OCR01943 - Final Fantasy VI "Behind Enemy Lines"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Two words that I can think of to describe this ReMix would be "grand" and "epic". It really does sound like a war movie theme, especially with those drums and ascending strings. Such a great orchestration of the themes here. Awesome ending as well. -
Diggin' the electronic sound of this one. Lots of energy and while I agree with the judges that the drums are a bit meh, the whole ReMix is great. This is a risk that I think paid off extremely well for you, WillRock. As for "not getting the sound right", I think that actually helped this ReMix by sounding a hair off. It came off unique and cool, so kudos.

OCR01939 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III "BTMNTBAMLOL"

So good to hear the half-shell opening this ReMix up for the intro, then kick in with some mean-ass guitar. Seriously, that guitar is a bully, that's how mean it is. Damn good work in the drumming sections as well. This is pure rock and I can dig every part of it, especially the "hey, hey!" parts with the Technodrome spiced with some half-shell. -
OCR01938 - EarthBound "Psi Piano Omega"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh yes! I love solo piano pieces so much. Not familiar with the source, but from what I hear, the playing was done well here. Great arrangement, better production than some piano pieces I've heard before and a nice touch of happy, quirky jabs. I agree with the Peanuts vibe in some areas. Sweet stuff. -
OCR01937 - Mega Man 3 "Ravaging Reptile"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Crazy. I love the energy of this chip-tune ReMix right here. I love how it has almost a strange mix between real and chip, which melds together nicely. The bits around 2:20 was cool, and right after that was my favorite part. Hard to describe, but I loved it. Nice work. -
Man, lots of great energy, which is really fitting for what the ReMix is of. The beat is hot and I love the mix of semi-chip-fi and electronica. I don't think I've heard another ReMix exactly like this in sound, and unique is almost always good, so A+ here. Minibadass indeed.

OCR01935 - Lost Odyssey "A Mighty Enemy on the Battlefield"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Metal from the Dual Dragons, I already knew this was going to be a beast of a ReMix, and I was right. A little bit tamed in speed and power compared to the other stuff I've heard from them, but just as good. Those guitars hit hard and the drumming work is wonderful. Everyone else has mentioned the ending, so I don't think I need to, but other than that, an ace performance, fellas. -
OCR01933 - Super Metroid "Berinstar"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm enjoying the use of Berimbau, acoustic guitars and bass here. It paints a good, laid-back picture which was a surprise considering the source. Sounds great and peaceful, but with some energy behind it. Nice ReMix. -
OCR01932 - Tales of Symphonia "Pixelated Tales"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Cool happy tune that brings up a smile once the main melody kicks in. Some of the samples came off a bit loud, but that's no huge deal to me. I hear a bit of Sonic-like qualities in this mix, and that's great. Chip tunes and happy, bubbly music, it's like PB and J. Digging the ending as well. -
OCR01929 - Castlevania III "Madd Forest"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Piano, organ, hot-beat bass and vinyl scratching in one ReMix? Yes! I think it'd be a bit redundant to say why I love Morse's style of work at this point, but the man is the master of funk and groove. Damn good mix and a wonderful album. -
OCR01928 - Castlevania II "The Solace of the Daylight"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Jazzy-latin with an organ intro. Pretty rad. When you need to kick back and get your tropics on, you call Morse and this ReMix is one of examples why. I never heard the original, so going off of this, I really enjoyed the instrumentation used, especially the solo at the end. -
OCR01927 - Castlevania "Vampire Snap"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Definitely a head-nodder that has a great vibe to it. It's so odd to hear a rendition of this theme in anything other than gothic, but that's not a bad thing. Morse made this work to perfection and I found myself grooving to it. I really like how this is borderline tropical. So cool. -
OCR01925 - Knuckles' Chaotix "Door into Chaotix"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Busting out with chip tunes on this ReMix kinda surprised me consider who did it, but it's impressive. Very happy with a decent load of upbeat energy and it does fit well for a happy dance. Nice work on this one. -
OCR01922 - Xenogears "Akkadia Rising"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hmm. I never really wondered what dark jazz that was almost menacing at times and light at others would sound like, but it's pretty neat. A little mesmerizing in its atmosphere, and that sax is simply tasty. This album has so many great tracks like this one and it ones like this that makes me want to actually play the game now. -
OCR01921 - Xenogears "Of Sea and Fire"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
My thoughts exactly. The Celtic vibe sucked me right in and made me grin from ear to ear. Terrific work with the violin and the piano as well. Perfect for sailing or just kickin' it up in the rocky paths. It's amazing that you can make something sound so good for longer than six minutes, but you pulled it off to damn near perfection. Epic work, dude. -
Grand opening that drives right into a jazzy funky little tune? Well, alright! Not a fan of the horn either, but the rest of the instrumentation had me tapping my foot severely. I swear I heard something around 1:30 that reminds me of another game, but I'm drawing a blank on the name. I love how this bounces around and doesn't sit in one place the whole time. Not crazy about the ending, but all in all, this is one fine ReMix.

OCR01920 - Xenogears "Omen (R3 Mix)"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ooooh, cool! Dark electronica with a metallic foreboding feeling. Me likely. Not a feel good tune, but it does elicit feelings and that's a great thing when you can manage it. The heartbeat was a sweet touch that fit right in. A bit sharp in areas, but it's not that bad at all. Other than that tiny thing, great ReMix. -
OCR01919 - Xenogears "When the Smoke Clears"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Amzing guitar melody here. Very beautiful and peaceful, but in an active way rather than a chill way. Love the acoustic human feel of this, which goes really well with the idea of the album. The woodwinds that join in, simple gorgeous. Gotta agree that this is one of, if not, the best track off the album. -
OCR01995 - Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask "Link to the Mask"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Man, Dazey's vocals were awesome, but they kinda make the rap lyrics seem out of place right after that. I like the rap and the lyrics themselves, but it just seems odd to me after that intro. I love the SFX used here, and overall this ReMix was very good. -
OCR01923 - Xenogears "Daijiru (Too Hot for Clothes)"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh.....oh my. Now, every so often I come across a ReMix that goes to the realm of hot and dirty, and this is one of those ones. Love the use of the hentai samples in this exotic sounding ReMix. Probably not a ReMix I want to be playing with certain people around for obvious reasons, but myself, I thoroughly enjoy this catchy erotic song. -
I can't get enough of those backing vocals that keep up as this ReMix goes on and the tense-like epic sound that gives it a bit of dark vibe is awesome. Cool intro as well.

OCR01917 - Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker "First Time on Outset"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I think it's been said several times before, but it also sums up how I feel about this ReMix. It's just way too fun to listen to. Halc's style is instantly recognizable, and it's hard for me to pick on things he puts out. This ReMix is happy and just lets the good feelings flow. Nicely done. -
First off, I really like the little vocal intro. That beat is hot and the instrumentation really does bring on images of a futuristic Hong Kong, which altogether makes this ReMix pleasant to the ears. Gotta love it when you can throw in a bit of electronica with some worldly flavor.
