OCR02187 - Sonic Adventure "Peacemaker"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
A Halc song that isn't chiptuned? Whoa.....but hey, if you can make it sound good, why not? And that is what Halc does here. A cool natural-sounding ReMix with a tinge of eastern to it. Very nice, smooth, chill ReMix. -
OCR02184 - Revenge of Shinobi & Lost Odyssey "Eternal Tears"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Very nice. You really nailed a feeling of sadness with this ReMix and it's funny how well this can be put into the context of a love story like Darkesword mentions. Great work with the acoustic guitar and the piano. Chill and kinda distant, a nice way to rearrangement some Shinobi stuff. Well done. -
OCR02182 - Super Metroid "Dieselbrainage"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Now this is a villain theme! Dark DnB with pure evil mechanical sounding arrangement, and I'm so there. That shot at Samus with Vincent Price laughing is classic. I have to admit, Mazedude always seems to nail it right on the head when you need to add a little chaos to the mix. Well done. -
OCR02181 - Super Metroid "The Bounty of a Brain"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
That build-up was tense and suspenseful, which worked really well for breaking into the theme of Samus. I actually regret never having played Metroid (I'll be working on correcting that soon enough), but I'm sure that if I had played this before, this would just enhance everything that I would have loved about it. It just has the level of quality that makes me think that these themes have been kicked up a notch, because they have. -
OCR02180 - Secret of Monkey Island "Voodoo, Roots 'n Grog"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Now that's what I call funky! Damn, this has a groove that just don't quit, and I love the chiptune breakdown. Nice throwing Sagat in there for extra funk. Love the trombone, the piano, the arrangement, hell, everything on this ReMix sounded great. Sweet ReMix, fellas. -
OCR02179 - Secret of Monkey Island "Pirate Shout"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Pirate metal? Oh hell yeah.....It does have a feeling of what a chanty would be like if cranked up to twelve. The vocals sound really energetic and fit the style. And that bit where it gets off the metal and goes natural for a little bit was awesome. This is for sure going on my playlist. You just can't beat pirates. mate. -
OCR02177 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "Go Ninja, Go"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I got to hand it to bLiNd, he knows how to electrify the hell out of a song. This ReMix has a pretty nice blend of drums, electronica and guitar, and the second half of this song was pretty interesting. A nice change of pace to go out on. -
OCR02176 - Tails and the Music Maker "Picolescence"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Tails had a game? Wow. Anyway, an impressive ReMix in a span of three hours. I wouldn't have believed it if it was Zircon. And once again, Zircon creates something with an amazing beat and I have to say that this is probably the best Pico ReMix I've ever heard. And I mean ever. -
First off, gotta say that the SFX at the beginning was pretty interesting. Nice tropical/Latin jazz, which is one of the few kinds of jazz I can stand for a while, which is good considering that this is more than eight minutes long. And making an eight minute song that doesn't get dull halfway through is a feat in itself. I really enjoyed the slower part where the drums took over. Great solos and great ReMix overall.

OCR02174 - Goonies II "I'm Taking It All Back"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Password screens aren't the kinds of tracks that I can imagine ReMixers being able to ReMix with ease, so getting this kind of result is pretty sweet. It sounds like early OCR at some points, which isn't a bad thing, and the low-finess keeps the spirit of the original alive, which I liked. So yeah, nice debut. Nice debut with numbers and passwords. Data likes. -
OCR02173 - BlazBlue "Tao Is Taokaka"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
You know, it does have a bit of a carnival sound to it at various parts due to the melody, and that piano sounds pretty good, again for the melody. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is one of those ReMixes where several things that may turn people off can come together to create a whole lot of right. This reminds me of something that could go to a Sonic GBA game for a lighter, happier zone or something. Not bad at all. -
OCR02172 - Castlevania II "A Belmont's Curse"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hard hitting gothic metal, not a bad thing on a slow day like this. But wait, what's this? An acoustic guitar area as well? Now that is a nice idea consider how close the intro was. Any kind of change-up just takes it to that next level. I like how it sort of eased back into the metal bits, like something that arrived with purpose. This is something that someone can walk to and feel like a badass. Nice work on this. -
OCR02138 - NiGHTS into dreams... "The Polar Express"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is a perfect track for Ice Day, and really, what more can you ask for with light, whimsical themes than NiGHTS? This really could be used for a wide overhead view of the polar express or just a vast winter wonderland at night. So smooth and calming, and a nice melody along with it. Terrific. -
OCR02137 - Final Fantasy X "Rondo Sanctuary"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Groovy and chill(y), this has an awesome beat that just brings out the energy in me. Not exactly the kind of beat that makes me want to dance, but it does get my attention very well. The vocal interjections were pretty cool, and overall this ReMix is just too smooth. Like fresh ice. Morse nails it again. -
OCR02136 - Contra Force "Power Trip"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Good god, I love the bass and percussion of this ReMix. It was very nice to hear Contra Force getting some respect and love in the way, and you totally brought justice to this song, especially when you kicked it into high gear about halfway through. Badass stuff, man. -
OCR02133 - Tecmo Bowl "Touchdown Hoedown"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hehe, this brings back good memories of both the game and DJP's old track. Good ol' country boy track that just puts a smile on my face, especially the clapping parts. Damn, it's things like this that make me want to go yee-haw! Super fun, sounds great and is just a thrill to listen to. Awesome. -
OCR02132 - Contra III "Dystopian Future"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Yeah, this is one of those jazz pieces with energy to them that, unless you are extremely tired, I can't imagine being able to chill out to or fall asleep to. But it does provide an interesting take on the Contra 3 music. Not exactly my cup of tea, but as for the arrangement and production of it all, I can at least enjoy it for what it is. Nice work. -
OCR02131 - Final Fantasy IV "Treason"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This ReMix is certainly aggressive as all hell and it just screams brutal things. The playing and the rage coming off of it was certainly one of the best parts of this song, and the Castle Damcyan part was the one I thought was pulled off the best. The transistions were pretty good, and the one little nitpick I the drums sounded off or something during the Fiends theme. Not sure if it was me, the headphones I'm using or the actual song, but that part didn't gel with me. Other than that, pretty good ReMix. -
OCR02129 - Teen Agent "A Village's Welcome"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It does sound like it would work for a small village during Christmas. It just has that happy joyful feeling that kinda makes you feel at home when you listen to it. Lots of grand instrumentation to give it that true orchestral appeal, like you be seeing it live. Very nice, VHD. -
Happy birthdays peoples!

OCR02115 - Super Mario Bros. 2 "Melancholy Dreams"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Please.....tell me more. On a more serious note, I love more Middle Eartern feeling of this ReMix rather than the endless droning that it usually conjures up. It's amazing how something so damn repetitive can be made into a long and elaborated ReMix like this. The ending is pretty abrupt, but honestly, that's about the only issue I have with this one. As I expected from Vurez, this is a terrific piece. -
OCR02112 - Shantae: Risky's Revenge "Baal Bhaagna"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This screams "Bollywood!" at the top of it's lungs. This is incredibly brilliant! I could just imagine this being used in a Bollywood film or something close to that. It's got action scene written all over it, especially from the intro and I just can't express how much this ReMix rocks. Love the use of the vocals as well. Recommended by far. -
Whoo, boy, is this funky! The groove mixed with piano was just what I needed to get into a dancing mood! See, this is why I have such faith in the OC ReMixers. Such little tunes being turned into full-scale songs of enjoyment for all. Jingle all the way, indeed.
