  1. When people say "gems of old OCR", this is without a doubt one of them. I think I found my Jazz groove. 1950's coffeehouse it is! As for the mix, the music flows so smoothly inbetween transitions and the sound is just so natural! I can actually picture this being played in a jazz club (well, this style of jazz club anyway). Very good arrangement and you kept with the style flawlessly. Damn good work.
  2. A little dated, but not a bad ReMix. It has a great beat to it and a nice groove throughout. While I would have loved to have heard a bit more adventuring as the mix went on, for what it is, it's good.
  3. Alright, so this is an okay ReMix and sounds like great backing track tunes. The "Get Ready" bits didn't annoy me as much as it did to everyone else, and the soloing part was nicely done. Not bad.
  4. Not bad. It sets up the atmosphere fairly well as the ReMix progresses and has a good beat layered over some decent techno. A bit industrial and mysterious, and one of the better early mixes. Very nice.
  5. Interesting. It's funny for sure, and the computerized voice was pretty different for what I used to hearing. Also, the music itself was good, which is a no-brainer considering the source. But it seems to me that it has a few kinks in coming together. I liked the idea, but I think those few issues caught up with it in the end.
  6. Very chill and relaxing, and it doesn’t sound horrible. Unfortunately, that’s all I can really say. It just seems to go on for a while before hitting that groove close to the fourth minute. Not a bad ReMix at all, and I enjoyed it, but it just seems a tad tame and long for me.
  7. Sweet, the French Horn and disco backing music works really well here. Kinda heroic while injecting some energy into the ReMix. Not much else I can say, other than this is one of those old tracks that aged very nicely.
  8. Not bad at all. I enjoyed the percussion and the military beat used during the majority of the ReMix, although it could stand to be a wee bit heavier. The pacing and arrangement of the song was good and the ending was amazing. Pretty good for an older song.
  9. Okay, so I actually kinda like this ReMix a bit. The samples are a bit rough and parts of it are just begging to be expanded, but I liked the arrangement and I would really love to see a super polished newer version of this. This is just one of the mixes that makes me wonder what they would sound like if done by todays standards. Nice.
  10. The Rock as Fred Flintstone? Nice........I see what he did there.
  11. Man, that's really touching. It's such a shame that he was so young.
  12. Funny, it almost sounds like a Zelda version of the BGM to one of my Clue games that has this genre. Very catchy, smooth, chill and it seems to be one of those "days of yore" gems. Nicely done with smoothing it back out after letting it take off. Could have been a bit longer, but really no complaints from me.
  13. Um, no. Sorry, just no. Way too short, way too MIDI, and there is really nothing saving this ReMix other than the fact that it's funny to listen to.
  14. Nice and catchy, but a wee bit too close to the original. I could almost picture it being from the game itself rather than a ReMix. But it's not bad and it sounds good. For when it was made, this is nicely done.
  15. I can't unhear the Brentalfloss version whenever I hear the original theme. But this isn't bad at all. This is the kind of ReMix that grows on me and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked the scratching bits after the looping laugh, but not so much the laugh. All in all, one of the better early OCR's. Long live the Konami code.
  16. Sugar high is right. This is a bit too happy for me. Though it did have a good arrangement and really perked me up after listening, it's just not my thing.
  17. This ReMix took me quite a few listens before I could form a solid opinion. So let me preface this by saying that I'm not overly fond of Dubstep (don't hate it, just not my favorite sub-genre of electronica) and Mario RPG is one of my favorite games (and it has some of the best songs). So with my biases even, let's see here....I'm only against the drums and a few minor bits (like the whistle from 1:42 to 2:00). But I totally dig this track. Honestly, it's weird, kinda messed up in a good way, and really interesting to listen to. It has plenty of variation, the source tune is clearly represented, doesn't take forever to get to different sections and fans of Dubstep will love this (well, most will. Can't speak for everyone, of course). So yeah, I like it, and I gotta agree with some of the others. Don't let any negative reviews get you down cause you have lots of potential. Nice debut.
  18. Alright, yeah, this sounds downright pretty. The piano bits and light tune makes this fit together and the melody is easy to follow. A bit too happy for me, but it's not ruined by any major problems, so it still works as a good ReMix.
  19. A little trip hop, and it's not bad. I wasn't fond of the voices, but it didn't detract from the ReMix too much on my end. Not amazing, but very good all in all.
  20. Okay, so this was a good song with a nice arrangement, but the samples were a bit weak and the whole thing wasn't overly remarkable. Still, it's got a nice beat and holds your attention long enough to tune out and get work done with headphones on, so well done on that.
  21. Okay, yeah, so it's a bit dated, but it's still got a great beat to it. It's an interesting mix, and it's at least listenable. I will say though that I liked the intro and towards the end when it slowed back down to a bit of a chill.
  22. Impressive! This is a very nice little ReMix that seems to be a few years ahead of its time. Although it's a bit short and could do with a little more expansion, for what it is and when it was made, this is an amazing piece to listen to.
  23. Very fitting for the Halloween season. It's got that spooky arrangement that would be a hit at a local Halloween party. A little too much boom tss for me, but the bells (I adore bells) makes up for it, and it's just so toe-tappingly catchy that the minor age issues don't bother me. So good!
  24. That sonar was so good! Perfect backing for this track, and for such a simple idea, that sonar was probably the cherry on top of this mix. I gotta say, I'm becoming more of a fan of jazz with every ReMix I listen to that has some form of it, and I kinda dig the ambient jazz that lets it switch up the melodies without crashing. It feels like it's meant to bring up images of the sea, and considering the game and source, that's a plus.
