullified by some of the instrumental and style choices. Still, this is an interesting little mix and I like it.
  12. This mix does wonderful things. It presents an atmosphere devoid of anything without the mix feeling empty itself. The atmosphere is so relaxingly cold and simply beautiful I can picture some forgotten snowbank somewhere perhaps in forgotten Chernobyl. It does an a mind blowingly good job of doing what it was intended to do. This the song of emptiness, this is the song of nothingness, this is the song of desolation. Go check it out because this is just sheer amazing.
  13. LOL, yeah... Especially after listening to Rayza's other ending Remix I was expecting a little more of the same. But Then... With a scream and bass line, things start grooving and groove well. I really like this; it's uncomplicated both in scope and depth. It's as if some one took the whole attitude of "Boo-Yah" and distilled it into a mix. Like DA said, check it out.
  14. I'm split down the middle down this one. >.< On one hand, I really like this but I can't really think of a reason why. It just feels like a really cool mix and a good groove. Yet on the other hand, it is soooooo repetitive and cyclic. Each section of the song feels like a repeat of the last. Probably one of the most repetitive I've heard recently actually.... ARG!.... blah.... My recommendation is to just at least listen to it and decide for yourselves.
  15. This is definitely a crazy good mix. It's not quite so atmospheric or contextual as blast awesomeness straight at you, plain and simple. I also like that mix of piano and synth making it sort of a computer meets human feel. While I wouldn't label it a truly groundbreaking or innovative mix, it's still great and worth checking out.
  16. This really strikes me as like a world weary traveler, someone who hasn't seen home in a long time, especially with the introducing beach sound effects and the piano by the sea feel. The "reflective" in the title feels incredibly appropriate 'cause once listening to this one can tell that the work is done and now is the time for resting, and I appreciate the truth in advertising aspect about this mix. It's truly a wonderful mix, but it's a little too saccharine, imo, for my tastes.
  17. I actually found this buried deep within my OCR playlist, and I can't believe I forgot about this. Like djp, said this is just so incredibly fun. I love DA's vocal work here. :3 It's so airily uplifting. Whenever I listen to this I smile on the inside. It actually reminds me a lot of the vocal tracks from Sonic R where everything was so peppy and energizing yet carefree and whimsical. This is a really wonderfully breezy mix no one should miss.
  18. Everything about this mix has a mystical and full of awe and wonder vibe to it, and I really like how it develops into a smooth jazz feel. I can almost feel the lights dim and a little fog roll out as I listen to this, lol. There are an appreciable large amount of textures here at play making the atmosphere feel weighty and tangible. Definitely a wonderful track to go check out.
  19. Heh... This is a cute sea shanty. Reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean to a degree. It also reminds me of Wind Waker/One Piece/Monkey Island to a degree also (in general thematics that is, not musical themes). It has that innocent/hopeful streak running through it as well in addition to that grandiose "We're off on a Grand Adventure" type feel to this. I like this; it's very light hearted and inspiring.
  20. Whoa.... The atmosphere is so thick I could cut it with a knife; oh how I love it, lol. I keep thinking of something like a nighttime Japanese marsh in the rain with a lone lantern stuck on a pole, something from a Hayao Miyazaki film, whenever I listen to this. The laborious effort in this mix astounds me; it feels so wonderfully weighty. This is one of those rare mixes that is so unique that you will most likely never find another like it; go check it out.
  21. This is beautiful. Why... why haven't I heard this before?! Also, the intro reminds me of something and I can't think of what and it's killing me. ARG! Aaannnyway, this is simply a wonderful track, everything has a rolling "being carried by waves" feel to it, not to mention this strikes a curious and unique balance between the natural, inherent energy found in rock with a very comforting, sleepy pace. Oh, wow. This is a must download.
  22. I really liked how the intro was semi-deceiving about the true nature of this track. It was all down low percussion and Wham-o, guitars. I agree with previous sentiments that this is just straight up metal, and while I can't shake the feeling that this is a little generic and repetitive, I still like it. In the end, it's not too bad, and I would still recommend checking it out.
  23. I like how this has it's own different brand of ambiance than other Aquatic Ambiance mixes; this reminds me of like wading through some swamp during some starlit night with an accompanying backup band. Also that guitar and piano work is amazing; all of the live touches really add to the personality of the mix. Admittedly, I don't really care for the post ~3:20 bit, where everything seems to explode loudly and the mood goes dire. Still, this is quite an amazing mix, and I definitely recommend checking it out.
  24. This mix adds too much energy to a source that, imo, needs to stay slow and mellow; it just feels to miss-matched and out of place. While the combination feels a little awkward and panicky, it is pulled off successfully and retains some of its foggy laid back nature. Also some of the synths feel odd and out of place, but in the end, this is still a very solid and highly recommended remix
  25. This song is so wonderfully... well, ambient. Each little thread of melody seems to be coming and going out of some hazily comforting fog. Everything just screams, "Yo, chill out..." Definitely a very appropriate mix to just mellow out to. It strangely feels cyclic yet not repetitive... huh.... Still it's a great mix to have in any OCR collection.
