  1. I kind of like them. Most shows you've reviewed so far I've already watched, but I didn't really know much about Air until you reviewed that so I'm probably going to check it out at some point. Also: That's what YOU think.
  2. You know, idolmaster really does have a much more colorful style than K-ON! anyways. I actually enjoyed Nichijou moe more than K-ON! moe for that reason. Which reminds me I still need to watch Idolmaster. I would have by now if I didn't find the show through a picture of a certain trap... edit: wait, that's not the show I was thinking of. forget what I said. Still need to watch it.
  3. I giggle like a little japanese girl every time I watch that show. Next you'll be watching Yuru Yuri. Then Hidamari Sketch. Then you'll be watching Clannad again for all the wrong reasons. And then you'll have your own personal waifu. That's how it went for me at least. No big deal.
  4. Would I be able to make a heavily arranged/liberal version of the song? I'm free and would like to try this song out.
  5. Who said Rexy vs. BS in the last round? Because that pretty much backfired in all ways possible. Good job Gario! Can't wait to hear what you guys bring to the table this week : D
  6. Not sure if it's on tablet or not, but I got extended battery life and easy task killer help battery + keep my androids free from pointless programs in the background. If that sounds helpful I'd find that or a tablet equivelant. I guess that would depend on how much you'd use it off the charger, though.
  7. I'm not a big fan the kick. It's sounding a little bit to weak, imo. It also sounds panned which is weird. You should try centering the kick and the snare, if they're not, so they sound a bit more present. The synth also doesn't seem to be loud enough maybe? The chords might just be taking up too much room. I can't really hear much besides the chords, though. I'd fix that first. The parts where you're trying to arrange IMO don't flow that well with the song. The intro going into the source sounds fine. But at parts like :29 and 2:11 things could flow just a bit better. Also, I found myself kind of getting bored of the song.. I feel like a slower, more mellower bridge section would help this kind of song a lot. Maybe right after 2:06. Maybe others will agree with that. Fixing the mixing issues would be a great first step to making this sound good. The chords are up front and center while everything else is just pushed in the back.
  8. Ok, I worked on this and basically lowered the bass enough. I was actually having the same problems in my ears, but people kept saying the drums should be stronger. But I think I was completely mistaking loudness for strength, so yeah. It sounds a lot better now. I'm probably going to have to render this one more time to fix some piano chords, but other than that, it sounds good. I'll get more opinions and stuff. The bass just plays like that. It sounds out of tune whenever it's played by itself, but ok once it's played with the song (I think it's because higher frequenices are trying to harmonize on the synth.. I'll find a way to fix that because it is weird). It's a bass I use a LOT so my ears might have gotten used to it by now. Probably the next to last update before I submit this to the judges. I'm hoping to submit this late tonight, and finally work on some other stuff. : D https://www.box.com/s/9e6a7c6063bad34b6205 (not sure why I keep linking this whenever box always keeps the same link ) edit: oh yeah, and I think the track is a bit louder now. I'm scared to play this too loud on my headphones to tell, but it sounds easier to hear on my labtop speakers (which is unfortunately the only other thing I have to listen on..)
  9. Edit your OP and go advanced, you should be able to change the status on your own.
  10. I did tone down that bell a bit.. but I swear the weirdest thing happened. I was working on the song, and for some odd reason, all my effects and plugins were just deleted. What the heck? It happened while I was exporting the song.. all the drums are still there since they're FL Studio drums -- but the compression, reverb, soundfons, vsts. Everything just disappeared. I don't know what the heck happened, but I didn't have any other backups so I think this project just got screwed over majorly. Which really sucks since it was such a drum experimental track for me. dangit. I'll probably restart it at some point... but it's going to suck trying to get that initial sound back in. Jeeze. I'll keep all I have up as reference though. (It was updated a little bit I believe).
  11. Can't say much about the sub frequencies, but the bass sounded fine to me. It didn't necessarily stick out to me, but I've listened to a folk artist who applies bass just like this, so that my be why. I'll be honest, if the 2:25 clicks weren't so loud and upfront, I think that they would have sounded cool. Maybe That mistake obviously wasn't your intention but I've always loved little things like that where there's that sense of realness and atmosphere to a song. The aforementioned folk artist (Joseph Arthur is his name) also makes stuff very similar sounding to this. A lot of time there will be small mistakes in his song that he'll just leave in the final recording because well, it's atmosphere. Not like "Oh hey I played the wrong note" but more like "I plucked this note way to loud and it stood out". His music is a lot more oddball in the way it's produced, though. But it sounds good.. and that's all that really matters in the end. I honestly don't know if realness and atmosphere is what you go for in your songs, but I definitely like this one because of stuff like that. I know it's weird, but I've always hated how my music (at least now) sounds clear and clean. I'm really hoping to find a way to add rawness and oddball production choices into my music while still making it sound good. Don't want to make it sound like you made a lot of mistakes or anything; if good, clean production was what you're going for, you obviously did that. Or else it wouldn't have sounded good. It's just that I found myself hearing this sense of rawness in the song, too. Maybe it's just me, though. Jeeeze that was a whole lot. tl;dr i love yo face BS
  12. Just wanna drop in and say I love Touhou Tuesday! Fun thing to look forward to in the week. Thanks for hosting such a good idea of a radio show. :D

  13. Voted. Congrats on hitting 250. Good luck on getting the grant!
  14. I want to brag on Brandon's song really quick because I absolutely love it. Everything sounds clear and spread out at first, which is good for acoustic guitars. Sounds very pleasant to my ears. When the vocals come in, the background singing kind of crowds thing out. But at this point I'm more focused on the absolutely beautiful guitar arp you have going on there. Then the drums and bass come in, and I start to fall in love with this song. The contermelodies you wrote, the vocal melody, even the vocals them self are gorgeous. At 2:25 there's a little weird glitch going on there at least that what it sounds like to me. The wild west whistle coming in at 3:20 is good. Fits in well. Then the guitar and drum hits that come in after with the acoustic guitar solo hovering over the song is perfect. All coming back to the concluding chorus. I can't remember anything else though. It's not exactly professional sounding, but that's exactly why it's so good. The song just sounds real. It sounds.. natural. Beautiful : D. The use of good stereo panning and the right amount of reverb helps this out a lot. The clicking during the guitar solo in both ears especially sounds good. Like someones plucking at my ears. It's entrancing. It sounds like at any moment the song could just go out of control (I feel like I'm quoting someone there). Maybe others won't feel the same way I do about the song, or be as fanatic as I am. I've never really cared about production in terms of if it's studio quality and absolutely clear of mistakes - I just want it to sound good. And that's exactly what this does. In fact, to be completely honest, this is one of the two or three songs I've voted on because of the production. Both arrangements were good this round.
  15. Wow, BS. Your track is absolutely blowing me away.
  16. Ok ok, I forgot that you were writing the drums PH. Don't sue me. I completely spaced out and didn't see the name in the file.
  17. For whatever reason, I'm completely ok with this.
  18. well you're wrong because i have many friendships with moms of all ages, sizes, and colors. p.s. really good stuff on getting this guy mr. strader. that was a smart move.. because well, it worked. that's all that matters : D
  19. Got back into voting this round. Am beating myself up for missing last week. Amphibious, you've got some very awesome stuff here. Guitar + Saxophone? Heck yeah! It's very laid-back and enjoyable. Doesn't try to do anything too crazy, it's just 4 complete minutes of simple, yet good and sexy music. Exactly like I like it. and exactly why you get my vote. Rexy you made a very catchy remix. Your drum work has always stood out too me especially in this compo. Really diggin' your stuff. Chiptune works well with the sega soundbits. (which reminds me, great bass here). Good stuff from both of yah.
  20. You know, I was listening to this a little more, and I think it honestly might be that I just don't like the instrument all that much. But that's a good thing because that's just personal preference. The best way I can describe it is just sticks out to much when compared to all the other instruments. But I kept listening to your arrangement to figure out why I don't like it and I think that it's just me. If someone else happens to mention something, then try something, but I don't think you have to worry about it as is. In this type of piece I would assume the lead instrument should stick out, anyways. Guess those last two posts were pointless then, but do fix the bells panned right at 1:40
  21. It'd be good if someone else suggested something along with this. If a real instrument isn't working for me, I usually just cheeze it and replace it with a synth. It could work here, but that kind of recommendation imo is messing with your creativity in the piece. Maybe try layering it with a similar sounding instrument or flute? Then EQ whatever frequencies sound out of place and let the other instrument deal with those. That's what I would do personally.
  22. You've got a cool, unique style here. I just want to pop in to mention that at around 1:40, those bell like instruments (it might just be the piano) are getting a bit too bright and distracting. They're in the my right ear. Maybe EQ them or change the volume a bit. Also, nobody else mentioned this so I guess it's not a big deal, but I was never a fan of the choice of the oboe. Something about the instrument / mixing is bothering me, but I don't know what. All the other instruments sound cool, the oboe just sounds off to me. Not sure why. Probably not that big of a deal, though.
  23. Woah. This was a big surprise. Breakbeat electronica is a genre that's very hit or miss for me, and I'd like to congratulate you for pulling off an extremely awesome song here, DaMonz. The soloing is absolutely awesome, some of the best I've heard on this site. A staple of the genre (at least from all of what I've heard) being glitchy effects / drums are being used very well here. Also, I'm digging the soundscape and atmosphere of the song! That jump from the piano section back to the conclusion was awesome. Great focus on the dynamics in this song. Recommending this song to anyone reading. Again, great stuff!
  24. That is so freaking epic. Much love to whoever got that for you.
  25. If you haven't already, I'd get rid of some of the reverb in the bass. I don't think you necessarily have to cut below 30khz (edit: I could have sworn somebody mentioned something about cutting it below 30khz, but I guess not), just balance it out with the mix, so it's not putting a blanket over the whole mix like it's doing right now. Try to find a better piano sample and guitar sample while you're at it. Tweak the guitar if anything, but if you can't get it to sound good, maybe replace it with a synth? Or heck, even layer a synth over it, that might help to give it some character. The piano could also use some humanization. I'd hate to keep saying things, but I do think you have a good mind for music from what I'm hearing so far. Just need to work. When you're trying to do cymbal rolls during that piano solo at 4:04 it doesn't sound to good. I'm not sure if you're really going to get a good cymbal roll sample like you're wanting from FL Studios library, but look around. Something might work. I would also try having a pad play there or something, so it doesn't sound so awkward hearing a cymbal roll with only the piano. There's definitely a lot that can be done with this mix. I wouldn't stress yourself out over this one song too much. It's as Skrypnyk said, only doing more projects will get you better. But you'd be doing good to apply as much as we've said here to this project if possible and the next one you do. Like I said, you obviously have a good mind for music - just keep learning production and arrangement techniques and I think you'll be alright. P.S. I found myself liking the part towards the end. Try applying arrangement like that throughout the song. It was fun to listen to!
