OCR01959 - Radical Dreamers "Thrash's Snakebone Pit"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh, a tense dark ReMix! I love those strings you added in the intro and the drums back them up nicely right before the metal opens up at the end of the first minute. Sounds really evil until the break, but still maintains a slightly menacing feel with the guitar. Wonderful work with the guitar solos and the overall arrangement. It's got a monstrous attitude and this is going' right in my playlist. -
OCR01941 - Banjo-Kazooie "Wallachian Prince"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is pretty fun ReMix to listen to. That combination of guitar and violin was awesome and had a very cool mix of orchestration and rock that I wasn't really expecting. It's the perfect length, the instruments sounded good and I'm loving the direction you took this in. Really great work on this ReMix. -
OCR01830 - Gradius III "Declaration of War"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The piano intro was a good intro to a great rock ReMix. Everything sounded awesome and clear, and while the arrangement got pretty close in certain areas, it still manages to pull off a cool anthem-like sound. Oh, man, that soloing near the ending was freaking amazing. And I enjoyed how it came to an almost heroic finish with it slowing down slightly. Very strong finish and a sweet collab ReMix. -
Man, when this ReMix opens up with those driving guitars, this piece rocks HARD! I'm a real fan of the rocking melody being backed up by all the synths, drums and bass. Great take on the Boss theme. I gotta say, normally I don't like high synth sounding openings like that, but thankfully it wasn't out alone for too long, and once everything emerged to follow its lead, I enjoyed it. Terrific ReMix, OA.

OCR01751 - Kirby's Dream Land 2 "Puffball Promenade"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm really enjoying the up and down arrangement of this entire ReMix. It was a neat idea to have the guitars here go from harder to softer piano and such. The light sections sound happy and puffy, while the harder areas keep this from being too light and poppy. The piano was nicely done and I was impressed by the balance here. Great arrangement, solid production and the whole sounds fantastic. -
OCR01721 - Terranigma "Afternoon Tea with SnappleMan's Mom"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Well, that is an interesting ReMix title. Very happy and light-hearted, this one is. It does vaguely have a bit of a garden/tea party sound to it, and it's very pleasant to the ear. I just love how tastefully happy this song is, and while tastefully happy isn't really my thing, this was a wonderfully done ReMix. Great instrument choices, neat arrangement and good production. What a lovely cup o' tea this is. -
OCR02162 - Armored Core 4 "Goodbye, Thinker"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow. After the last three AC ReMixes that I heard had faster, frantic tempo, this surprised me in a good way with a slower, more rock-inducted electronic song. Where the other ReMixes put me in a hyper high, this brought me back to an almost peaceful harmonic state. 1:20's area was very interesting and all in all, this ReMix was very solid. The vocals were amazingly beautiful and this is a great track off one of my favorite albums. -
OCR02099 - Silent Line: Armored Core "Morning, Thinker"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice to hear a little bit of rock and some guitars and such in the type of dance/electronica music I love so much. The robo-vocals were amazing and DA completely nailed this part down. It was almost like a robot trying to solo a rock song, and it's oddly amusing in a great way. So much energy, it's really hard to hate this and not want to move around. The ending was a little abrupt to me, but I can easily forgive that considering what was being done here. -
OCR02230 - Final Fantasy V "A Healer's Touch"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice, somewhat somber opening with the Prelude theme over top of the guitar and bell. I actually thought this was pretty cool to lead in with right before the happier guitar playing moments later as a contrast, and the song just picks up from there. It's got a great peaceful feeling, like everything is gonna be okay. The arrangement is awesome and damn near perfect, and I think the production was rather clean, so really, amazing ReMix with no qualms from me. -
OCR02229 - Final Fantasy V "In the Shadows"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Third on agreeing. I actually got the picture of a clock-like beat to this with the pizzicato before reading the write-up, but I can see the thief thing now that I think about it. This is very creative and interesting, with a nice upbeat feeling to it. It really gets a bit weird and quirky, but that just adds to the cleverness of this ReMix. Great ReMix all the way through and I can't think of any complaints here. Nice job. -
OCR02218 - Chaos Field "Knowing Heart, Distant Noise"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I love the crystal bell-sounding intro and the little bit of energy this brings to the darker atmosphere here. Not sure I could dance to this at all, but it's definitely a toe-tapper (or head-nodder if you prefer). It's got a fantastic beat and while some of the notes in this seem a bit too sharp, it's got a great arrangement and the production is done nicely. Great ideas with the wiggly synth and I liked the ending as well. Good ReMix here. -
OCR02210 - Mega Man 6 "Yamato Spear"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Heh, nice funky-semi-Japanese ReMix you got here, Morse. Yamato Man really was ridiculous, but his theme was still good, and you really expanded on it with some groovin' jazz beats. I love how you were able to keep some ethnic feel to this ReMix while making it into something you can really dance to. I wasn't crazy about the glitchy part right around 2:50,but other than that one small thing, I loved this tune. Truly nice work, man. -
OCR02191 - Missile Master "Frozen Hotslug"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Liking the chill static intro here, and the entire atmosphere of this ReMix does scream icy area. The bass sounded nice and I really enjoyed the speed-up just after a minute. The whole thing got pretty busy near the end without sounding like a mess, so really nice. I don't think it was that short, but it was a bit shorter than I would have thought. Still, long or short, Mazedude delivers on this ReMix. -
OCR02206 - The Ninja Warriors "Crispy Crimson"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Oh, man, that intro is hard-hitting as all hell. The lead guitar melody is absolutely amazing and those chords remind me of another song that I can't name at the moment. That change at around 1:35 was epic. The transition later on would spot-on and sounded great. Not a fan of the ending, but that's just a preference thing, cause it still sounded good. Gotta say, I enjoyed this one, and it needs to be repeated, that intro was gold. -
Damn, that's a pretty catchy and spooky intro. I love the dark beat there right before it bursts out into hectic drum and bass. I am in love with that rolling section between 1:40 and 1:55. This really works for a upbeat Halloween scene and the percussion sells this ReMix completely. All in all, this has a wonderful sound and arrangement. Amazing work on this creepy little tune.

OCR02214 - Rad Racer II "Fire in the TIres"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Whoo-hoo, some good classic rock! At least, that's what it feels like to me. Terrific work on the guitars and the killer soloing with the synths. I actually dig the claps in it, but some of the production sounds a little muffled in places. Nothing that detracts from the song, though, and overall, I really liked this. -

*Feel ground rumbling* Oh no......I'm feeling an overwhelming presence of evil animosity with a hunger for destruction and a voice of rage approaching..........could it be.......!? -
OCR02193 - Pokémon Gold Version "Argent Vexemon"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Man, you have a way with Pokemon ReMixes, especially with the dark intro and grooves. It really sounds like it belongs in a cave setting and it's a little haunting. Very ambient and the dark atmosphere is amazing in this one. I actually liked the fade out ending here. Great stuff. -
OCR02261 - NiGHTS into dreams... "Overnight Cloverleaf"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
NiGHTS has quickly become one of my favorite albums on OCR, thanks to songs like this one. I'm impressed by Jose's versatility and the way this jazzy little ReMix continues that "flying through the air" feeling that a lot of NiGHTS tracks have. Love the piano and I liked the little jingle at the end. So smooth and while not overly upbeat, it's got a cool mix of energy and soft chilling music. Great job on this one here. -
Now, THIS, is Latin jazz, baby! This is absolutely tropical sounding and the arrangement, damn! Funky and just gushing with upbeat energy. Amazing drum work and I liked the flute solo. It even has that "tweet-ta-tweet tweet!" whistle that I enjoy in these kinds of songs. This would fit perfectly for a party.....and in a way it kinda reminds me of your Jungle ReMix from DKC2. That slowdown near the end was a great touch and this is just made for a tropical vacation.

Whoo, dance time! Oh, that is an awesome beat, and I think DJP and OA nailed it calling it space disco. Very catchy electronica and it is so good for perking up. Yeah, a few more sentences in the lyrics could have helped add a bit of variety to the ReMix, but the different ways it was filtered and changed up when it was said made it last a little longer than it would have otherwise. So while I can see why some wouldn't like it, I actually loved it and it worked well for this ReMix. This kind of ReMix is one of my favorite as far as genres go
-
Oh, yeah, funky! Man, I really enjoyed those solos, from the guitar to the keyboard and on. You can definitely get your groove on to this jazzy beat. Wasn't really feeling the ending, as it seemed to just jump up out of nowhere. I can hear some of the Latin style at some points and altogether, not my favorite ReMix off this album, but it works.

OCR02347 - Descent "Lost in the Mines"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Yeah, I'm totally liking the beat and that amazing guitar work. The into was soft and entertaining and the ending was built up really well. From front to back, I was pretty fond of this ReMix. The piano was done very well and had a good chilling reverb to it. The breakdown was handled impressively and I agree with the judges on this being very clear. Pretty good for a debut, looking forward to seeing more. -
Mmmm, loving this one. Dark keyed solo-piano with a nice arrangement and great production. You know that it's really good when you can keep other people's attention going for more than five minutes, especially for a piano only piece. I'm not sure what it is about the Zelda series that lends itself so well to piano, but this was a great rendition of the Eagle's Tower. Very nice.

OCR02228 - Final Fantasy V "Edge of Valor"
Crulex replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wow, amazing orchestral piece here. It's got a nice solid, steady build to it and delivers on the grand feeling, complete with a smooth slowdown. The bass and drums sounded great and the entire ReMix had a score-like charm to it. Wonderful heroic arrangement that has it's reflective moments, which pulled the whole thing together. Very nice.
